The leader finally introduced themselves, drawing Kysaly's attention away from aimlessly staring at a point on the wall to their face. A pretty little thing, they wondered how old they were compared to Kysaly. The leader seemed to almost fade into the background after introducing himself, before Kysaly's gaze would go to the rest in the room as they slowly started to introduce themselves. They were all interesting looking enough, but Kysaly was mostly worried that they'd feel out of place after hearing their goals or motivations.

Kysaly would wait for everyone to introduce themselves, giving gentle nods to each of them as they finished, even if they didn't say as much as Kysaly was hoping they would. If the doctor was going to put their skills forward, they'd hoped that more information would have been shared to make sure that these people were at least sane. Oh well, if they weren't then it was no skin off their back as long as they kept their distance.

They'd clear their throat and make sure no one else was going to talk before butting in. "My name is Kysaly Sato, I'm a doctor. I'm not sure of my goals or my purpose yet, but I am open to be of aid and provide medical attention to those that get hurt." It was a simple task in nature, but not one that most people could do well. "I will be at your beckon if you need. I also run a café, if you are looking for somewhere to lay low, or enjoy yourself." Their eyes scanned the room before falling on the leader once more.

The introductions ranged from practical to outright strange. But one of the benefits of The Undertow was that it accepted all types. Whether they were providing a service, easily motivated, or simply needed help themselves, the more there were, the more sustainable the project.

Antoine was privy to the stray that entered from above but sought not to worry his peers. It’d be something or someone they’d confront after the fact. Considering he used a liquid slug to speak Japanese, he was no stranger to the utility of pets in the modern era. They went from companions to weapons. And, sometimes, even more.

“With introductions out of the way, let’s talk mission.” He says. “I’m going to vet each of you to guarantee The Undertow’s safety. While I do that, you’re going to be stopping a human trafficking ring. They target young, mutant children who resemble your favorite circus animals. You’ll be divided into a few groups and sent to different key points to take down the operation. If any of you want to back out, then now’s the time.” There were a few comments more pointedly directed at him that he’d address before giving them the room once more. “I’ll address all questions and concerns — like food — after the meeting.”

Underneath the ichor bodysuit, Peacekeeper couldn't help but blink twice and stare at the audacity of this masochistic bastard.

"Ya know could've mentioned the literal human trafficking before we all started talking about food and other menial stuff like that. So whose heads are we gonna display? I'm just kidding, we shouldn't do that stuff unless we need too, and traffickers ain't that the type too learn so just gotta uproot whatever mini system they got going on. After all, we got enough talent here to fill a pageant."

The talk of food and all that has been thrown out the window, when the mention of trafficking rings came into the talk. Considering she saw the first effects of a ring while still a tween it's safe to say Keeper had some issues with those things.

Make no mistake though this room seemed pretty capable, if she and ghoully could take down a sea beast, surely everyone's combined might would be able to take down a trafficking ring and make sure they never see the light of day again.

Khepri's stomach turned. Something about mutant quirkers being paraded around like a freak show really rubbed them the wrong way. They couldn't quite put their finger on why but their voice sounds just the slightest but colder than before without themself even realizing it, a stark contrast with the smile still on their face.

"No, talking about food is important. You don't stop being hungry when you get kidnapped." Khepri didn't elaborate in the slightest as to how they knew nor did they think about it. Then was then and now is now. Without realizing it their thumbs start scratching at their other three fingers, almost like a nervous tick. "I've been practicing a lot for rescue missions so I'll come along. What are we waiting for, let's go?"

Their eyes flicked from person to person with almost nervous tension, inspecting their reaction and seemingly contemplating something like a true Sphinx of ancient myth.

"Count me out." Hugh was the first to speak out in opposition to the mission. It's not that he opposed what these shitters wanted to do, it was noble and worthwhile, but he knew his role. And everyone else needed to know his role before they tried roping him into some bs. "I can make a sick ass plan and I can even build some of the hottest gear this side of the garbage dump, but I'm not a fighter."

He shrugged, looking at everyone else. Many of them didn't seem like fighters either, but what did he know? He's not one to judge a book by its cover.

"Suggest you all make where you stand very clear before you get yourselves killed. I'm a walking pile of bones and not keen on sharing the gimmick."

When Ghouligan mentioned human trafficking ring, Arima smirked a little. This is the kind of operation he wanted to do for a long time; saving the innocent and making the evil bleed dry. Having encountered several mutant individuals who were inherently good, the idea of them being treated as products ignited a fiery anger within him as well. He had been patrolling every alley around the every and he seemed to miss this one. If he hadn't accepted the invitation, he might never have stumbled upon such valuable intel.

"Count me in as well," his words concise yet filled with determination. He just want to let them know he's committed on taking he task at hand.

The skeleton guy, Hugh refused to participate and urged the others to reconsider. However, Arima remained resolute, he already decided from the very first time he had rescued a civilian from the blades of an alley thug.

A fluffy tail sweeps across her perch, her nose scrunching as a crowd of dust bunnies run amok with the motion. For now, the wary are bound to take time to plan their next move. And until they set off, she'll bide her time, stretching and letting out a little yawn before getting all cozied up for a nap.

Slowly it seemed to Hiro that the tenuous interest Ghouligan had started with was crumbling away. First there was those unprofessional louts more interested in food (Hiro would never), and then the skeleton kid deciding that discretion was in fact the best part of valor.

And then there was a third one that decided the best reaction was taking a little catnap in the space of time they were required to make their decisions.

So Hiro decided to step in, and decided to slip himself into place next to Ghouligan.

"Chief, you’re losing the room. I count at least two out of three souls here might lack the stomach for a fight!" he’d reveal as if it wasn’t the most obvious fact in the world right now.

Speaking of stomachs, he was still pretty hungry.

"Maybe you should give them one of those rousingly colourful heroic speeches, I’m sure they’d be prepared to walk into hell and back for you afterwards. If it works for heroes, must work for us non-heroes too, right?” he’d continue to suggest, not even waiting to think if his advice was welcome.

Then he decided to make a display of revealing his own side on the matter.

"As for me, I am right behind you to be the one that does the swooping, you know… swooping in to save the day, just after I… found myself some pre-rescue snackage.” he revealed, doing his best (and failing) to make it sounds like he didn’t sound like a complete idiot.

"Besides, with light step in my hands, human traffickers don’t stand a chance anyways, so I should give y’all a chance rather than steal your thunder.”

Rescuing children? Kysaly for sure didn't expect that on their list of activities today. They'd blink, then blink again, a bit baffled at the notion. Helping children was for sure up their alley, but they really hadn't expected to do it with a ton of strangers that may or may not think the same as them. On top of that, what skills did Kysaly have that would enable them to be good at something like that? It all felt impromptu for sure, but Kysaly had to go with a flow a bit more and just let it happen. "I can't provide much support fighting wise, but I can be there to check on the children, on you all, for medical needs." It was the least that they could do, but perhaps the most important job. Those children may have wounds that no one could heal, but at the very least Kysaly could help sooth them just a little bit with some reassuring words and bandages. "Though, from what I've heard here, I'm not sure everyone is apt to fighting some underground baddie, especially since that wasn't what we signed up for." A pause, their eyes glaring to the leader. "What can you guarantee for us that makes this a safe thing to do, or safe enough that I should trust strangers with my life?"

[Ghouligan]

“A ten or fifteen-minute delay isn’t going to change the operation. The plans are in place, it’s about setting everyone’s expectations and seeing where everyone falls.” Ghouligan says to Peacekeeper. He respects the ambitious and how she is cutting to the meat of what needs to be done, but it’s important to note this meeting is anything but wasted time.

“There will be non-combat roles,” Ghouligan continues to reassure his peers. Even if one decides to take his side and make offhand comments of their own. He isn’t the end-all, be-all leader, but he understands the sentiment considering they’re all new recruits — hopefully. “But if the prospect of getting hurt or watching others get hurt is offputting, no one here is obligated to help. I sought to kill two birds with one stone, but I’ll use as many stones as necessary.”

There’s a meow.

Ghouligan understands animals aren’t always what they seem. In a world of quirks, it could be a messenger. Were it not for the slug in his throat, Antoine could not speak to his peers in the here and the now — he wasn’t fluent in Japanese.

“Does that cat belong to anyone here?” He asks. “If not, you’re free to go. I’ll contact the rest of you with the mission details privately.” Antoine couldn’t risk the information leaking. Especially, if someone had caught on to him.

"If you've got a way for me to watch without dying," Hugh looked down at himself and laughed. "Again. Then, maybe I'll pull my own weight. But only my weight."

The meow caught his attention, too. Normally, it wouldn't have, but having been raised by vermin, he was on the alert for cats — natural predators to his family. And an enemy to him on an ideological level. He knew it was illogical, but it didn't matter to him.

"Hey," Hugh looks at Hiro. "You been talkin' about food all this goddamn time. So, you gonna eat that? Cos if not..." Hugh slaps his stomach — or where his stomach would have been had he had one. "Then I'mma eat that bastard up." He reaches out with his hand. "Pspspsppsspsp. Come here, lunchmeat..."

"Touch the cat, you go into orbit."

The words were blunt, but she showed no signs of following through, of course, he hadn't touched the cat so it's not like she had 'too' do it. Jo already told herself that she wouldn't rip anyone's arms off, so it'd be a little annoying if she broke a promise to herself that quickly.

"As for the operation count me in the case. Maybe someone who doesn't wanna fight can be on the scene to not like fight but maybe talk to the ones we are rescuing? I mean let's be real it's gonna be not pretty and none of us wanna look like the biblical 'be not afraid' angel to these youngins."

She may have been showing that underneath the mask was a case for ADHD with how much she was jumping all over the place with topics. Though, she couldn't help but remember the first time she had helped someone kidnapped, while covered in the blood of their kidnappers...

Those people were still probably going to therapy.

Khepri could practically see Hugh's lack of eyelids squint over his lack of eyes as he made his statement. Given that he didn't have one Khepri decided to keep their tongue as well. Offhandedly they wondered what manner of things he could make before putting the thought aside. They lacked the experience to make use of whatever he could produce anyway. Getting used to a new tool right before a mission this important seemed like a bad idea even to Khepri.

Luckily the rest didn't seem nearly as afraid join the fray. Sending a happy nod Arima's way and another at Kysaly before their gaze flicked up they wondered where the cat came from. They were about to ask but managed to catch themself just in time. Anyone with cat features could be wherever they wanted to be without being questioned. That was the law and following the law was important.

Adjusting an uncomfortable fold in their vigilante costume their brows creased into a frown at Hiro's words, curious who the second person without a stomach could be. The first was obviously Hugh unless his skeletal parts only extended to the visible ones but the second seemed less obvious. Their eyes squinted. Roadhog was eating and Hiro had asked about food as well so it probably wasn't either of them unless that turned out to be a ruse. Was it Peacekeeper? She did speak up against food. Khepri's eyes squinted further. It might just be. Seeing as the cat didn't belong to them -as much as a cat could belong to anyone- Khepri waved goodbye to everyone.

"See you all later maybe!" 

With their happy exclamation out of the way they climbed up the wall towards the ceiling before making their way out from there. Idly they wondered whether the cat would be up for a chat once they were outside.

One wonders if she belongs to anyone. Another attempts to bait her for a quick bite. Another defends her with the solemn promise to act.[break][break]

What an odd group of misfits gathered here. Judging by how high strung that leader seems, she supposes she might come under fire soon.[break][break]

Should she leave? Ah, what a waste of a perfectly - Well, it is a little dusty. But other than that, a normal cat would probably consider this a perfectly good napping spot, far away from the quandaries of man and purpose.[break][break]

Her lips twitch, her ear flicking at the incessant buzzing beneath her.[break][break]

No, she rather likes it here, and her eyes will remain shut. After all, rest is of the utmost importance for someone as perpetually tired as she is. If anything, she could probably give a little more thought as to whether taking yet another detour on the way home is worth the hassle.
