Like Alexandrei, Miroru too looked up at the blazing sun in the sky and resisted the urge to sigh in open relief. First impressions were a world of impact, and she wanted to make sure she made a splash when she finally showed off what she knew how to do.
If it had been cloudy today, that would have made it a whole lot harder.
For now, though, she listened to the explanations of the constraints and requirements of their assignment. Random teams, random assignment as defender or attacker, with the goal being a "bomb" set with a timer of fifteen minutes.
Did villains rely on things as indiscriminate as bombs anymore? Probably. Bombs were cheap and high impact. The trick was getting out before it went off, or getting someone dumb enough not to realize they were disposable to get it into place, she suspected. Still... bombs with timers presented her with a small advantage she wasn't in the mood to mention.
So for now, she stood by in her hero outfit, tugging her skirt down over her tights and trying not to worry about how short it felt.

"Mmm. My father's quirk is very prominent. I'm the only kid that didn't get it." Very matter of fact. Very much already moving on to new topics. It clearly wasn't something Miroru liked talking about unless contextually necessary.
"I- look, I get that, but you're going to need combat practice. A lot of it. That's going to mean beating more than a few asses in the process, Helt-san. If the process of doing so also insulates you against prejudiced bullshit like I heard at orientation, then all the better. You can get along with people AND deliver ass kickings in generous portions. People love a badass," the redhead pointed out. "Smoke and mirrors are great, but they make solutions easier. They don't really provide them. So at the end of the day, when it comes to stopping villains, outside of some very specific combinations, we're basically on the same playing field, you and I."
"Either way is fine. I just wanted to make sure you'd thought about the advantages of a private study space before we posted up someplace anybody can just waltz up and interrupt." She was much shorter than Freja's 5'11" as it happened, nearly a whole foot shorter, but somehow she was the one at the helm here. "What do you want to try first? Contacting your roommate? Or roll the dice with the library?"

"I'm from an entire family of people that are walking power stations. They have an easier time frying somebody from across the room than they do holding a conversation. So- yeah, to me it's "not much." It's great for every day life- I can use my phone without touching it, I never need a TV remote, I always tan perfectly and I only lose body heat if I feel like it- but when it comes to heroics, it's just not that useful. I can make it go dark or disappear but that's about as good as it gets unless I'm fighting directly beneath a live thunderstorm or a power station."
"Yeah, well, some students can catch those hands," Miroru said simply. "Most of the time it's insecure idiots that waste their time pushing others down. The sort of guys that'll body build instead of exercise, more scared of LOOKING weak than BEING weak. Kick a few asses and people will stop insulting you for what you don't have and get curious about what you DO."
The idea of getting dragged into Freja's negative spiral made Miroru laugh, and she shook her head. "You didn't unload nearly enough baggage to knock me off course, Helt-san. Don't go apologizing for something that didn't happen. And- yeah, you got it, situational. Against a few super specific sorts of threats it's really great, but usually, it's just smoke and mirrors."
The redhead tilted her head in consideration. "You sure you wanna do all this studying somewhere public? I don't think we're gonna have that many people swarming us to study at my wise and knowledgable freshman feet, we could do this pretty much anyplace."

Flicker.
Miroru was on her feet the moment the chair went airborn, arm outstretched but one too many filled seats between her and the flying chair. And when the roar for Shana to sit down smashed through the air, Miroru vanished with a brief, settling shimmer.
A moment later, so did her chair.
As things started to settle, both reappeared beside Shana, the chair set down where the tiger girl's had been moments before. "Here. Everything's fine. You can have this chair. No harm done," she said quietly to Shana, her fox ears perked in friendly attention. "That was a nice throw. I'm Miroru. What's your name?" Soothing tones, calm demeanors, gentle distraction- giving Shana every card to play to get herself back under control and to give everyone else fewer and fewer reasons to keep the spotlight on her and further agitate or stress her, in case that was part of the problem.
Was it necessary? Probably not, there were plenty of teachers nearby, but fewer of them in the crowd itself. It seemed easier to help the girl to relax organically rather than to just hope a teacher would manage on the spot. Thankfully, a massive hulk of a student was also muscling through the seats, making her own movement less disruptive by comparison.

"Letters. Fine can be an acronym for frantic, insecure, neurotic, and emotional. Especially since people say "I'm fine" all the time when they're like. Screaming inside that they're anything but. I like the acronym approach cuz it's out there enough to get people to think a little less about what's bothering them for a minute."
The redhead looked at the path with the various classmates exercising, and back to Jun. "Is it that intense? I thought there'd be a bigger focus on developing as a group and helping each other pull through. An individual focus is a pretty bad move holistically. Pretty sure that's how people get into the competitive heroics mindset where ratings and sponsorships matter more than collars and lives saved."
She perked up at the invite and introduction, though. "Junsuina. That's a nice name. Emotional wreck, though? Like. More so than physically?" Invite, Miroru. "Oh! Yes, I'd be happy to jog and chat," she agreed, following along at an easy pace.

"Hmm... if you say so. You don't seem very fine. Is this like, the four letter fine? Frantic, insecure, neurotic, emotional- are you being secretly observed for signs of burn out? You can just blink it out. How many letters are you at? Three? Four?" It was a bit of a tease, but a smile tended to help people step past whatever blocks were hindering their ability to enjoy their day, and that weak smile wasn't doing the girl any good.
"An accident, huh? Well- that sucks, but for whatever a stranger's approval is worth, I'm proud of you for toughing it out. And yeah, super new. I'm Miroru. Who're you?" It was kinda rude to introduce herself with her personal name only, but her family, so far as she cared, could jump off a cliff. Politeness was just collateral damage.

"I was about to ask something similar."
Miroru offered her two cents as she slowed from a run to a jog to a stop beside Robin, peering up at Farrin and the particularly impressive display he was putting on. Even against no opponent at all, his footwork and fist placement spoke volumes about his skills, and that was besides the clear work he'd done to hone his body, and whatever his quirk could bring to the party. Miroru liked to think she was pretty handy in a scrap, but he looked like he'd put her to shame. She didn't like carving out such a distinction if she was honest, but she felt like assessing herself much better was just... flattery. Empty and inaccurate.
"Sorry if I interrupted anything. I'm Miroru. You're O'Rourke, right?" She gave his last name a firm crack, doing her best. "And I don't think I've heard your name before." That to Robin. "It's a pleasure to meet you two all the same. So what's the story? The peanut gallery never show up for their regularly scheduled comeuppance after all that sniggering at orientation?"

"... hey, you alright?"
A set of light footsteps stopped nearby, just out of sight from where Jun was bent over. They approached, putting cheap sneakers into view- ankle socks, runner's legs. If and when she looked up, she'd find a redheaded girl peering at her. Not- worriedly, or curiously, exactly, but... searchingly, perhaps. "You didn't look like you were running all that hard, and you're clearly in shape otherwise- is something wrong? I can call for the infirmary if you need help with something."
Miroru wasn't really sure what to make of the other student seeming so completely winded by the rather tame pace she'd been on before Miroru caught up due to her pause. There was, in all likelihood, a perfectly reasonable explanation, it just wasn't one she had access to, so she was reduced to asking, and making sure her classmate- or, statistically more likely, her senpai- was alright before she moved on.

"WhaaaaAAT THE FWAAAAGH!"
In the worst possible fusion of "missing a step" and "tripping over a crack", Miroru put her foot down to take another step as she crossed the grass field in the middle of campus, and found her foot catapulting back upwards like she'd just stomped on a trampoline. Missing the step also meant she fell, toppling forwards and completely losing her balance, falling onto the empty patch of stretchy air and getting sent, limbs and tail flailing, through the air to slam down onto the admittedly soft grass beyond the mystery patch of broken atmosphere.
Which of course dumped the cranberry juice she'd saved from breakfast all over the thirsty, thirsty turf.
"WHO- WHAT-" Miroru ripped up a handful of grass blades and tossed them down where she'd just stepped, boggling as they just sat on top of the springy surface in midair.
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Who LEFT this here?! How is this not littering or something?!" She hissed, crouching and trying to grab at the edges of the... whatever it was, to see if she could dissipate it, or move it, or... SOMETHING besides leave it here for someone else to trip over!

It was a bit of a mixed bag, here. Seemed there were all sorts here with the 'best Japan had to offer,' including a pack of assholes who thought it was appropriate to snicker and laugh when someone asked, quite earnestly, whether heroism could be accomplished by somebody without a quirk. She felt her bile rise immediately at that sort of eroding, dismissive response, and while Leonid delivered the "correct" answer, her blood still pounded in her ears. Those derisive sniggering idiots reminded her of her family, a whole agency full of walking dynamos sniping at her for being unable to perform as they did and hurl out lightning on command. Of her father, smirking behind them and letting the older children tear into her and say the things they all knew he thought.
She caught someone nearby growling under her breath and trying her best to stay under control. She wasn't sure if the girl with the tiger features was responding to Leonid's presence, or the unacceptable responses, but she took note all the same. She looked strong- extremely strong.
She'd have to see if the blonde would train with her some other time.
For now, a kid with a thick accent- Irish, if his name was any indication- had his own question, a snipe and veiled threat at the self-centered jerks unable to hold their tongues. The nuance seemed lost on Leonid, though, as it did on the snide little bastards- and before she could talk herself out of it, her hand was in the air.
"Leonid, sir," asked Miroru, her tone crystal clear and steely. "-what do you have to say about the increasingly problematic segment of Heroics that approaches their role in society as one of a competitor or performer instead of a civil servant? The sort who actively look for ways to undermine and deride their "competition" in order to boost their own marketability- or ego?"
It wasn't subtle. It wasn't intended to be. Rokuhane Miroru was the child of the Pro Hero Incapacitor- and the only child of several he hadn't trained himself to join Stormcloud, the Rokuhane family hero agency. She hadn't inherited her father's quirk- and she apparently hadn't inherited his venal nature or vain personality, either. That question was as much a stab at her family as it was a slap in the face of those who would ridicule someone- someone putting themselves on the line, no less- just for lacking a "suitable" quirk to do so.
I can pay no price too great for justice.

"Yep. It's not much- a little select-spectrum refraction to remove most of the energy in the light waves hitting our bodies. Like sunglasses for our skin, sorta," Miroru explained- er, well. Simplified. It was more complex than that, to keep the visible spectrums and weed out the bits that heat without lighting their vision, but she'd learned a long time ago that nobody else really cared about how complex what she's doing was.
"Yeah, really. We're heroes, you know? Or gonna be. Seems to me like helping my fellow students be the best they can be is one of the biggest impacts I'll ever have. Plus I'm good at studying. I can probably teach you some tricks so it's not so daunting," offered the redhead. "Heroism isn't about having something to gain. I've... seen. What people turn into when heroing is something that Gets Them Something. I don't... ever. Want to be like that."
She shook her head. "Not selfish. Just- embarrassing. I don't think it should be, but I understand why it is. So don't sweat it. I'm here to help everyone be the best heroes possible, not to- I dunno, show them all up and push them down. When we win, we win together. That's how we come out on top."
She frowned slightly as Freja shared where she was starting from. She read it less as "lost cause" and more of "Blank slate". She tilted her head. "You must be underestimating yourself here somewhere. You made it past the entrance exams, you're not just- a paper doll that needs dressed in a hero outfit. You just need help studying. That's okay. Like I said, I'm good at that."
The question about her quirk makes Miroru snort. "It's powerful if you're a flashlight. Or a dynamo. Or a microwave. It's -handy.- But unless it's a really sunny day and I have some reason to literally cook somebody alive, handy is ALL it is."

Miroru flashed a smile. "It IS," she reassured, as Freja called it a pleasure to meet. At the admission that things are much colder back home, much of the heat of the direct sunlight evaporated as the area shaded over, the pair surrounded by a fey twinkling of sparkling lights as she refracted the infrared light away to keep them from heating up. "Embarrassed..? It's okay, there's nothing to worry about. Say what's on your mind." At this point, the redhead was more curious than anything else.
What she didn't expect was such a simple request.
"Oh! Ah- well, sure. I'd be happy to help. I'm collecting most of the materials for myself as is. Is it just the materials you need, or do you need a study buddy, or..?" Miroru rubbed the back of her head, shuffling her floofy hair about. "I'm sorry, I don't really know much about you yet. Tell me a bit of what we're working with and what you're looking to improve on!"

She found the redhead running around the dorms, exercising and pushing herself to make lap after lap. Freja caught her as she was taking a breather, bent over and soaked in sweat from the run. Getting approached wasn't what she'd expected, but it wasn't a problem either. She flashed a breathless smile and straightened, focusing for a moment. "Oh, hey. Hoo. How. Ah. How are ya? Yeah, weather is. Super nice. I'm Rokuhane Miroru, Helt-san. Pleasure to make your formal acquaintance." She tipped her head back and huffed, abruptly darkening as the sunlight around her partially refracted away, creating a pleasant haze of sparkles as she started to shade herself. "You warm? Do you want a little shade? I'm cooking, so I'm gonna cool down. What's on your mind? You seem... a little anxious. Is everything okay?"

The first word rumbled hard, and made Miroru sincerely consider reaching for her earbuds to help filter down the volume, but it was a one-time thing, apparently- there were no more eardrum-wobbling groars (was that a word? It felt like it should be a word) coming from Leonid. That, gratefully, made it much easier to follow the rest of what he had to say.
The redhead scrunched her lips up a little at the idea that they were the very best. It was optimistic- but factually unlikely. Her family just trained internally, blitzed the license exams, and went at it. It'd only be accurate to say this was the very best of those who sought out to develop their potential here.
But that didn't make for a very good speech.
The more Leonid talked up the student body, the more uncomfortable Miroru felt. It wasn't at all his fault. The speech was perfect for energizing a student body ready to be hyped up. Her quibbles were largely semantic in nature, and she recognized that.
It did raise an interesting question. What made for a better motivational speech? Did it go better when facts were molded to suit the content's intended effect? Clearly it wasn't foolproof, or she'd be on board too. But going the other route was sure to lose some people operating more on feel than fact, wouldn't it?
She took notes as he spoke- mostly on speechcraft theory and postulation- her silhouette dimming fractionally as she absorbed some of the light hitting her to repurpose as wireless keystroke signals to transcribe her thoughts without seeming pre-occupied while waiting to see what questions were going to crop up in such a setting.
That wasn't a guillotine she intended to stick HER neck into, at least!
