The Gorgon Watches
"Recall. Do you believe this facility to hold any connection to the creators of W.3.N.D.I.Y?" Hebiru asked, half to gain additional relevant information and half to ensure the quiet wasn’t getting to anyone. To ensure they would not be detected before reaching the hidden supply bay Iphigenia had estimated the location of, their speed was slow and they’d been in this boat for over an hour. Were they to be discovered early their search might quite literally be dead in the water.
In truth Hebiru herself would likely have chosen a different approach had she believed it viable. Unfortunately the potential gains from this raid were too valuable to risk. If this theoretical research base truly existed, something Hebiru did not doubt, the contents may prove to be a crucial to solving her longstanding problem. Hebiru had tasted what it was like to have one’s emotions be unhindered during the calamitous events of Dream World and it had not made going back to normal any more pleasant. Quite the contrary. Many of the defenses she’d carefully built up over the years had been stripped from her in those days, making the wait for progress ever harder to bear.
A grim thought began to form in her mind. Perhaps that had been why she’d accepted Yoko’s request without question. In that instant, had she prioritized her own desires over the safety of her sister? Hebiru’s eyes narrowed as she tried to spot any irregularities in the side of the island they were slowly approaching. If that had truly been the reason it was one more secret she could never let anyone find out. She wondered whether Recall already knew. Hebiru wouldn’t put it past her. Few things escaped Iphigenia’s gaze.
If anything it was a consolation that if they were intercepted before reaching the isle Yoko and Iphigenia stood a good chance of survival. The former’s quirk was well suited to swimming to safety and the latter would be able to think her way out of the situation. It was only her own quirk that was ill-suited to surviving at sea, the lack of physical strength making swimming a near impossibility. An old classmate many years ago had once described her swimming style as ‘brick stroke’. How odd. Hebiru rarely reminisced on the past. She hoped that was not an omen of things to come.
As they finally reached the isle and silently sailed into an opening in the mountainside the feeling only intensified. The stillness within almost felt like an omen. Nought but empty crates laid within, awaiting pick up on the next supply run to come through. Depending on their actions today, it may never come.

"Perhaps there is," Hebiru allowed after a few seconds of silence. "And perhaps you can try again once you have healed. But." She made sure to emphasize that last word, uncharacteristically raising the volume of her speech for a single syllable. "Not alone. That is how you get yourself killed. You were lucky today but you of all people should know luck does not last and a single wrong move can mean death."
She paused for much longer then, both to let her words hang in the air and to give Junsuina some time to think. This most recent development was concerning in the extreme and it was becoming more and more clear to her that without harsher words the only result of Junsuina's efforts would be an early grave. Too harsh however and Hebiru doubted her words would be taken to heart. No, her PhD wasn't just a piece of paper. She'd make her way to her point slowly.
"Do you still have the prescription for that wrist band I recommended?" Hebiru asked gently, recalling their previous conversation on the subject.

"Are you feeling pain anywhere else? Dizziness or difficulty parsing my words?" Hebiru asked while briefly shining a light into each of Jun's eyes in turn. "Please lay straight on the bed," she calmly added while pressing a few buttons on the console attached to it. A soft hum resounded from below the mattress while the base of the side rail slid open. From within a rectangular steel bar roughly a handspan wide with a seam on the side and as long as the bed's width itself slid out. Once it had fully extended Hebiru unfolded it once more at a ninety degree angle revealing a strip of glass along the whole length of both bars. With another click she moved the whole contraption perpendicularly so the glass strip was hanging over the bed and the whole width of the matress was covered with straight line of light. A third rose from the other side of the bed, this one without a strip, and connected to the end of the horizontal bar for added stability.
Presently set at the base of the bed Hebiru made sure to offer Junsuina eye protection before activating the scanner so that it'd move across the entire length of the bed.
"Please put this on and try to stay as still as possible. It'll only take a minute."
While it couldn't provide the same accuracy as a full fledged CT scan any notable internal injuries would show up allowing Hebiru to stabilize any potential severe issues before they could get out of hand. Once the scan had finished and the machine learning algorithm in her computer was sorting through the data for a preliminary result Hebiru turned back to Jun.
"I believe I do not need to inform you how foolish it was to perform such experiments without supervision?"

"Brace yourself. On three. One, two-"
Before she got to three Hebiru applied the disinfectant spray. Pressing down on the nozzle Hebiru applied a quick coat over the entire injured area before placing it back down.
"Apologies. Tell me, when the experiment went wrong did you fall or stay on your feet?"
Either way was concerning. The former could hint at a head injury and the latter meant the potential hallucinations and confusion had a previously unknown quirk-related cause. Regardless of which possibility it was both that and the potential internal injuries took precedence over the external ones. Applying a temperature regulating gel to the burns and another spray to the open parts of wound, this time one that served to seal it and speed up regeneration, Hebiru took out bandages and began to wrap up the injury. Once this one was taken care of she could repeat the same process with Junsuina's hands. In her head Hebiru made checklist of things to bring up, check and treat. Cold logic determined her actions, each one made to maximize efficiency. With injuries such as these it was crucial that they were found and treated as soon as possible. There was no time to waste.

"Stay seated. Do not close your eyes. Keep talking." Hebiru elaborated and repeated. Coherent answers could wait until Jun's health was stabilized but if she lost consciousness things could get troublesome. At the student's words Hebiru's eyes went to the gems in question or more importantly the lack thereof.
That wasn't good.
While she couldn't recall Junsuina's quirk in full she'd read her file after the boat incident and subsequent recovery so she had a rough idea. Her quirk utilized a crystal as a power source, consuming it in some manner until it shattered. If she'd attempted to use her quirk without the power source it was likely the energy was drained from whatever other source was at hand, namely the user's biological energy. Given that doing so on a crystal broke down solid mass it was possible and in Hebiru's professional opinion even likely Junsuina was suffering from internal damage far more severe than she'd first expected.
With her tools arranged atop a wheeled medical cabinet as meticulously as possible in the short time she had Hebiru prepared to pull away the jacket to see what laid beneath. Regardless of other injuries stopping the bleeding was crucial right now.
"Jun. Mood Ring. I am going to remove this now, it will sting for a bit. Please tell me what happened as calmly as you can."

The Doctor is InAppendages burst out of the back of Hebiru's lab coat, lodging in between the tiles and sending her rocketing forward to catch Jun before she fell.
"What happened?" Hebiru asked while maneuvering her quirk-granted appendages to support their weight as she assisted Jun in walking towards a bed. All the while she'd make sure enough pressure was maintained on the wound.
"Don't let go yet. Keep up the pressure. I'll be right back. Do not close your eyes. Keep talking until I return. Do not stop talking."
Giving short, clear and concise commands Hebiru would grab her medical tools as quickly as she could before returning to Jun, ready to take care of whichever injuries she may have incurred.

Much like her physiology Yanai Hebiru's personality is akin to a pit of vipers. Her kindness is skin deep and serves only to hide the horrible truth beneath.
To the outside world Hebiru is a friendly and upstanding woman whose sole goal in life is to improve the lives of others. She's diligent and caring, always going the extra mile for her patients whether it be through ensuring they receive the best care possible or following up on them in private. Even outside of her job she's supportive of those she knows, assisting without being asked and seeing anything she does all the way through. Despite her busy schedule as a researcher she always puts those under her care first leading many to wonder when she finds the time to sleep.
As The Gorgon she acts in an analytic manner, her every action planned out in advance taking a wide variety of factors into account. A Pro Hero whose actions few could question The Gorgon always places the safety of innocents and protection of society over her own well being and the success of her mission alike. Even to her enemies she offers advice and a chance at redemption whenever possible, only resorting to violence when the alternative has either failed or would be too dangerous to attempt.
In truth however neither persona is genuine. Much like her body itself she's hollow, ever burdened with a gnawing feeling that something important is missing. To blend into society in spite of how alien she is internally Hebiru employs a series of masks, albeit calling it faces would be more accurate, for a mask implies it can be taken off. The two most commonly used ones are 'The Doctor' and 'The Gorgon' used for her civilian and hero identities respectively. Each has their own set of ingrained behavioral patterns, priorities and ways of interacting with the world that Hebiru sticks to as much as possible so that her facade would not be seen through. Not until she finally manages to feel what she has been feigning all along.
Her entire life she's spent chasing achievements, new discoveries and prestige to fill that hole yet nothing so far has succeeded. Even so she perseveres, knowing there must be a light at the end of the tunnel even if she has no idea how to get to it. A little feigned slip of tongue or a bit of prodding here or there are often enough to set people on a path that'll allow her to gain more information relevant to her fields of study, slowly allowing her to progress further and further. Until she reaches her goal she calculates her every move, feigning emotions she doesn't feel to ensure no one can see through her facade. For fear is an ever present companion to her, one of the few emotions she can feel in full.

Hebiru is relatively tall and slender, her line of work and more importantly her physiology causing her to have little in the way of muscles. Her hair is worn as a braid going down the front of body and she has two stylized snake tattoos, one on each arm. When in public she takes to wearing a knee length backless black dress with two stylized white arrows crossing over her waist. She complements this with a white lab coat she leaves open at the front.
When operating under official capacity as a hero Hebiru wears a hooded sleeveless black onesie that ends right above her ankles and a pair of spiraling bracelets. Additionally her hair is braided right over left instead of left over right to throw off anyone that might link her appearance to her civilian identity.

Even early in her childhood Hebiru's intelligence was noted as being far beyond the norm. While still in kindergarten she was oft praised for her ability to understand and learn things far beyond what was expected for her age range. The warm feeling she received from such praise is something she clung to and chased harder and harder when her quirk's manifestation gradually robbed her of her emotions.
Despite her efforts the warmth inside could not be maintained and with the dampening of her feelings the continual praise began to feel as hollow as her physical form. Even so she clung to what she once knew. The experience she could no longer recreate but forever wished to know again. Her very own internal White Moonlight.
She skipped grades in both grade school and middle school and found high school to be so unchallenging as to be boring. It is only when she went to a prestigious university to study medicine and psychology that she found something that could spark her interest. Perhaps caused by her own unique biology she delved entirely into this field of study, co-authoring and even authoring her own papers as she worked her way through her Bachelor's degrees, Master's degrees and PhDs.
She took to her studies with such an intensity that relying solely on her own research, slowed down as it was by the gears of bureaucracy, was insufficient for her and before long she found herself taking on a second identity as well, that of The Gorgon. Trying her best to keep her two identities separate she researched what she could within her civilian identity -often pushing boundaries and reaching heights few of her colleagues expected- while using her alias to collect data that would either be illegal, far too slow to gain through official methods or unethical whenever she came across it. An occurrence that wasn't all too uncommon given that she mainly targeted villains and organizations suspected of conducting illegal or immoral research and experiments.
The more she learned the more it became clear to her that her quirk was the cause of the majority of the problems she experienced and studying mundane medicine, even enhanced by her 'other' means as it was, would not lead her to the solution she so desperately needed.
So it is that she turned towards quirkology in addition to her previous fields of study, particularly the physiological changes caused by Mutation or Transformation type quirks. Unable to imagine any place better for her continued research than one where a large amount of people growing into their quirks and advancing their understanding and usage thereof gather Yanai Hebiru accepted a job as UAU's school nurse. Her work ethic and devotion to the job allows her no less than complete support for any and all that would seek her assistance, slowly increasing her own understanding of how quirks affect both one's mental and physical state as she interacts with the students of UAU.
And as ever should she find her progress too slow, The Gorgon will be acting behind the scenes to secure the data she requires.

It is only between the ages of four and six that her quirk began to manifest and her body was slowly changed from the inside out. Over the course of those two years it hollowed out, her insides -organs, veins, bones, muscles and everything else- replaced entirely by slithering, snake-like biological structures. Her emotions receded and her mind changed, its chemistry no longer tied to that of a normal brain. Due to no longer possessing vital organs Hebiru is extremely hardy and needs to lose either half her body or be decapitated in order to be put down for good. The reason severing her head is lethal despite the fact that no brain dwells within is morphological and Yanai Hebiru herself is entirely unaware of this weak point. Should a non-lethal amount of her body be severed or otherwise destroyed Hebiru can over the course of a day redistribute her mass to appear whole again and function once more, albeit with greatly reduced efficiency.
Over time she's discovered she can manifest these serpentine structures as external appendages by consciously using her quirk to compress them into thin, black arrows with razor sharp edges. The easiest place to externalize them from and the one that allows her the most control is her lower back. The quantity she can manifest depends on the length and breadth of the limbs she decides to manifest.

Unlike when they are within their 'normal' container Hebiru's appendages do not hold the same instinctive muscle memory normal limbs do. For any motions with more complexity than 'Move straight' Hebiru needs to either consciously control them or link them to pre-existing muscle memory through the use of intricate movements. As such her attacks tend to be choreographed during the time in between her manifesting the appendages she intends to use and the attack moving towards the enemy.
Manipulating her appendages outside of her body is akin to moving muscles one is unused to relying on and using a large amount of them causes her aches and exhaustion similar to a full workout. As such she is only able to use her abilities for minutes at a time before being rendered almost immobile by fatigue. Due to her internal structure lacking the strength of a normal human musculature Yanai Hebiru is incapable of causing any form of significant blunt trauma with her 'external shell' nor is she capable of lifting anything heavier than three kilograms. While Hebiru is capable of reshuffling mass to have her 'shell' maintain or regain its outwards appearance should it be damaged actual regeneration happens at the same pace anyone else could regain mass. Depending on the severity of the damage she can require up to three months to regain full functionality.

Scylla Awakens
Her gaze first settled upon the door hurtling her way. Redirecting several of the forward facing appendages its way to send it back his way she made sure to reduce the force behind them once the door's momentum had been inverted. It wouldn't do for the impact with Jouma to cause the appendages to pierce through and cause damage more severe than she'd been intending. Due to the redirection of part of her attack the remaining strikes aimed Ylva's way pierced through the ice dome but missed the figure within leaving her unharmed, much like the third figure her gaze flicked to.
Too much had been going on to focus on everyone before her attacks arrived and her attention only turned towards Elijah as the strikes were beginning to land. Luckily he had managed to divert most of her appendages by himself other than the one piercing through his prosthetic arm. She didn't bother to redirect the ones he deflected, her goal here wasn't to cause harm after all. With three accounted for that left only one more. Now where was he?
With her attacks having reached their targets and a brief lull appearing in the battle Hebiru looked to both of her sides to check for any sign of something red. Failing to see anything she began to withdraw several of the appendages within her line of sight that had missed while extending the ones on her lower back that were freezing further and further up. With some of her range of motion restored she began to turn around to check why Michael was uncharacteristically abse-
"Gorgon! Clear your six now!"
Hearing her colleague's rushed words Hebiru didn't even hesitate to pull back all appendages behind her as fast as she could. Given that Yuki Onna even got her operational name wrong it was clearly urgent. So much of her focus went into the next moment that she forgot to feign an expression of surprise, her eyes failing to widen leaving her face looking uncannily expressionless.
She wasn't going to make it in time.
Since a clean solution was out of reach Hebiru prioritized preventing long-term injuries over preventing harm entirely. An arm motion and a flick of her wrist caused several of the arrowheads to tilt to the side, cutting with their edges instead of piercing all the way through with the point. They still bit deep when Michael expanded into them but no longer would they risk causing lethal damage.
The crash combined with the airbag maneuver forced Scylla to make the appendages aiming down and to the sides more malleable to minimize damage, bending under the impact so they did not break. It caused the two of them to sway forward as Hebiru struggled to maintain their position. Something that was made all the harder when a layer of ice locked them both in place, restricting her range of motion and forcing her to strain her external appendages lest they crash to the ground. The earbuds everyone had on crackled to life the moment the frost settled.
"Team F, cease combat. Congratulations on your successful capture," Mai spoke through the mic before letting out a relieved sigh once she let go of the push-to-talk button. With another push she signaled the support and medical teams to head for the area of combat. With a smile she looked through the screens showing the scene of their battle. It had all turned out well. Truly, the current roster of students may just be the most promising one UAU had seen in a while.

“Take a guess,” she responded with a strained smile. The kind that sought desperately to find levity in circumstances where there was none. Her gaze moved with reluctant slowness to the next speaker.
"Not since the accident."
There was the merest hint of humor in her voice, as if she were referencing an in-joke none of the other people in this room were part of. Her eyes briefly gained a bit of a sheen before she blinked it away.
“I’m guessing you all already knew then,” she continued with a glance at Kei. “Must’ve seen all the medical bills. Rehabilitation is a bitch.”
A rueful smile crossed her features as she let her head drop and gazed up at the ceiling.
“Not that I need to worry about that anymore. I'm pretty screwed huh,” she concluded with a snerk like a sputtering engine. It died down just the same, replaced by the hollow sigh of something giving out as she turned to face the group once more. "But you aren't here to hear me whine, are you? I sure hope not. We don't have the time for that, do we?"

Scylla Awakens
The moment of hesitation cost her.
Right before gravity could reassert itself Michael's attack hit home with full force, taking her legs out from under her and sending her careening through the air.
Had Hebiru had lungs the impact would've driven the air right out of them. As a teacher their combined efforts made her proud and as their opponent she felt first hand how effective it was.
As a mock villain however she could not let herself be bested like this. Certainly, she was out position, cut off from escape and hemmed in from all sides. What she was not out of however was means to fight back. Sending several short arrow-tipped appendages out through her face in order to clear the ice and restore her vision she looked upon the scene below her as she tumbled through the air.
"You believe yourself to be the shining light in the dark? Fools! Allow me to enlighten you!"
With Elijah covering the ground in foam, Jouma charging in her direction, Michael being able to come in for another hit from any direction and Ylva safe within her dome the odds were heavily stacked against her. That was a mistake on their part. A villain with no options reacted like a cornered animal, lashing out with all they had until they either burned out or their enemies were reduced to ashes. To put one in a situation like this without locking them down in full was ill-advised. It was a lesson Hebiru intended to ingrain in them the hard way. Spreading her arms wide she continued.
"I now permit you to gaze into the sun!"
Towards all directions thin arrow-tipped appendages shot out of her in straight lines, leaving plenty of gaps in between but covering a full three hundred and sixty degrees. Hebiru made sure they wouldn't be lethal, focusing her senses to the fullest to angle her attacks away from anything vital should they made contact with any of the students but did not hold back in any other way. The villain Scylla's last ditch maneuver would strike with enough force to pierce an inch deep into the concrete floor and metal containers alike. It would root her in place and make her easy to capture but with a moment of carelessness such a thing would come at a high price.

TL;DR:
-The wombo combo works! With Elijah's foam threatening to dislodge Scylla she tries to pull them back inside her to re-anchor herself in a different direction. Her attempts are hindered by the frost covering the ends of several of them causing her to be wholly unsupported as Michael's attack hits her legs and sends her careening through the air.
-Jouma's charge causes most of the mechanical tentacles to focus on him allowing Ylva to seal off the escape route.
-An animal is at its most dangerous when cornered. Striking out in all directions Scylla goes full 'no-holds barred' with a large scale hedgehog maneuver, something that'll root her in place and leave her easy to capture should anyone still be in a good enough state to do so.
-The final round is on, finish the job y'all!

The Doctor is InThe soft beeping of monitors provided a stark contrast to the dour demeanor of the police officers posted on every corner of the floor. Dream World had led to many people ending up in the hospital and a fair few of them had to be kept separate from the other patients. The person laying in the room behind Hebiru was one such individual, one most of the students in front of her were quite familiar with.
"Miss Denchi has agreed to the visit. You will have ten minutes," Hebiru explained. Even that had been difficult to arrange. Were they not all UAU students there was very little chance the officers would risk letting anyone on the floor without serious oversight. "But allow me to warn you in advance. I am certain it will not be necessary but should anything go wrong I will intervene immediately and end the conversation early. Note that offenses will reflect on your school record."
With her piece said Hebiru waited a moment so the four students in front of her could take her words in before she opened the door and stepped through.
A soft breeze blew in through the window causing the white curtains to billow inwards. The IV connected to Ageru's arm occasionally dripped and a heart monitor by her side beeped at a steady rhythm, one that sped up slightly when the door opened. Atop the room's bed laid the woman in question, a handcuff attached to its railing ensuring she'd stay where she laid. Her black bob cut obscured parts of her face as her head turned to face the new entrants with a hollow look in her eyes. Of the energy she'd displayed when last she crossed paths with UAU students naught remained.

Scylla AwakensScylla took a single theatrical step forward, threatening to plunge to her doom until the appendages beneath her dress shot down and anchored her to the ground. Her second and third steps made it look like she was walking down on an invisible staircase until she stopped in place half a meter in front of the stacked containers. With a grin so wide it looked like a crescent that under the present lighting seemed to stretch from ear to ear she leaned forward, her eyes crinkling into an expression of mock amusement. A pointed tendril struck out of her mouth and cut back and forth in front of her face, clearing as much of the ice covering her mouth as possible to allow her to breath.
As Michael shot towards her Scylla spread her arms as if to welcome him into a hug, the motion angling half a dozen appendages into a semi-circle with the point aimed towards him.
"Accept the ocean's embrace," she cooed while all six limbs shot towards him, her voice seeming to resound from all around the room. Each of the six threatened to impale Michael should he fail to stop or avoid them. Hebiru would not follow through with the motion of course but the threat was there.
At the same time she pulled the appendages Ylva had frozen behind her to prevent them from being shattered, her focus spread too thin to fully comprehend whether the frost continued to creep upward or not. The majority of the mechanical tentacles struck at Jouma and Ylva from all sides. Some stabbed, others slashed and even more threatened to slam down on them from all side. A few had kept slamming down on the ground in random places ever since Elijah sank into it.
Battle was a chaotic affair, one where hours worth of events happened in seconds, and this simulation proved no different. Without the additional personnel controlling the mechanical tentacles there would have been no way for Hebiru to keep track of all the students at once, especially not with her eyes freezing over, a sensation that caused more discomfort than she'd expected it to. Moreso, without the inside information she possessed there was only a small chance a villain would be able to discern Elijah's full capabilities and as such she'd left her back unguarded. Even so Scylla tensed for the blow and prepared a tendril to lash out in counter should he attack her. Cheating? Perhaps. But villains did not play fair.

-Hebiru welcomes Michael with open arms and half a dozen knife-tipped appendages shooting straight towards him.
-The appendages frozen by Ylva get withdrawn behind her to prevent them from being shattered, her focus too split to fully realize whether or not the frost is still spreading, especially with her being forced to constantly clear the ice forming around her head so it doesn't cut off her airway.
-The majority of the mechanical tentacles all around start slicing, dicing, spearing and smashing at Ylva and Jouma while a few hit the ground at random in case Elijah pops back up.
-Scylla leaves her back open for the sake of playing fair. As Scylla is presently a villain however she also prepares a nasty counterattack aimed to slap Elijah away should he go for the attack (NOTE: counter would only occur after the successful attack and only if the capability to counter is still there at the time)
