Had that been his goal he may have attended the demonstrations that took place a few weeks prior. No, instead, while some students were showing off their abilities - or otherwise eating cheesesteaks - he was training. Perhaps it was this Jun's place standing among the second years that permitted her to look down on him as if he were wholly inexperienced?
"I think yer' gettin' hung up on the particulars," he said, circling his last position at the base of the spire, before preparing to continue his training, "Whether it's actually a giant glowin' spot, some pinpoint weakness, or e'en a behavior ta' exploit, the point is not e'ery enemy allow yuh' the time ta' make those observations or even possess such flaws. I'd rather not rely on facin' an incompetent enemy. Prepare fer' the worst case scenario n' I'll always be ready. Hope fer' the best, sure, but prepare fer' the worst."
That's why battering boulders was worth the growing pain in his fist. The pain would pass, and his hand could be healed if needed, but the learning of and, hopefully, eventual mastery of this technique would be worth all of villainy's weight in gold. The technique, however, required that certain something he was lacking at the moment.
"N' I'm glad fer yuh' that yer quirk can topple spires o' stone, but not e'erybody's quirks work the same. The precision I need isn't in the end result, it's what's required ta' achieve that end via me' quirk."
She was probably right in the advice she'd given Emilia though. He had Jun that. If anything, that was his inner American talking. Out west, heroics could be quite a bit more violent. His first instinct was to give her Herculean's little trick, but Jun's suggestion would be far less damaging. At least the seeds of potential options had been planted for Emilia to grow.
Farrin drew his right fist back, he shut his time-dial eyes again, focusing on the micro-fields he needed to form. Then threw his fist forward. The back of the brain began to burn. He was here. Farrin's fist connected, microscopic fields of intense temporal acceleration and deceleration simultaneously formed, shredding the insides of the boulder as Farrin's fist connected. The physical impact landed harder than even he had intended, a spiderweb of cracks raced up the spire as the top began to tumble.
Though the spire began to collapse, Farrin backed up and looked over to find Leo. The lad's very presence seared itself in Farrin's brain. It had thrown him off just a smidge as he threw that punch. Before the dust settled, Farrin took his place at the base of the spire again and readied the next shot.

As much as he wanted to go another round, there was the distinct possibility his left arm was broken. And with a pride of Leonid Lions in his sights, there was no telling whether or not he would even take swings at the right one. He may have lost, but time was still on his side. It was only week one and come close to toppling the tower of beastly muscle that was a veteran hero.
"Go that hard?" He started, "yer lucky I was takin' easy on yuh', teach." The words rode a chuckle through the following fit of coughs. Bruised and bloodied, his sense of humor remained intact.
Even Barty would be proud of the results. Four years of training between Above & Beyond and Hero Prep, and here was the proof it meant something. He couldn't tell Sada though. Farrin was strong, but a vengeful Sada was downright frightening. Even ol' Leonid wouldn't stand a chance. Hell hath no fury like a Sada pissed the feck' off.
A fragmented mind strung itself together, latched onto the hero educator's words for anything of insight. A pep talk might usually act as a salve against an ego's wound, but in lieu of direct advice, Farrin was already replaying the fight in his mind - to the best of his ability given the time-turner's fragile state. Something special? He had to be. To live up to the name Oberon, he needed to blaze a trail that left him standing among the best. Only when counted himself among their ranks might he be ready to face the unknown threat looming in his dreams, his nightmares.

Robin was certainly a peculiar one. Theirs was certainly an odd bunch, but take away the temporal alarms that rang around Leo, and Robin perhaps ranked as the absolute oddest.
Farrin now knew that Thea's dosed-up demeanor came courtesy of her quirk - which explained away some of the peculiarity. Zenkai was mostly a gentle, if lazy, giant. He had his secrets for certain, but who didn't? Farrin would dig into the nature of his quirk one day. Leo? Again, temporal alarms. They flew him to the tippy top of Farrin's sus list, but nothing of his character threw Farrin off. It was all about time and how it acted around the former tyrant. That left Robin. An enigma framed with wings and a rifle. How many heroes brought an arsenal to school? Well, an arsenal of firearms and military-grade tech. Unlike Thea, at first glance at least, it didn't appear as though the girl's oddities stemmed from her quirk. So who was she really beneath that helmet?
"Somethin' like that," he responded with the slightest smirk, eyeing the case she unlocked. "Not flight, per se, but I think I've figured somethin' similar out." He left the details behind his temporal trickery at that for now.
"Did flight come naturally to yuh' once yer' quirk emerged or did it take time ta' develop?"
The method of potential air travel was too different for him to glean anything of use from Robin's experience, but maybe this would lead to the first piece of the Robin puzzle. Maybe he'd even uncover why she felt so familiar to him too.
Farrin eyed the drone. "Cute is certainly a word wit' which ta' describe it." It was certainly an interesting device, but he lacked the affection for such "toys." It was pretty cool though. "How yuh' plannin' on usin' this thing? I mean, yuh' already have wings. Though I suppose it's much easier ta' get a stable bird's eye view wit' a drone, no pun intended."

As a child, Farrin asked his mum to hold the mushrooms, but given the courtesy - and circumstances - he wasn't about to complain. No, he didn't know about the second War Dog being related to his predecessor or even Tanuki, only that someone was using the name, but it wasn't a mistake he ponder for long. Above & Beyond could have cued him in, but they wanted him to figure this out mostly on his own, and by the time of the original War Dog's passing, and the supposed death of Tanuki, Farrin was dumpster diving for lunch. While Shu's family was passing torches and mourning their dead, both fake and otherwise, Farrin was learning not to turn away a properly made meal. Like the one before him.
"'Preciated," he genuinely responded, digging into his plate.
In a blink, he's down half a plate of baked beans. Fun fact, most baked beans were actually steamed beans. But the point his he's scarfed down his beans, the eggs had nearly disappeared, and the sausage link was soon to follow. A few bites in, and his ruby stare is shifting between Shu and Zazie as he explained the relationship. So, he was a parent. That's a card Farrin could play. Not yet though. With half a hand remaining, there was no need to drop the drama bombs. Some secrets were best kept close to the chest, if possible.
"Nope, dun know what yer gettin' at, lass," he said after swallowing a mouthful of eggs and beans. "Didn't have the luxury o' followin' the media much back then." He'd leave his parental circumstances at that for now. "N I was sent 'ere without so much as an address. No' much ta' go on, less time ta' prepare. Still," he continued, dabbing his face with a napkin, "it's peculiar that some barkeep would be familiar wit' a UA student's chosen hero alias, which means Above n' Beyond certainly contacted yuh, didn't they Morinji Shu?"
Two could play at that game. Barty had given Farrin that much to work with. Clearly, most of the Noyote's patrons were at least somewhat familiar with the owner's circumstances, so whether or not this was some bomb dropped was entirely unknown to the boy. Best case scenario, he made it abundantly clear he knew who he was talking to and baited out some sort of worthwhile response, but this old bastard was stubborn. Would he dig his feet in further at the claim?
"In any case, I'm no' in the business o' wastin' time, so, if I can't find the Tanuki 'ere, maybe yuh' might tell me where I'll find the former-Tanuki? Yuh' know, a Tanuki no more but once was?" He poking at particulars now, but maybe it would a difference.

But, it would be foolhardy to argue such transactions weren't the most method to accrue trust. Farrin knew Thea was lying about something, knew as much since the day they met in the training grounds. He just wasn't sure what she was lying about. Her history was her own though, hers to dispense as she wished. Just as were the details behind her quirk. Even if she hadn't asked, he would have divulged a little of Chronokinesis's secrets at least. But first, there were far more important matters to attend to.
"That's 'cause Chicago dun' have pizza. They've tomato soup in a bread bowl. We," he emphasized with all the seriousness that was the conversation of pizza, "do pizza. N' we do it ta' perfection. Somethin' in the water yuh' jus' dun' get anywhere else."
The city slowly quieted as the two made their way to the edge of this side of town. Light crowds petered into a few passing faces, which in turn dulled to an even smaller handful of passersby. Lowly mutterings could be discerned between those few that remained. It was almost eery how swiftly the swarm, however small it was today, deteriorated into a few busybodies. Still, Farrin thought nothing of it, and so he played the exchange.
"Me' quirk allows me ta' mess wit' time," he admitted, "n' sometimes that lets me see things too. I can't control it entirely, n' can't change anythin', but I dun' just see people's pasts, I can see their possibilities as well. It can be a lot ta' sort through n' sometimes, if it's strong enough, it can sorta loop inta' mind n' I may just spit it out."
Few numbered those that knew of Temporal Resonance. Usually, when pressed, Farrin glossed over the more flashy aspect of his quirk. Move fast, slow other things down, but he required little in the way of resonance to understand how most might distance themselves from a girl who could play with their memories at the touch. Maybe this transaction may just become a lifeline down the thread of time.

Through the sea of rolling clouds that are Tokyo's populace, he bolts. Where Sada's concerned, his light and energy, the ability to keep going, are infinite. She's his heart in human shape. The pulsating beats surge through his veins and make the entire world come alive.
Neon lights and a billion billboards bleed into the distance alongside every vehicle, body, and form left in his passing. A quick turn to the left, down a dark alley, then a sharp right. The muscular monstrosity looms in the gulf carved into the side of the church. In the past, against that shadow-man he faced with Zenkai, Farrin froze. Not this time. Not when the stakes were so much higher than his own life.
"Oi, roidrage, how 'bout we put the anadrol down fer' a second n' use the thing sittin' between yer' ears fer' a moment. Yuh' know, think things through," Farrin called from about halfway down the street outside the church.
That was the one warning he'd offer the big fella. Of course, meat-for-brains did not accept.
"WHAT WAS THAT, SMALL FRY?" He shouted, turning to face Farrin. "HOW ABOUT YOU COME A LITTLE CLOSER, ACT BIG AGAIN AND SEE HOW IT GOES!"
"Only one 'ere actin' is you, yuh' oversized gob," Farrin sighed, leaning down into a runner's start. "Alright then."
The student-hero was a blur against the wind. He zipped down the street, skidding to a stop behind the oversized thug, then leaped into a dropkick aimed at the back of his knee. The towering titan tumbled backward, strong but not so strong that he could eat all of Farrin's weight thrust into the back of his joint. Despite his size, through, he was quick to react. Using the momentum of his fall in his favor, ol' Bane-brain dropped back on his elbow which slammed into Farrin's ribs, vacating all the air from his lungs.
The thug didn't waste a beat. He pushed himself up onto his knees and took another swing. His fist met only the concrete, carving a hole into the sidewalk. Farrin rolled away at time-turned speeds, then pushed up off the floor and up into his fighting stance. Sada was inside, he caught a glimpse of her as he passed the thug for his dropkick, which meant she was safe for the moment. Big boy was distracted. Now, Farrin just needed to topple the tower - again.

A vast expanse of rolling hills covered only in green. Farms dotting the island between the few big cities that populated it. A simple life for many, but a fulfilling one. He would have to visit his nan sometime soon and introduce her to Sada, but he was also due an earful for not returning after the passing of his parents. He didn't know exactly why he ran when the suits came for him, to return him to his remaining family, only that it felt like abandoning his mum even though she was already gone.
Farrin returned to the table, his plate looking like a slab of chicken covered in tomato sauce and cheese and framed in a few vegetables he scooped up to balance the meal. He took his seat opposite of Natsumi and began to scarf the delicious concoction down when her question reached his ears. A hero duo? He and Sada were that and far, far more! She was the star around which his life revolved!
"Could say that n' far more. Her name's Sada Tanaka, n' she's me' girlfriend. We met at Hero Prep n' both made it inta' UA. She's in class right now. I'd introduce her otherwise."
Maybe from the outside, it might seem weird he was eating alone with Natsumi when he had a girlfriend, but his loyalty to Sada was beyond debate or question. She was his everything. And it was she and Barty that pushed him to socialize more, so that's what he was trying to do. Natsumi appreciated the particulars that went into a proper scrap, and that was an interest that Farrin could go on about for quite some time. Evaluating why a fight went one way or another was fascinating when among others well versed in combat. The intricacies of a fight essentially led him to train with Miroru regularly, for both their benefit, and now there was someone else he could talk to about such matters. Despite his aversion to most people, Farrin was beginning to grow a small network of... acquaintances - perhaps even friends.

The plague hadn't spread across the entirety of the massive metropolis, of course. There were plenty of good people going about their business in the evening hours and that of night, but there was no denying that darkness and shadow nourished those equally dark and depraved. It emboldened them, was salve to their fears, and empowering to their "courage," if it could be called that.
Fortunately, Farrin and Freja weren't out and about in the city looking for trouble. No, Farrin was taking Freja to look for some proper boxing kit. His Emerald Fist was built on the foundation of Dornálaíocht, which assumed one was without gloves, but that was no reason to disregard basic safety. They could practice the bare-knuckled boxing form with some gloves until Freja progressed further.
Eyeing the phone in his hand and the maps app he had open, Farrin's gaze would lift from the device to the next street they needed to cross. "Shouldn't be too far now," he said to his companion for the hour. A few of Farrin's classes stretched beyond the afternoon and well into the evening, hence their late-night excursion. The store they were looking for, Martial Effects, wasn't too far beyond the wooded perimeter around UA. About a half hour out from the school on foot. He could cut that time down with his quirk and often did, but technically they weren't supposed to be abusing their abilities outside of campus, so he'd adhere to the rules this time around.
"How're classes goin' fer yuh'." As much as Farrin loathed small talk, he was genuinely interested in Freja's progress. Just how well could someone who ranked among the quirkless hold up against the likes of UA? He didn't doubt her, but his curiosity demanded satiation.

Back and forth between New York and Dublin he went, visiting his nan and the rest of his extended family back in Ireland fairly often. Then he didn't travel at all. Couldn't afford the luxury of daydreaming about what his life would have been like elsewhere. He still had pizza though, and pizza was a gift from the heavens he never believed in. Cheap. Cheesy. Delicious. What more could one ask for? Tasted good even half-eaten, cold, and sitting in the bin for a few hours.
"How 'bout through those memories yuh' can peep? E'er experienced life in New York? N', if yuh' dun mind me askin', how does that work? Like, could yuh' taste what someone else tasted? Or is it like watchin' a movie n' yer just sittin' in yer seat while it plays?"
Privacy was a curtain behind which many people hid their quirks. Farrin was no exception. He wouldn't lie, he just wouldn't really explain the entire nature of his quirk usually, or leave out a few details at the very least. He knew what it was to see the past of others, and their future too, but he experienced such things in glimpses usually and was more of an outsider looking in on their lives. He didn't live in their shoes. He observed.
"Somethin' like that. It's a back alley spot, though not entirely small either." It was most akin to the Noyote, albeit smaller, but unless Thea had frequented the bar / cafe, there was no point dropping the comparison. "I heard it's owned n' was made by people from me own neck o' the woods. Explains the name." Though he still hadn't confirmed as much.
The mystery of the Doug would be solved another time. Navigating the crowds was easy enough, but what the two didn't know is that they were being followed.

There was the distinct possibility he might need to make minor field repairs at some point. Not something he could do without some basic understanding of Kei's method of approach. Had he opted to use gunpowder, there was even the chance he would have to ditch the gloves if it seemed they were about to blow. Luckily, the latter would never be an issue. In any case, knowledge was often power. If he couldn't deal with range on his own, he needed to know the workings of the tools he used to compensate. Knowledge. Power. Power he'd use to save people.

Yeah, he was a volunteer too today, though not quite in the same fashion as his most fashionable Sada. No, he essentially served the role of an intern sent to grab everyone's lunch and coffee. Still had to wear the pin though. Le sigh.
Zooming through the hospital's front entrance, Farrin skid to a stop ahead of the front desk. One of the receptionists, Okane, danced her fingers across the keyboard while speaking on the phone. The seconds that went by between his arrival and her finishing the call passed as hours in his mind, but who was he to rush hospital staff? When the young woman finished she looked up to the time-turner with a smile.
"What is this, lunch run number ten, new guy?"
"Somethin' like that." This was his thirteenth run, actually. "Know what floor Dr. Tamotsu is on? He told me he'd be flitting about fer' a few hours."
He wanted to drop his most beautiful dragoness's iced coffee off first, but playing favorites would reflect poorly on her. He was only really here for the day, where this was becoming Sada's gig outside of school now. After the attempted mugging the prior night, though, he wanted to be nearby for at least a day, just in case.
"Yeah. He's on the third floor now. Another of the hero-wards. Ms. Tanaka's still here on the first. Just thought you'd want to know," she said with a smile.
His and Sada's relationship was no secret, despite the hospital staff acting as though he was running around waiting to make his move. The move now was getting his girl her coffee, people. First stop, third floor. He placed the plastic bag holding Dr. Tamotsu's lunch down for a moment, dug his phone out, and thumbed Sada a text.

She'd see when she saw it. He was in no particular rush outside of fetching everyone their food. In a blur, he was gone - off to the third floor.
