He was a flesh and blood rail shot ripping through the battle bot. Emerald sparks crackled around Farrin, immediacy and impatience apparent. The sooner he wrapped up this fight, the sooner he could check on Josephine and either back her up or watch her maneuver around a now-weakened enemy. UAU had higher difficulty villain bots, made from tougher materials and possessing a stronger armament, but knowing only of the novice facade Jo wore, he opted for weaker machines, which did feel a little like bullying to him.
"Oi, if they possessed some sort o' sentience, artificially developed or otherwise, yuh' might have a leg ta' stand on," he started, leaping out of the mess he made of the bot's leg and onto its back. "But," he grunted, driving his fist down into the robot's head in a similar fashion to the last bot he took out. "That's no' the case. So donja go makin' accusations that've no' basis 'ere."
Farrin tore the bot's inner circuitry apart, then leaped off to the side as it collapsed. Simple enough. Dust plumed upward and outward, riding a wave of smoke and framed by sparks that shot out of the machine. The urban canvas lacked any stroke of danger for the moment, so Farrin allowed himself to look Josephine's way only to find... she did it. She had taken one of the bots out.
"Ayyeee, deadly job there, Jo, yuh' doin' okay?" He shouted, only just catching a glimpse of her uniform below the bot. "Need help gettin' the t'ing off o' yuh?"
Farrin crossed the distance, ready to pry the machine upward to give his friend some wiggle room. A resounding thud followed by a distinct crunch sounded from behind him. Farrin spun. Two more machines. They leaped from the building tops to the street below, then charged. Farrin grabbed the fallen bot, lifted it, and tossed it over, freeing Josephine from below.
"C'mon then, we're no' done yet."

Farrin turned with Freja's call. The gladiator was charging. The bullets were flying. This was the problem with imprecise future sight, his danger sense. He knew when danger was coming but rarely saw its exact nature. Which threat was the greater? The bullets or the blade?
An emerald field crackled alive to Farrin's left. The bullets were ensnared by his temporal trap and slowed to a crawl. The time-turner's attention shifted back to the gladiator. Even in a world so slow in Farrin's eyes, the distance had been closed. The blade cut air and stabbed in Farrin's direction. He couldn't evade. Not entirely.
Farrin sidestepped, but the distance wasn't enough. The blade cut through the reinforced layers of his hero outfit and jabbed into his shoulder. Pain blossomed like a firestorm brewing in Farrin's left side. He bared grit teeth, biting back a scream. This wasn't some normal sword forged with regular materials. Ana and Kei's work was immaculate. Yet, the gladiator's sword cut straight through. Though he was spared any injury that might take the arm.
"Eat shite, yuh' two-bit gob!" Farrin shouted, his left arm rising from the elbow and latching onto the gladiator's gauntlet.
Farrin threw his right fist up and into the side of the gladiator's face. Emerald lightning crackled around the time-turner's arm as his jab slammed hard into the villain, sending the man soaring into Freja and the other woman's direction. Farrin watched as he dropped onto the ground in a roll that deposited the heavier villain just behind his ally. They were together now. Time to test a theory. Would the gladiator's propellor point toward his own ally? If so, Freja and Farrin might have a few seconds to focus on the woman she was fighting. All well and good, but blood was seeping out from Farrin's wound and soaking into his outfit. His left arm was not going to move like it should. That... would be problematic.

If the ride were in disrepair, an accident would have likely already occurred. If anything did go wrong, well, Farrin could probably save most of the people via temporal tomfoolery. Really, Farrin just didn't like the gut-wrenching weight that bounced about in his gut when he was acted on by outside forces and speed.
Still, his resistance was all for the bit. "Haunted by guilt? Need I remind yuh' this was all yer' idea," he said just before they began to rise. Well, here it went. They would inch up to the top of the drop tower, and then Farrin was quite liable to lose whatever contents occupied his stomach, which, again, wasn't much considering he hadn't eaten, but it still wouldn't be a pleasant experience.
Farrin shut his eyes, listening for the congealed melody that spindled together from below. There was a thrum, a weaving of laughter, cheer, and, yes, the music too. That much was true. Maybe it wasn't all bad up here. But they wouldn't be staying up this high for long.
As if tethered to the thought, the machine dropped them. "Sonova feckin' gobshitin' arsehole," he shouted. Farrin's hair fought to catch up with his head as the wind whipped it upwards. "How on earth do yuh' enjoy this?" He shouted as the ride snapped back upward into the air before dropping them again.
A minute or so of bouncing up and down, and finally, the drops would slow, their seats slowly descending toward the earth. Farrin bit his mouth shut, battling back the urge to vomit. It was a close call, but he was winning. For now.

"Fer one, yuh' can't be racist against robots. That's no' a race! Two, they're no' sentient!" Farrin bounced in place twice, then sprung forward toward the damaged scorpion-bot he was engaged with. With his newfound, time-turned strength, Farrin's fist was a high-pressure water jet tearing through... well almost anything. The reinforced steel used to build the bots offered resistance initially, but nothing that held up for long.
The tail retracted, folding in on itself after the last strike. A second tail whipped around, then stabbed down, crushing concrete and spewing debris. It all moved in slow motion to Farrin. He sidestepped the tail strike. The shrapnel, however, pelted his sides. Little flares of pain bubbled where each stone hit him, but he didn't slow. Farrin shot ahead and drove his fist into the machine's face like a spike.
"Third, they're no' even alive! They're programmin' behind metal n' wires," Farrin said, yanking his fist back.
The other scorpion-looking bot was already charging. But with seconds passing like minutes in his eyes, there was plenty of time still. Jo hadn't been able to bypass her own enemy's defenses yet. Maybe he could give her a hand without doing all the work?
Farrin landed atop the ruined bot, latched onto the edge of its tail, and pulled. The tip of the tail tore free. With a spin, he threw the tail like a spear, its edge ripping through the leg of Josephine's opponent. That might give her an opening. At the worst, her enemy would be slowed. Now, back to his own target.

Farrin stood at the ready, fists held high and ready to go at the heart of Grounds Beta. A little off-time he convinced his friend, Jo, to use in practice. Josephine was among his closest friends around campus at this point, but the lass hadn't been seeing her quirk improve quite as fast as their peers. Given that the time-turner remained unaware of her identity as the Peacekeeper, he offered (and pushed) and for her to let them train together, so here the duo were. Taking shots at battle bots.
The machines weren't unlike those used for some of the students' entrance exams. A little tougher but otherwise nearly indistinct. He wasn't sure what sort of test Josephine had gone through, but it was likely she utilized stealth and acquired points through rescue tactics rather than battle, given the quirk display she gave him when she first arrived. So, where better to start this process than the basics?
Farrin's fist tore through the "knee" joint of the closest scorpion-looking machine. He pulled, ripping through metal shards and wiring to dislodge his hand. With an odd pop, it came free. He brought the cannon back up, ready to fire and finish the bot off, but the bot's massive tail stabbed down at the time-turner, forcing him to hop back three steps.
"Yuh' holdin up okay o'er there?" He shouted behind him.
He hadn't caught Josephine's exact circumstances so far, but he was keeping two bots distracted, leaving only one to her for now. A few more would arrive soon to reinforce the villain bots they first encountered, but it would be another minute at the least. If she needed help, he could kick up his chronokinesis a level and tear through the robotic trio, but hopefully, she handled things herself over there.

Scrounging up money was difficult while homeless, doubly for a moral pickpocket. Couldn't steal from other poor folks, couldn't take much from anyone hustling just to make it through the month. Payday only came when he found some rich, snobby sucker who deserved it. So, clipping a dollar or two per his usual rounds meant sticking to dollar-slice pizza. He couldn't manage three times daily in his younger, less experienced years, but he got by. Now he was here, stuffing himself on Above & Beyond's dime since they were fronting him the money. Aside from Nana, Sada, and Kenta, they were the closest he had to family. He would probably have to pick up some part time work soon, though. Make it easier on the hero agency.
"That's New York fer' yuh," he said.
Many were surprised when he spoke of his upbringing in the States, probably due to his accent. He got that from his parents, but he was mostly raised in the Big Apple. It was home more than any and all but a few select people.
"Heh, yuh' mean Doctor Who," he answered, recalling the old sci-fi show.
Meika had earned herself a few extra points in his book, too, weighing his Irish heritage as something that made him even cooler than the ol' Doctor. That said, hacking his quirk and seeing how it might mess up was not high on his 'to-do' list, not when he was liable to sift if these little hacks touched on his quirk's weaknesses.
"Eh, maybe no' today. Can't say I'm the biggest fan o' seein' me quirk go haywire or messin' wit' some other issues that can come o' time fuckery," he chuckled a bit at the end. "It's messy business when me' quirk does go outta whack."
They were cutting down the hill rather fast. The two passed wooded suburbs that surrounded the school and slowly approached the city proper. UAU was fairly isolated. Not entirely, but it sat atop a wooded hill along the aforementioned suburbs beyond the city's heart. It was likely easier to ensure security that way. Some of his peers hated the distance from the city, but Farrin was a big fan of walking. Running was his life. Hopefully, Meika didn't mind the trek.
"So, how're yuh' feelin 'bout the school so far? Yer new, right? Can't say I've seen yuh 'round before," He started. Same thoughts crossed his mind again, there were plenty of people Farrin didn't know but he at least recognized many as fellow students. Not all, though, so there was a fair chance he was entirely wrong.

What were only supposed to be practice patrols and a few evening outings off campus had quite often turned into self-imposed obligations to do good where he could. A few encounters with Ouroboros, fending off Freja's spiders, and battling villainy alongside the actual vigilante, Peacekeeper, had all gone unnoticed thus far. Plenty of effort went into covering for his activities, but he knew that, ultimately, he had been lucky.
"I hear yuh'," he answered, admitting to nothing.
It wasn't only to Farrin's benefit but to Jun's as well. He had no intention of dragging her into his mess, but if he was caught and, for whatever reason, UAU approached her with questions, she had deniability. So far, though, if pressured, he could fall on old faithful and claim self-defense. It was true in the cases of Ouroboros and the Spiders. Just not for some of the scraps he found himself in.
"Yup, I've been waitin on any PLE announcements. I plan on signin up the moment it happens," he replied to her last suggestion. "Preciate it, though. Have a good workout," he would finally offer as he turned about and left Jun to her training.
Part of him still cursed that she wasn't taking on a bare-knuckled boxing form, but Jun seemed to only ever do what Jun wanted to do. So, Farrin made for the training facility to grab a few dummies for his own training as originally intended. Hopefully, the PLEs would be an option, preferably sooner rather than later.

The last thing Farrin wanted was to start at the deep end, but if that's where Jo wanted to start, that's where they were going to start. It didn't matter how often he had rope climbed... or tussled with villainy, though. The very reason Jo found it entertaining was the same reason Farrin hated it. He wasn't under his own power. Trusting others, even machines, to manage his movement for him - or really manage him at all - was a big no no.
"Ehh, alright, alright. But if this feckin' tower turns out ta' be some rickety, banjaxed bullshite that tries ta' kill us, I'm blamin' you," he said, starting toward the drop tower.
The wait wasn't long at all. Again, Farrin was thankful he hadn't had anything to eat yet. The after-effect would certainly not be a pretty picture. But, before long, the duo would hit the front of the line, the gate would open, and they would be left to take their seats on the death tower.
"Feckin bullshite," he muttered to himself, his stomach absolutely sinking into a pit.
Given Farrin's luck recently, the locks on his brace were liable to break and send the boy flying through the air, or drop him hard to the ground. Either way, he would be absolutely fucked. Well, not with his quirk. He could slow himself down mid-air, of course, but it still wouldn't be fun flying around like that.
"Yuh' know what. If I die 'ere, I'm hauntin' yuh' fer the rest o' yer days," he said to Jo as one of the ride operators checked the braces of each seat.

He wasn't ignoring Meika; he was just doing some simple math in his head. "Where I'm from, yuh' can get a solid slice fer' a hundred yen," he would finally respond. That was the rough conversion rate, right? Dollars to yen? You're just supposed to add two zeroes, roughly. It was like counting pennies.
A dollar slice from the city was a beautiful thing. Here, well, the pizza in most spots didn't quite live up to the New York standard, but there were a few decent places, at least. The particular spot they were going to now did not rank among those decent places, but if the little devil at his side wanted cheap pizza, well, they would go for cheap pizza. It wasn't his money being used.
As they passed the gate, the time-turner's attention fell to Meika's phone. Deadbeat dad? He knew something of that. His father was currently rotting away in prison, as he deserved. The thought didn't last long; Farrin's sanguine stare was locked onto the glitched-out and worbling screen. That was certainly interesting.
"N' yuh' can do this ta' people yuh said? What happen ta' 'em if yuh do?"
People weren't technology. Did she make them feel sick or just mess with their quirk since she related that to their tech? Either way, it was certainly useful. A disoriented opponent made was an easy opponent. Well, easier, at least. And now, as was customary, it was his turn to spill the beans. Some beans. Not all the beans.
"I can manipulate time ta' a degree. Can speed things up n' slow 'em down," he offered, removing a five yen piece from his pocket.
Farrin would pause as they reached the top of the hill that would see them descend into the city. There, he flipped the coin into the air. His eyes would take on a golden glow, features like that of a clock dial. Next, an emerald-tinted field would wrap around the coin, which then slowed to a crawl in mid-air.

Proper form, and you were working plenty of muscle groups. "Sounds good ta' me," he replied. "Can't go wrong wit' a proper run. People 'ere underestimate how much good it can do" There were enough students on the track usually, but there were still more that denied themselves the basics all bodies required. Many focused solely on developing their quirks. A massive blunder.
Jun had quite clearly not denied herself much in the way of training. Disagree with her fighting for as he did, she was still working on something she considered a weak point. What's more, she was perceptive. But Farrin wasn't without tact.
"Oh, I'm quite aware o' its illegality," he answered.
He didn't take the conversation any further. He hadn't lied. He didn't delve any deeper into his encounters with the agents of Ouroboros. If she pushed the matter further, well, he had plausibility deniability in spades. Farrin actually wasn't a fan of playing vigilante. He signed up to be a hero, but how could he look in the mirror and call himself a hero if he didn't do all he could to keep people safe? His father killed many people when he turned to villainy, he hurt families that could never be made hole. Farrin would not let that happen. Everyone who left after breakfast would make it home to sit at the dinner table. That was his doctrine. And he intended to see it through.

No quirk meant no speed. The item crowning his inventory wasn't of much use in this simulation. And now he, the slowest member of the team, was losing progress toward the door. His greatest contributions had come in the form of early cover via his gas grenades and the tunnel. Discounting those instances, his fatigued legs made him more of a liability than an asset. But! He was moving fast now. Really fast. He was flying through the air, straight toward the worm. It was entangled and disoriented—optimal conditions for unconventional warfare.
"Lookie 'ere yuh' two-bit gobshite," he shouted, entirely aware he was insulting a giant toy.
Farrin's hair whipped about as he closed the distance and threw his fist forward. He wasn't exactly sure where the others were, but if he could knock the oversized worm down, they could focus on bypassing the spring flooring and make for the exit. So, Farrin did what he did best: punched things really hard. Or at least he tried to. Either the shot would connect, or he was liable to launch right past the snake if it moved its oversized head too much and smack into the ceiling or some such. Whether the attack landed or otherwise, he would plummet toward the ground afterward.
Without his quirk, Farrin couldn't easily correct his fall. So, he crashed hard on his left arm and did his best to force his momentum into a roll. Even tapered off, the force of the crash saw pain stretch out his left side. With grit teeth, he would pick himself up and amble back toward the exit, where he was met with Jun.
"You could jump n' use the staff on descent ta' push yuh' back up n' give yuh' more airtime, maybe leap right over," he offered with a grunt, his right arm clutching his left.
It wasn't broken, but something wasn't right. Out of place maybe? He hadn't been able to land properly. Even a souped-up hero outfit, especially one fairly damaged by the earlier flames and rubber rounds, couldn't absorb the force of the fall entirely. He could try playing the instrument one-handed but would need a large, heavy tunnel to ensure its weight could resist the upward thrust of the tile traps. If not, it was liable to be launched back as he had.
"Probably the safest way ta' see yuh' outta 'ere," he continued, then took a few steps aside. "Dun worry 'bout me. I'll get across."
He wasn't so sure about that, but Farrin was no quitter. He gave his left arm a whirl. It hurt a lot, but it wasn't unresponsive. So, he tapped through the menu and selected the tuba again. " 'ere we go." He blew into the instrument, holding the note as long as possible to grow the tunnel out as much as possible. The more weight, the better. Maybe the springs wouldn't have enough force to launch the thing. If it did work, he would crawl through to the other side, toward the exit doors.
tldr: uses the upward momentum from the spring trap to try turning about and punching the big worm. Farrin then falls and hurts his left arm but makes for the exit. He suggests Jun use her staff to launch herself over the tiles, then uses the tuba again in hopes he can create a tunnel large and heavy enough not to be blown back by the tile traps. If it works, he'll use the tunnel to cross toward the exit.

Justify it with a response? Okay, maybe a short one. "Can't wait ta' hear yer opinion on birds." It was a reference to age-old meme culture, a satirical conspiracy theory that posed birds themselves were government-made drones. Ridiculous.
Now pizza, on the other hand, was a serious matter. Farrin may have been born in Ireland, but he was raised in New York, and New Yorkers took their pizza quite seriously.
"Well, I'm no' one ta' turn down free pizza, but I must warn yuh' the pizza 'ere isn't all that great, especially the cheap stuff."
Farrin turned about and made for the door. He was still in training wear, but that meant nothing. Tokyo was wound tight during the day, but at night it was painted in the same shade of bizarre as every other big city that dotted the earth. He would hardly be the odd man out among the crowds out there. Even if UAU was positioned near the outskirts of the city.
"C'mon then," he waved for Meika to follow.
Back out the doors, he was immediately met with a cool breeze. The wind whisked away the few remaining beads of sweat from his earlier training. "N' yeah, me' bet is on food poisonin," he responded. Mama O'Rourke would have whooped Farrin's ass for eating junk food on a weekday had she been alive. Onto brighter things.
"So, uh, guessin' yuv' a mutation quirk courtesy o' the tail n' horns. Anythin' else come wit' all that?" He asked, making some conversation as they approached the campus gate.

Shot one was how confident Jo was in trusting the rides. He could never. The mention of significant others was the double tap. He hadn't heard from Sada for a bit now. But what was he to do? A promise was a promise, and rather than go check on her every other minute, he promised to focus on his studies at UAU. Maybe she'd even appreciate his taking time away from it for a bit, though. No way to tell. At least there was a carnival or whatever they wished to call it to distract him.
"Fried food, sure," even if his mama would've whooped his butt for overindulging had she been alive, "rides? Ehhh, I prefer havin me feet planted firmly on the ground."
Weights, though, that would have been an idea. Strongman competition or some sort. That would have been right up his alley. And, though few, including Jo might have guessed, yes, Farrin did enjoy gaming. His dorm room was fairly spartan. Bed, furniture to hold his clothes, weights... and a lone video game console hooked up to his tv. He didn't partake often; most of his free time was allocated to training, but he tried to when the opportunity presented itself.
"Fine, fine, fine," he said, starting down the path toward the rides.
Hopefully, there were at least a few games like the High Strike or Boxer Machine. Something he could enjoy without trusting his fate to a rickety old track or some such. When they arrived at the expanse of rides, Farrin's eyes ran from the rollercoaster to the drop tower. There his stomach went again. Ugh. Good thing they didn't eat first.
