[attr="class","Farrin"] [attr="class","KC1"] [attr="class","FarrinBG"] [attr="class","FarrinTop"] [attr="class","FarrinContent"] It wasn't the USJ, but it would do. Sitting beside the Physical Education Grounds was one of the buildings UA's staff often used for various forms of training in a controlled environment. How lucky for the time-turner it wasn't scheduled for use until tomorrow. A series of towering, almost featureless stone spires reached for the ceiling, drawing only a few feet short of freedom. Today, it was Farrin's job to crush them.
One mark of the marks of a hero was their signature Ultimate Moves. Maneuvers and attacks that drew out the most from their quirk and delivered unrivaled power or properties. Some might say it was too early to practice such maneuvers. He wasn't a full month into his first semester. But then, he probably shouldn't have gone looking for trouble with Zen, or tackled those muggers without first calling the authorities with Thea. Though Chronokinesis was his ally, time was a most bitter enemy. Wait until proper Ultimate Move classes? Hell with that.
The time-turner stood before one of the rocky spires. A colossal construct that was far too heavy to budge even under his fairly considerable strength. Before the mountain, Farrin was but a bug. That needed to change.
Farrin hopped in place before falling into his Dornálaíocht stance. His left fist was distanced away, his right clutched close to the chest. Then he fired away. A hard right cross, though this one was not like the others he threw in a scrap. The shot hammered into stone, a few cracks forming, his fist throbbing. A few rocks wouldn't deter him. He drew his fist back again, then fired forward, leaning all his weight into his left foot, and kicking off with his right. More cracks, more pain. Again and again, he hammered at the spire. Minute fields of varying temporal properties formed just at the point of contact. It wasn't surefire progress, but it was a start. It was time to forge the Blade of the King. Another package could only mean one thing to Robin. A new addition to her equipment. I guess ‘new addition’ wasn’t truly accurate, it was a modification to an existing piece… but that's besides the point. But it would require a testing period to at least become familiar with the interface. The device was already attached and strapped to the back panel of her armor rig and the connection to the helmet could be made from the comfort of her dorm room, but to truly get a handle for it she would need some open space. And she had it on good authority that there might be other people at the Physical Education Center. She wasn’t really one for human company, but moving targets always made for better training. She stepped into the Gym kitted out with the relevant gear to Farrin already punching through boulders. Or, almost through boulders. His fists were landing with a terrifying amount of force and the very air shuddered with each impact. Robin would pay him no mind, as had become their tradition. It was rude to interrupt and becoming the next boulder to be punched was not on her schedule today. She found a quiet spot to perch and ran a quick diagnostic of her systems. A small tablet was produced and after a few directed taps she gave a satisfied nod. Everything still seemed to be running nominally and there were no major issues in the past 15 minutes. It was really coming up Robin. The helmet was quickly fitted on and she was greeted by the all-too familiar boot up of her heads up display… except, there were a few new additions to her view. The satellite image of her surroundings had a small, blank panel inlet on top and there were several counters on the side, each flashing zero. Everything was connecting perfectly it seemed. She placed the tablet back in the recess in her vest with another satisfied nod. Farrin

| [attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... A sliver of pain remained in Jun's chest, but almost all the vestiges of her unfortunate encounter were gone. She was finally ready to continue her training in earnest once again. She wanted to bring her gear and her hero suit to this particular training ground today, but ultimately decided against it. She needed to get acquainted with the motions of swinging, but that could be an exercise for another day. She had been cutting loose more and more, but instead of working on just one aspect of her quirk or her training, she needed to push everything all at once. She was going to exhaust herself by the time she was done, but that was perfectly okay. And then she entered into the building. One guy repeatedly punching a boulder, and then some weird person just up on a perch. Not doing anything. Jun would look between the two of them, concern etched on her face as she decided to take the initiative, beginning to approach the boy. "Excuse me," she says, stopped short about ten feet away. "Um. That doesn't seem healthy in the slightest. You could easily shatter the bones in your hand, or damage the joints in your arm. I see you're making progress, but uh...there's easier ways to break a stone...?" She didn't understand too many people's quirks, but this one just seemed to be forcing himself through the rock. While impressive, she didn't think the payment of injury was worth the effort. Farrin Robin |

▲ The patrol Emi had gone out on earlier had definitely taken an unexpected turn. Sure there was always a chance that they'd run into villains but Emilia did not expect to be thrown directly into the frontlines and get her first taste of combat that same day. It really made her question just how effective she could be at her current level. She had a talk with the girls back in the dorm after this went down, turns out that before she moved in Freja and Rin had quite a dangerous experience of their own. The conclusion she came up with from this talk was that she could work on her own deficiencies with her quirk by trying to push her own limits outside of classes which was not something she felt super comfortable with. She had managed to steel herself enough alongside the support of her two closest friends and ventured to the training grounds to see what she could come up with. On her way over she was mulling over what she could try to accomplish that her quirk inherently lacked and like a lightbulb went off in her head, she realized that she wasn't able to do anything at a range like Jun had been able to do. Entering the building she immediately felt a wave of anxiety wash over her as she could see that she wasn't actually alone. Whoever these people were they were fairly intimidating, especially the guy punching the boulders over and over again. The other one perched high up didn't seem to be doing anything but to Emilia that was even more scary in its own way. Maybe they were there to monitor the progress of everyone attending which made the pressure to perform even more palpable than before. Thank god there was someone she recognized! she quickly approached Jun waving her down " Jun-senpai! Thank you for taking me out the other day. It taught me a lot and I realized I still have a lot to learn" a flash of red came over her as she realized she had interrupted whatever conversation was already taking place "O-Oh! Sorry to interrupt. I'm Emilia" she gave a respectful bow, not visibly uncomfortable at the situation she put herself in. MADE BY VEL OF GS

Ultimate training. What was even remotely ultimate about being quirkless? She wasn't sure, but it was the reason she was here today. Just because she couldn't produce snakes from her hands or turn into a giant didn't mean she could think of having an ultimate move. Who knew, maybe she would get inspired from watching the other students too? Freja stopped dead in her tracks when she noticed Farrin punching boulders like it was just another Tuesday. On-brand for someone like Farrin O'Rourke, she didn't expect anything less after she had met him on the hill and he had given her a little bit of insight into how he fought. There were other students too, the girl from the entrance exam perched up high, who she was actually walking towards and some more below them. ''Mind if I join you?'' She waved at Robin, pen and notebook in hand as she took a seat a little bit away from her, but still from a position where she could observe the others. ''Looks like you've got lots of gear. This is all I got.'' She gestured to the bat she had put down next to her. ''But I'm mostly here to observe anyway.'' She stretched her arms and looked down. Someone she didn't know was approaching Farrin, and was that Emilia? If her roommate looked her way Freja would throw up an arm and wave back at her. She didn't want to disturb her training, though. She wasn't here to interrupt or get in the way of anyone. She was simply observing and brainstorming. An ultimate move for a quirkless person... FarrinRobinjunsuinaEmilia Hall

[attr="class","Farrin"] [attr="class","KC1"] [attr="class","FarrinBG"] [attr="class","FarrinTop"] [attr="class","FarrinContent"] It's no me fist alone doin' the damage," he replied, eyes still locked onto the target. Of course, that didn't mean Jun's assessment was entirely wrong either. The throbbing in his hand was pulsating fire now, but she was right about something else as well. He was making progress.
Farrin drew his right fist back again, then fired it forward, summoning more and more temporal micro-fields. Concentrated doses of acceleration became hyper-acceleration, speeding the affected points of contact up to the point that rock became dust, this was exacerbated by the slow effects of his other fields, like tearing the stone in two directions in time. His fist was only the medium by which these specialized fields made contact. This wasn't strength training, this was quirk training. Ultimate training, though ahead of schedule, and he had no intention of stopping.
" 'Preciate the concern, but I'm no' just tryin' ta' break boulders fer the fun o' it. I'm workin' on somethin'," he added, swinging his open palm a few times to will the pain away. Then he turned to face Jun, except he found two unfamiliar faces rather than one. Another girl who was apologizing for reasons he didn't understand. "Eh, think nothin' o' it? Me name's Farrin. Farrin O'Rourke," he said with a nod, "N' I'm guessin' that makes you Jun," he turned his attention to the girl that had spoken first. He only got her name off Emilia's entrance.
Further back there were the familiar faces of Robin and Freja as well, but he wasn't going to peel himself away from his training for the exchange of pleasantries. Not yet at least.
"Well, again, I 'preciate the concern, but Ultimate Move trainin' is still a few months out accordin' ta' the curriculum n' I dun' believe in waitin' that long. There are quirks out there that make steel n' stone o' flesh, so whatever I come up wit', it needs ta' be able ta' break those sorts o' defenses."
With his explanation given, Farrin turned back to his boulder and entered his stance again. His right fist fired forward, and this time debris began to fall from the upper heights of the spire. But, again, she was right, his fist was definitely in f*****g' pain.

It threw her for enough of a loop that she had to piece together meaning before having to move forward. Thankfully, she could take that extra moment to buff as Emilia had showed up, and Jun would wave at her. "You're not interrupting...I think. Just trying to lend a hand." She'd turn back to Farrin, scratching her head. "Junsuina Kanjo, second year hero studies." She looked at the damage to the stone, picking up on the smaller cues that he was in pain. "You know, it is possible to brute force your way through life. But if you keep trying to magic your way to an ultimate attack by...doing that repeatedly, you're going to end up spending more time in the infirmary with broken hands. Believe me, I've been there before..." She let her arms relax, beginning to move to the side. "Besides, why do you need to have an Ultimate move right now? I haven't seen you before, which means you've gotta be a first year...graduation is like four years away for you, yeah? You got plenty of time to get something together! And there's lots of ways to deal with people with tougher features, too. You just gotta know how to deal with quirks like that." Farrin Emilia Hall Freja Helt Robin |

[attr="class","ZenkaiExposition"]There was no way in hell that Zen was going to use his quirk let alone try to practice an ultimate move. This little impromptu training session certainly wasn't his thing but Farrin was a friend and it was only proper to support your friends, or some shit like that. Besides it would give him a chance to see other student's quirks in action. The school always seemed to be holding competitions or training that pitted student against student so scouting out his cohort's quirks so he could learn which ones to avoid made the trip worth it.
The titan walked into the training area and promptly strode over to the only other people who seemed not to be participating in the endeavor. The other two people he didn't know and honestly didn't feel the need to introduce himself to them. Instead Zenkai lazily strode over to Robin and Freja, standing behind them as freja spoke. She was here for the same reason he was: to watch. Robin on the other hand seemed to have a cool new tablet that she was playing with. Hopefully it had some games on it.
Zenkai shoved some more popcorn chicken into his mouth as he sat down on the other side of Robin, holding the large bucket out to the other two to offering them some chickening goodness. "If it isn't the bird and the batass" Zen grinned he peered over Robin's shoulder to look at her tablet. "Yo, can you play games on that?" He asked, giving Robin a nudge with his elbow before adding "It's not racist if I offer to feed you chicken right? Cuz y'know, you're a bird and all that." ▲ Truly unsurprising that Jun would be out here for ultimate training! she had kept such a level head on their patrol from earlier that it was no wonder she was already here for more training. What a good senpai to have! Her attention was briefly pulled away from the group as she noticed Freja waving at her from a distance. "Excuse me" she took out her phone and quickly sent a text 'Hi roomie!' and waved her phone in the air towards Freja so she'd check her own. She would eventually go introduce herself to Freja's other friends that were sitting with her Turning back to the duo she was caught off guard by Farrin's heavy accent. She'd definitely heard that exact accent before but she couldn't quite place it. It was when Farrin gave his full name that it clicked and before she even realized she was doing so she had exclaimed out loud "An Irish accent of course!" before quickly realizing her mistake "S-Sorry! I was just trying to remember where I've heard that accent before." she turned to Jun after she finished up speaking to Farrin "So do you have an ultimate move junpai?" she picked up a rock that had fragmented from Farrin's strikes and held it up "I could use some pointers. Actually, from both of you if you can!" while Jun had already seen this but to give Farrin a demonstration of what she could do she crushed the rock into a fine powder and lifted her palm to show that it hadn't made a scratch on her "The other day I realized something I'm lacking. I want to figure out some way to be able to subdue villains at a distance. My quirk gives me strength and toughness but I can't do anything without getting close and personal." she shuffled a bit uncomfortably at admitting that fact. She already had issues with self-confidence and even coming out here at all was such a large step. MADE BY VEL OF GS

[attr="class","Farrin"] [attr="class","KC1"] [attr="class","FarrinBG"] [attr="class","FarrinTop"] [attr="class","FarrinContent"] His eyes had shut, his focus traveling through his arm like blood through his veins. There was a reason he needed to perform this technique, in this specific way, but that reason was his own. Farrin didn't share roots with his mother's quirk, but they were similar. Momentum Siphon saw her move at such speeds that she could pulverize boulders with her greater attacks. Her Ultimate Move, the Queen's Decree: Crimson Smash, was a single blow of unfathomable power. So, it was up to Farrin to master his own move in homage to her, the Blade of the King: Emerald Smash.
Farrin threw his weight down on his left foot again, then kicked off with his right delivering another heavy right-handed bunch against the base of the spire. Again he summoned micro-fields of temporal acceleration and deceleration, his fist acting as a pin against the temporal primer. Temporal power exploded at the edge of his fist as it smashed against stone again, more fissures growing upward and outward across the spire, more debris falling, yet it still lacked the strength he sought. The fields were collapsing too early, their intensity requiring too much focus when he was swinging so hard. While the temporal powers were tearing the stone apart, it was more his fist than his quirk.
He drew his hand away and shook it out again. Beating back any snappy retort he had in regards to his accent. Clearly, Emilia didn't mean anything by it.
"Eh, think nothin' o' it," he said to Emilia, staring at the damage he'd done before shifting his gaze back to Jun. "N' it's no' about brute force. Not brute force alone at least. It's 'bout precision. I'm just havin' a difficult time focusin' some aspects o' me' quirk, hence the practice." This was why they were here. To become the best heroes they could be. That required time, effort, and dedication. Commodities Farrin was willing to trade in spades to become who he needed to be.
"N' yer right, I am a first year, but I'm familiar 'nuff wit' the materials from these first few weeks. Best ta' focus on what I dun' know. Sooner I learn it, sooner I can perfect it, sooner I dun' need ta' concern meself wit' quirks that provide toughness without some glowin' weak point."
Most quirks had a weakness of some sort, but not all were so apparent. And then there were the exceptions. The badasses that had overcome those weaknesses, those that required a simple yet excruciatingly troublesome solution. Breaking through the unbreakable. Farrin lucked out when fighting that Golem-man with Thea. His defenses were tough, but not so thick that he couldn't break through with his Chornokinetic speed. It didn't hurt that the thug was undisciplined too.
Turning Emilia, he'd give her his two cents, "back home, we had a hero called Herculean wit' a muscular type o' quirk. He'd pick up a stone 'bout the size o' his considerable fist, crumble it, then pitch the debris at absurd speeds against tougher types o' villains. Dun' know the extent o' yer' quirk's strength, but I imagine if yuh' grow it enough yuh' could do somethin' similar, albeit a more controlled scale. He didn't have the best reputation when it came ta' property damage n' really reserved this option fer the real tough ones."

| [attr="class","bmsk"] in blackest night... Jun nodded along, taking a good second or two to process what Farrin had initially said. It reeked of arrogance, to an extent. Like he was better than everyone else. At the very least, he wasn't Gen. It was probably just some Western attitude that was carrying over. "Well, your problem is looking for something glowing, and there's more to a person than just their quirk. While some quirks provide the user with a form of toughness or impenetrable defense, there are times where you have to take a step back and reevaluate the situation. I don't understand how your quirk works, but if you're looking for precision, maybe try to apply said precision in such a way that doesn't pulverize your own bones...?" She made a motion at the spire. "I mean, if the end goal is to be precise, knocking down a stone pillar isn't very impressive. I could do that without even activating the upper levels of my own quirk, and I-" she stopped, that memory threatening to come to the surface. She looed over at Emilia, tilting her head. She remembered the incident with Emi, and the dynamic the two of them had was complimentary. Sure, Jun could take on opponents in close range, but her quirk favored much more long-range options. Meanwhile, Emilia's quirk locked her into a brawler role, with little to no long range options. "Support gear could easily tip the balance. I'm not sure stony grapeshot would be the best of options, but...maybe a series of beanbags you could carry?" She reached up to rub her chin. "It's nonlethal enough that won't cause too much damage if you hit someone with 'em, but with enough force you could potentially take someone down with them. If your quirk won't give you the necessary tools to deal with any threat, you have to be creative enough to make do with what you've got." Farrin Emilia Hall Zenkai Hatake Robin Freja Helt |

Leo walked into the building pausing a moment to take in his surroundings, the pillars of varying sizes filling the space, some already the home of other students training. It wasn’t surprising that he wasn’t the first one here, between his condition and having to go retrieve the training tool he would be using today from the old man it was expected. There were a few familiar faces amongst those who were already here along with some that the boxer didn’t know, he adjusted a large wooden spike hefted over his shoulder that the old man had sent him before moving towards an unoccupied spire.
Once the speedster reached the spire he set the wooden spike down before pulling two smaller rocks over using them to prop the spike up so the pointed end rested against the large spire. Leo reached into his bomber jacket pocket and pulled out his hand wraps and tape and began to wrap his hands. The taping portion was tricky. Usually the old man did that part for him but after a few moments he was ready to go. With a deep breath he turned to the large wooden spike bringing his fists up below his eyes, his knuckles painting outward and entering his boxing stance. With a well practiced shift of his weight Leo slammed his fist into the back of the spike pulling back and repeating the action again with his other hand the wood creaked as a crack formed where the spike met the stone as the spike began its journey into the spire.

God made man. Sam Colt made them equal. And while quirks were opening the divide again, Massif would be the one to rip them from their thrones and make everyone truly equal. Gear was truly the only way to bridge that divide and make Gods walk among men. Outsmarting them with information, good training, routine. These were the foundation with Robin. Wars are won on intelligence and she would never be outdone in that regard. Her vision flicked again, her eyes picking up on minute details unseen to human eyes. Dust and other particulates would rapidly accelerate just prior to Farrin’s impact with the plinth. Instead of making platforms by slowing down time, he was vastly increasing the impact by speeding up the force of the impact. “No, I don’t mind” her mouth went through the motions of pleasantries as her mind was completely focused on Farrin, not because that was why she was here. He simply represented the example to the other first years. He was the blueprint that everyone should aspire to be. “Yeah,” She chuckled out of habit, finally becoming aware that Freja was talking to her, “It becomes pretty useful when your bones are made of paper.” A portion of her attention would peel off and focus on the bat in question. It was, for intents and purposes, unimpressive. It was an archaic weapon from a less civilized era… and if it worked for her, then that’s all that mattered. “Could always look into the support labs. I’d recommend Ana but… No, I’ll just recommend Ana.” She added with finality and a nod. It was doubtful that one more student clamoring her for support gear would interpret her day much, but the idea would bring a smile to her face. “Yo,” Robin would parrot back, “I dunno, you’d have to find out.” She said before clipping the tablet back off and tossing it towards the titan. She wasn’t sure what trouble they could get up with the tablet, but it wasn’t really important. It was only linked to one other device besides her helmet. “Chicken? Oh no, how could you, How could you slaughter my peo- Yo, let me get some of that!” She cried at them in mock defiance before snatching some chicken for herself. Good old dependable Zenkai, always had some sort of treat. “Hey, wanna see a magic trick?” her voice gained an air of mischief as she spoke to the pair around her. [attr="class","Farrin"] [attr="class","KC1"] [attr="class","FarrinBG"] [attr="class","FarrinTop"] [attr="class","FarrinContent"] How fortunate Farrin hadn't attended the academy for the sake of impressing onlookers. Had that been his goal he may have attended the demonstrations that took place a few weeks prior. No, instead, while some students were showing off their abilities - or otherwise eating cheesesteaks - he was training. Perhaps it was this Jun's place standing among the second years that permitted her to look down on him as if he were wholly inexperienced?
"I think yer' gettin' hung up on the particulars," he said, circling his last position at the base of the spire, before preparing to continue his training, "Whether it's actually a giant glowin' spot, some pinpoint weakness, or e'en a behavior ta' exploit, the point is not e'ery enemy allow yuh' the time ta' make those observations or even possess such flaws. I'd rather not rely on facin' an incompetent enemy. Prepare fer' the worst case scenario n' I'll always be ready. Hope fer' the best, sure, but prepare fer' the worst."
That's why battering boulders was worth the growing pain in his fist. The pain would pass, and his hand could be healed if needed, but the learning of and, hopefully, eventual mastery of this technique would be worth all of villainy's weight in gold. The technique, however, required that certain something he was lacking at the moment.
"N' I'm glad fer yuh' that yer quirk can topple spires o' stone, but not e'erybody's quirks work the same. The precision I need isn't in the end result, it's what's required ta' achieve that end via me' quirk."
She was probably right in the advice she'd given Emilia though. He had Jun that. If anything, that was his inner American talking. Out west, heroics could be quite a bit more violent. His first instinct was to give her Herculean's little trick, but Jun's suggestion would be far less damaging. At least the seeds of potential options had been planted for Emilia to grow.
Farrin drew his right fist back, he shut his time-dial eyes again, focusing on the micro-fields he needed to form. Then threw his fist forward. The back of the brain began to burn. He was here. Farrin's fist connected, microscopic fields of intense temporal acceleration and deceleration simultaneously formed, shredding the insides of the boulder as Farrin's fist connected. The physical impact landed harder than even he had intended, a spiderweb of cracks raced up the spire as the top began to tumble.
Though the spire began to collapse, Farrin backed up and looked over to find Leo. The lad's very presence seared itself in Farrin's brain. It had thrown him off just a smidge as he threw that punch. Before the dust settled, Farrin took his place at the base of the spire again and readied the next shot.

Post by Miroru on Jun 29, 2023 7:46:43 GMT
Department of Heroes Freshman
Goodness, but there were a lot of people here.
Miroru stepped into the room in her tracksuit, left open over a tanktop, and set aside her bookbag as she looked around at the wide assortment of friendly, familiar, and unfamiliar faces here.
Farrin, Jun, and a blonde she didn't recognize were gathered together, discussing what sounded like options for engaging at a distance with a minimal amount of effort and equipment. If she caught any of those eyes, she had a wave and a smile ready for them- even Emilia. It was important to be positive and support those around oneself, after all.
Over to the side, Zenkai and Freja were clustered up around Robin, sharing snacks and a tablet. She wasn't quite so sure what they were on about, but everyone looked happy, and that made her smile at the sight, likewise tossing a smile and a wave off in that direction if any of the three looked her way.
Someone she didn't recognize was pounding a wooden spike into stone with his bare fists which was, to be blunt, fascinatingly intense. She stood and watched Leo for a few moments, trying to grasp what he was up to, and deciding to keep an eye on him while he worked to try to glean more as he went! He was more than welcome to a wave as well, but he did seem awfully focused.
Miroru picked a spot that would be within conversation distance of both the clustered groups- and likely Leo, too, though he seemed satisfied to stand off, and she didn't feel up to injecting herself into any of the two other existing placements of other students so she definitely wasn't about to inflict herself on someone who was deliberately doing his own thing- and wiggled her arms a bit, chewing on the inside of her lip.
She could see what a few of the others were working on. Farrin was, as ever, impressive past a fault. She could feel the wrenching quiver in the infrared heat put off by the stone he assaulted, though she hadn't the slightest clue what it indicated beyond some sort of offensive warping of spacetime. She wasn't even sure how to classify how monumental that sort of ability really was.
Meanwhile, she was here to continue her ongoing quest to learn to use her quirk when nothing made itself immediately viable as a power source.
The foxtailed redhead moved to, and leaned against, one of the stone pillars and let her eyes wander as she propped her elbows against the rock. She had an idea on how she could jerry-rig an energy source... though she wasn't entirely sure she liked it.
But that didn't matter.
Miroru brought her hands up in front of her and cupped them around empty space as if to grasp a beach ball, lips pressed tightly together. The area around her dimmed notably, in time with the appearance of an unsurprisingly beach-ball sized sphere of blackness as Miroru started cramming light into the space and rapidly oscillating its wavelength inside the sealed space, resulting in an appearance not unlike that of a stormcloud pulsing with internal lightning.
That, in and of itself, wasn't going to do much, but pushing her quirk to work with that much absurd rapidity served a purpose. In fact, it formed the baseline of what she hoped could be her ace in the hole.
And as her wrists started to heat up uncomfortably, all she could do was hope it would prove worth it in the end.
I can pay no price too great for justice.
