Sada was studying for the first series of upcoming exams, and the rest of the usual suspects were either training themselves or otherwise also studying. Left to his own devices, Farrin continued to hone his martial prowess with the Emerald Fist atop his grassy hill at the back of UA’s training fields. But as the sun slowly journeyed across the sky, Farrin found himself back at the dorms.
Everything needed fuel to function, himself included. His hunger hadn’t tethered him to the full meals found in UA’s cafeteria, but something the snack on back in the dorms. There were a few cold cuts and some bread left in the communal fridge on the first floor, so that was his destination. A simple sandwich to fuel the tank before he got back out there to continue training.
The time-turner jetted across the grassy fields of the training areas, and into the dorms. It was there he cut off his quirk and slow-mo’d it over to the fridge. Popping the door open, he snatched up some ham and cheese and went to work constructing his small lunch.
The dorms were mostly quiet around these hours. Most were either in class or training. Granted, it was the weekend but that simply replaced classes with the aforementioned studying. It was also the perfect time to enjoy a meal in solitude, so Farrin threw his food together and sat at the table in the first-floor lounge with an open view of the front entrance and the rest of the lobby. Some food and solitude, what more could he ask for before venturing back out for more practice. He hadn't even fired Chronokinesis up yet. The speed at which he swung thus far came courtesy of his personal training. When he did use his quirk, his fists moved as lightning.
"Actually, I've no' used me quirk yet. It's a flashy event when I do, no' by choice though." As she would see soon enough. "Yer' hero name is certainly fittin' given yer' abilities," he replied in kind. Then, it was back to business. They didn't have long before the exercise began. "Alright. If I recall correctly, all the hostages are supposed ta' be in that buildin'" he pointed to the largest spire at the center of the fake city. "but the enemy could be waitin' fer us outside as well. I think we should blitz our way ta' the front, I'll speed us up, then we spread out n' enter from two different angles. They'll know we're comin', but hopefully, we catch 'em off guard. Or, maybe, I'll hold their attention on the lower levels while yuh' sneak upstairs n' look fer the hostages while miniaturized?"
Blitzing the building saved them the most precious resource that was time. But, once they were inside, there was too much potential for chaos. It was nearly unavoidable. They could try to control the flavor of chaos though. Either double down on breaking through the bads level by level, together or let Farrin play bait, drawing the enemies down to the lower levels and easing up Natsumi's path to the top - or wherever the hostages were being held.
Either way, the bells would ring, and when they did Farrin would fire up his quirk. Entering his Temporal State was marked by fiery white wisps fluttering around the time-turner, joined by the crackle of emerald sparks. His ruby eyes warmed to a golden hue and even took on the appearance of clock dials. Without another word, he would wrap the two of them in slight translucent-emerald fields, and the world would appear to slow to a crawl. In truth, they were moving much faster, and so Farrin would blaze the way ahead, towards the spire.

His body, the ethereal form he took while diving into the deep of time, was assaulted by the searing sea, and there was no end in sight. Only himself, Magister, and the endless dark.
"You're waking to the truth, aren't you? Push all you want, but the answers you seek require a more elegant touch than your brutish methods are capable of. You are naught but a pale imitation of your counterpart. Your Alter. He was the Omega to our Alpha. You, however, I would hardly equate to spare parts."
"Enough!"
Farrin fired his fist forward. It connected with Magister's jaw, and still, he smiled. Again and again, Farrin battered the Darkling. With force that dwarfed his every prior punch and swing, he laid into Magister. Yet his dark opposition remained entirely unfazed. Undisturbed. Indifferent to the assault the time-turner meted out.
"Who was he? N' how did he become so much more than I-"
"Could ever hope to be? You're setting the bar so low, but I suppose I can entertain that much. He was better than you. Contrary to the beliefs of many, life does pick favorites. It has not picked you. Everything you have, you've come to possess only due to his interference. This very conversation was made possible by the gifts he chose to leave you, but how could you ever make good on them? You're weak. And gods must be strong."

Farrin's arms blistered, but his grip around Magister's throat would not ease. Instead, he dove, against the current and the growing pressure, pulling his enemy with him. Farrin knew this wasn't the real magister, only a manifestation of some kind, but overcoming such obstacles might still bear fruit. Glimpses of what was, and what might be.
"I dun' have time fer yer' games!" Farrin shouted, plunging further into the depths.
"Oh, but we've only just begun to play," Magister replied, the many eyes dotting his form all focused on Farrin.
That eery smile. No matter the burn, no matter the pressure, no matter how hard Farrin tightened his fist, it would not break. Not for a moment. It was infuriating.
"Who are you really? N' why do I recognize yuh? Why do I recognize so many I've never met?"
"All these questions, all this effort, and nothing to show for it. It must be eating you hollow," Magister laughed.
And his words rang true. Armed with the mightiest arsenal, the power of time, and still he couldn't pierce the veil of mystery that circled Chronokinesis. If the Darkling wouldn't answer with his words, Farrin would force the answers out of him, out of his own mind, by plummeting further. Pressure bore in from every angle. The time-turner was scorched from head to toe. He gritted his teeth, willed his way through the pain, and dragged Magister with him into the abyss.

But just like the Darkling in the world above, the enemy proved less than useful. There was only a smile, that grim smile that journeyed from one ear to the other. Farrin wouldn't freeze this time. He dove further, faster, and drove his fist forward for the Darkling's face but he was already gone.
"You're not fast enough. Not strong enough. Not - great - enough to pose any threat to us, child. Try as might, you'll never live up to it, and in the end, you'll find that despite your efforts, everything withers away. Oberon is a name beyond your reach."
The words landed like explosives, blasting Farrin about under the currents. He was lost in the dark. Alone. His "skin" seared from the bright light that was Magister's truth.
Wait. That was his name. Somehow, Farrin knew it. Knew this name all along, far before he ever ventured to East. It fit, a single puzzle piece that snapped into place. Only a million more to go.
"Yuh' always did talk a big game. You n' yer' brothers too, but each n' e'ery time I won, isn't that right, Magister."
Farrin thrust his hand ahead, and though there was nothing but the bitch black of night below the sea, Magister appeared. His throat was wrapped by Farrin's fingers. He got the little bastard now. Brothers? Information. It was seeping out between the threads below and up into the currents. Farrin was remembering. Remembering times, people, and places he never experienced himself. At least, not quite.
"So, you're beginning to remember? That's... notable I suppose, but far from impressive."

Truly, it was one and the same here. Nonetheless, the challenges remained numerous. Where one aspect of the mind tightened its breath, and threw its arms forward, pushing itself further and further below, another aspect ran its fingers through the infinite threads that were the sea's true make. He had to focus on the snake. Once he saw it with Zen, before fighting the darkling. Then again the symbol down the alley the music maker drew him and Thea down. His hands lunged grasping for something, anything. But the waters would deny him. The currents rose, pushed back, and whipped him up and away from the depths. He wasn't supposed to see these things. Not yet. But even in this time, Farrin remained far too stubborn to stop so soon. He pulled back, then threw himself ahead. Further below. Against the currents pushed against him, but as nimble fingers combed through time in search of the symbol, he simultaneously found that the currents offered less resistance. He could do it.
Plunging to these middling depths was never so far beyond him. The trick had always been staying there long enough to see anything of merit before had had to come up for air. Today's dive had already proved the longest he maintained yet. And he was still swimming deeper. Pressing through the dark, pushing through the endless threads, the first of many figures would appear. It was none other than the darkling's visage.

Not as he once was at the end of it all. As threads wove this way and that, ripples cast across the temporal sea, the Farrin of here and and now sat quietly in his room. It was mishmashed mess of his and Sada's remaining clothing, a simple gaming setup by the flatscreen television, and countless weights and the equipment racks they belong to.
The room was a mess, but Farrin laid at rest for the night. Too overwhelmed to see it all cleaned. The worst had come to pass, and no amount of training atop his hill would cure him of this illness. Instead, he opted for silence. Complete and utter silence.
His eyes were shut, an arm laid across his head. It was a Farrin of dread and focus in equal measure. He sifted through the mess that was the back of his mind, and dove deep into the dark waters that awaited him there. An image had repeatedly played in his head. He had seen it twice recently, and so it had stuck. A snake eating its own tail.
So, alone in the dark, he swam. Diving as far as his 'lungs' would allow. In these pitch black seas all there was to navigate by was his own intuition. Sight served no purpose in the temporal depths. Only the images he held onto in his mind. The snake. He had to focus on the snake. Drop far enough to grab a glimpse at what it meant, then come up for air as fast as he could.

The larger threat had its sights set on the time-turner now, as he had hoped, but Ironclad would have to handle the thugs within. Whoever finished their respective opposition first would need to reinforce the others. For now, that meant digging into the walking mound of ink and shadow alone.
"Funny guy are yuh?" Farrin taunted, throwing a temporal deceleration field around the vehicular projectile. As the car came into contact with the field, it was slowed to a snail's pace, mid-air. Meanwhile, the young hero-aspirant was on the move.
Farrin sped ahead, straight under the car and the field slowing it so, directly toward his enemy. He was strong for sure, tossing a car around like that, but his earlier reactions were sluggish when held against the Chronokinetic standard. Any wayward swipes or slashes weren't likely to fend Farrin off for long. He moved fast and saw the world as slow. Weaving his way in, Farrin swept low, then sprung upward, throwing his weight behind a rather nasty uppercut.
"Next time dun' bite off more than yuh' can chew!"  Whether the shot connected or not, he would immediately follow up by darting around the oversized ink blot and launching a kick aimed directly into the fecker's back. If the dark Sin was feeling any of the prior blows still, the kick might layer on some extra damage and whittle away and the mock-villain's defense. Farrin had trained for this. Three years in Hero Prep, and another with Above & Beyond. He could finish this fight, help the others if needed, and see the real but not actually real villain apprehended. And so he would.

"I've a firm grasp on th' more straightforward functions o' me quirk. The stuff I use more in a scrap. But, time has quite a scope to it n' there are plenty things I"m still tryin' wrap me head around n' muster control over."
Move faster. Make them move slower. That was the easy stuff. It felt like swimming down rapids. Swim with the current and he could speed things up. Apply some controlled resistance and the world would do the same where he willed it. Resonance though, came from the deep. The cavernous recesses at the back of his brain. Diving to those depths required lung capacity and a preternatural resistance to pressures unmatched. He lacked the metaphorical equipment to truly touch on those powers, and he knew it.
"Most dun' know 'bout it." It wasn't as though he had many friends back home. What were a few crackpots under the bridge gonna say? Most were too occupied in their own little worlds. The others never lasted long. "Th' few that do are close 'nuff that they understand I can't fully control it, n' wit' what control I do have, I dun' use it anyone who doesn't ask."
He and Sada shared much of their past. It was easier when the person was both close in proximity and willing to leave themselves open to him. Even then, it didn't always work, but there were few more intimate forms of connection than opening oneself entirely to another. Did Thea have anyone like that before UA? She remained mostly mum on her previous life still.
"Well, I was gonna ask if yuh' have any siblings. Maybe a brother? That night, I saw a bloke that coulda passed fer' a siblin' or a cousin or somethin'. Tell me, can yuh see other people's dreams via their memories wit' yer own...."
Farrin's words trailed off as the two passed an alleyway. Down the alley, he saw something. Someone - someone familiar, yet not entirely. Or, well, perhaps not only familiar, because it was more like looking into a perverse mirror. He saw - himself, but adorned in something like royal attire. Slightly taller, slightly larger in stature.
"Do - eh - do yuh' see that?" He asked, pointing down the alley. Then he took a step toward the doppelganger. Farrin was definitely the "yeah let's walk, it's not that far away" even if the place was ten miles out sort. Luckily, that wasn't the case this time around. They really were only a few minutes away from their destination.
The crowds were still rather light on this side of town. UA was built on the outskirts of the metropolis. Where else could they get away with constructing the mock cities of Grounds Beta and Gamma? Additionally, the distance discouraged prying eyes. Not that a few miles off the beaten path and through the woods would stop the most curious individuals, but it sure didn't hurt.
"BBB?" He asked, unfamiliar with her newest toy. "N' appreciated, lass. Yeah, it's been goin' well so far I suppose. I'm already familiar wit' a lot o' the content their pitchin' us these first few weeks from Hero Prep, at least on the heroic academics end."
The quality of hero simulations and physical exercises were worlds apart between UA and Hero Prep, but classes on hero ethics and law only changed so much. UA was certainly more thorough but armed with the basics, Farrin picked up the rest rather easily. As for traditional academics, he had always been a B student, and based on the first few exams they had taken, that wasn't about to change. He wasn't an idiot, but he was no genius either.
Farrin guided them across the street, then down towards the corner. They were only about three blocks away now. A rather rambunctious lot of younger fellas, probably somewhere around his and Freja's age range, were laughing too loudly for him to continue, but once they had passed he would look back to his classmate.
"Well, I'm sure as yuh' accumulate more gear ta' give yuh' yer own edge, yuh'll start blazin' through the courses. Meanwhile, I'll try ta' help yuh' wit' the basics."

When Farrin pushes Chronokinesis beyond its limits, the quirk factor in his eyes floods his body with temporal radiation. Due to the quirk factor's close proximity to his brain, this radiation takes the shape of the mental personification of his power, seeing the emerald powers of time take shape in the form of one wing, half a crown, and two large sigils around his wrists, in addition to several motes of light that surround him.

Emerald Smash!  Rank: ASupermove Type: Additional Functionality Supermove Description:By using his personal field as a conduit, Farrin can force temporal acceleration and deceleration together, expressing an entirely new and incredibly destructive facet to his quirk known as Temporal Erasure. Focused around his fists, this new temporal power exerts radiation that, upon contact, tears the opposition apart in a display of immense power. Farrin typically dubs the final blow delivered with this movie "Emerald Smash" in homage to his mother's ultimate move. Mechanically, this move layers A-rank damage over any attacks Farrin delivered with his hands. Supermove Drawbacks: Of course, this power comes at a cost. While Farrin's close-range attacks become nearly uncontested in the damage department, he loses the ability to create any temporal fields at range, meaning he is limited to his personal field and the destructive power layered over it. As mentioned, this destructive power is also limited to his hands. And lastly, while Farrin deals extra damage, any damage received is also increased by three tiers due to the strain this power puts on his body. |

Even outside of Chronokinesis's "temporal state," and despite the sluggishness his quirk incurred on him when he didn't utilize its full strength, his fists flew like fighter jets. Each combination of jabs and crosses carried with them enough force to break bone. For his was the art of the scrap, and learned student he was.
He only slowed when Natsumi's voice reached his ear. His left fist flew, landed a hard jab against his imaginary enemy, and the bout was concluded. Cutting his combo there, he hopped back, then turned to face Natsumi in her very brightly colored hero outfit. There was a stark contrast between their apparel. His consisted of black overwear, including a waist cape, and trousers, colored only by a few dark violet wrappings overlapped with black belts as well. Still, a hero's choice of wear had little effect on their efficiency in combat. The only question worth asking was: could they get the job done? Farrin would say yes.
"Oi, hey there, Sprite." It took conscious effect to call her by her hero alias rather than her actual name, but it was an effort he would reciprocate. It was important they respect their hero identities. While even the most well-guarded names often got out to the public, they had to at least try to keep them secret - unless the hero wanted their real name out there.
"Yeah, I'm ready ta' go. Sure the startin' bell is gonna ring any moment. Do yuh' wanna go over quirks?" Now that was a secret that was about to get out one way or another. No sense hiding their abilities now. At least not the base functionalities. "I can speed things up n' slow em' down. People too if yuh' keep close enough."
The fact that he accomplished this via time wasn't all that important at the moment. As long as Natsumi understood the basics, they could strategize effectively. Hopefully, her quirk wouldn't require an hour's lecture to understand. He just needed to the 101 of her capabilities. Then they could form a strategy for approaching the spire the hostages were held in. It was only his first month in UAU and he'd already lost count of how many extracurricular simulations he had partaken in. Heroics department students were highly encouraged to sign up, not that such encouragement was required in his case. Farrin genuinely wanted to put himself to the test as often as possible.This was just one more opportunity to do so.
Throughout the day, pairs of the next generations best and brightest hero-aspirants were being watched by their teachers, dissected for all they brought to the heroic table. The professors were in a nearby monitoring station. Today they were judging how effectively the student pairs could potentially save hostages up in Ground Beta's larger buildings. That was all Farrin knew.
He rolled each of his shoulders, then wound up his arms. Loosey-goosey, lad, loosey-goosey. His partner of the day was one Natsumi Taiyou, who he had the pleasure of meeting a week prior. At bare minimum, she was fairly good at dissecting a situation. It was time to see what the girl could so. She hadn't arrived yet though. Farrin had showed up early. He made an effort to do so ever since leaving his younger life behind. He did his best to live up to his mother's ideals now.
Memories of ol' mum were cast away. Distractions simply would not do. He had a mission and a few moments to himself still. So what did the lad do? What he always did. Train. He started shadowboxing the air. Jab, jab, cross. Jab, jab, uppercut. He had limbered up, now it was time to get his head in the game. The hostages were a paid actors, of course, but he was to treat this little simulation like the real thing. Anything less was an insult to who he had to become, who he was obligated to be, and, most importantly, his mother's memory.
There we go again with the distraction.

It required every ounce of strength not to fire a message back immediately but, even with the world moving all slow around him, some of the hospital's lower floors could be quite crowded during certain hours. Wouldn't want to risk losing Dr. Tamotsu lunch... or Sada's coffee. An angry Sada was a frightening Sada.
The time-turner darted down the hall, dashing between doctors and nurses, and past the elevator lobby. The world was slow enough in his mind. There was no way he was waiting for an elevator. No, instead, Farrin pried open the stairwell door and zoomed up three flights. Murphy's Law had almost struck upon his exit. The door opened just as he reached putting the precious cargo at risk, but the coffee and lunch were saved by a quick swerve and full stop just ahead of Shō.
Farrin turned down the temporal trickery, his golden clock-dial eyes fading to red - and those eyes darted between Shō's face and the coffee tray he carried. "Yup, playin' fetch fer' coffee n' food all day. Whatever greases the gears, I guess." What else did he really have to offer? Temporal acceleration could speed up the healing process over a long enough period of time, but that also meant going through the thick of a patient's pain or illness all the sooner, before proper medication could be applied, as well.
"Eh, droppin' Dr. Tamotsu lunch off up 'ere, then back ta' the first floor fer me. How 'bout yerself?"
Small talk was garbage, but the lad had held the door for him. Politeness merited politeness in kind. "Well, good luck not droppin'' in one o' these rooms outta boredom! See yuh' 'round maybe," Farrin would give in response to whatever destination Shō offered. It wouldn't be long before Farrin returned to the stairwell though.
He moseyed down the hall and dropped the bag of fast food off at the third-floor nurse's station. "Hey there! Dropin' this off fer' Dr. Tamotsu. Gotta go. Thanks!" They would hold onto it for the good doctor and Farrin had a far higher priority drop to make. Fast food was an odd choice given Tamotsu's profession, but whatever. Doctor knows best and all that. Besides, all that mattered now was seeing Sada, so back to the first floor it was. And so, Farrin made his return trip to the stairwell.

Robin had certainly found her hobby. The world had issued her a rifle - and wings. Aerial superiority in human shape. How had she not ended up in The Howlett Institute or one of the other American Hero Academies? Back home they had a far greater penchant for firearms and general lethality. Not to the degree some out here believed, but there was no denying the step or two taken toward ruthlessness in American heroics.
"I dun' see any weapons on it. Can yuh' attach weaponry ta' it without throwin' off its weight n balance?"
Farrin was wholly ignorant to military-like tech. He understood how a gun worked, and that was about as far his waters washed on those shores. Weaponized drones were a thing, but could she just slap a gun on this thing and make it work? The latter points fit together easier in his mind. Even if she possessed superior eyesight, how high could she fly before everyone looked like ants across the anthill? A drone could soar & hover, and then zoom in on a suspicious target. Still, curiosity stretched its limbs and threw another question out there for consideration.
"Yer' no worried though that while yer focused on the drone that yuh' might be less in tune wit' what's happenin' around yuh? I dun' know the specifics o' yer' quirk, but will multitaskin' like that no' be in an issue?"
His gaze shifted from Robin's helmet to the drone, then back. A person couldn't actually think of two things at one exact moment. Multitasking was actually about how precisely one could act on each thought while quickly shifting back and forth. Farrin mostly achieved this by virtue of the world feeling slow around him, but it was entirely possible she was that good.
"Yuh know, I'm sort o' surprised yuh' came 'ere rather than join up wit' the JSDF or some sort. Dun' get me wrong, I'm glad yer 'ere." He wasn't sure why that was. He barely knew this girl, but it was a genuine sentiment radiating from that temporal place in his brain, "n' there are heroes use similar tools, just maybe no' so high grade. At least no' from what I've seen out 'ere."
