Not represented mechanically is Kupo's tolerance of the cold (down to about -20°C/-4°F), which does not extend to direct ice or freezing attacks, and so it's mostly aesthetic (little utility in potential combat scenarios). Kupo's sense of smell is also stronger than a quirkless person's, but not by a significant enough margin to be of any use in combat or rescue scenarios yet.

There it was again, that feeling creeping out from the back of the mind. The feeling of hopelessness, of inevitable impending failure. It flared up as Kupo became very quickly aware of the monolithic waves battering the harbour and heading towards them. His pulse and rate of breathing began to grow faster and faster, eyes scanning the way ahead for any salvation. Then, just as quickly as panic had performed its coup, courage regained control. He was not gonna die here, and nor were as many people as he could manage. The fear remained, but without doubting voice nor overwhelming paralysis.
Time to fight, if he wanted to flee.
Kupo quickly assessed the situation. These waves were only getting bigger and they'd need to either find a building tall and solid enough to act as a safe zone or facilitate escape far enough inland that the waves lose their momentum. Ideally both, elevation would be ideal. Of the three heroic figures he could see on-scene, Kupo only recognised two of them and saw the third entirely occupied with retrieving other civilians over by them. Gorgon's Quirk was invaluable here, able to move people around as fast as needed, and Yasashi's constructs could be very helpful as floodbreaks or lifts. Objective: Reach backup.
Next, Kupo turned his senses to the closest civilian. Again, something about her rang familiar, but that was only further motivation for now as Kupo couldn't stop to address that feeling. She was very clearly panicking, worse than he'd been, a problem given he'd need her help to get her out of here safely. Luckily, this part of rescue happened to be one of Kupo's specialties. Time for some very quick grounding techniques. "Can you hear me, miss? Can you feel my hand? We're gonna get out of here, safe and sound, alright? You're going to be safe. Your friend, too, they're gonna be safe. I need you to follow me closely, okay?" He raised his voice to try and pierce through the fog of fear that had fallen over this place as the waves grew. Speaking of, here one came now. Kupo pointed forward to Hebiru & Yasashi. "You see those two heroes over there? We're gonna go to them first. Hold on tight and jump when I jump! 3, 2, 1, GO!" With two arms around the much larger woman for safety, Kupo launched off as hard as he could with his powerful legs. They didn't go as far as he would've alone, but it was far enough to reach another platform. "Go!" Again, he propelled the two forward, landing a short time in front of the wave. "Go!" Once more, this time to the roof of an abandoned truck. They extended their lead. "Go!" A final push, and they'd reached a first checkpoint.
"Gorgon-sensei, Taka-san! Need your help, I think I have a plan!" He was speaking quickly, but training helped him maintain volume and clarity. "If we can make an elevated floodbreak, we can evacuate people there and focus on people caught in the water. Can you help with that, Taka? I also need to help get this lady to higher ground and I'm not strong enough to lift her that high, so can I leave that to you, Gorgon?" He gestured to Nilmimi, passively comforting as his tail brushed up against her. As the newest wave approached, Kupo took a ready stance and looked for a shelter, pointing the group towards an alley between two large buildings. "I'm best at search & rescue and I can outpace the waves, so I'm gonna focus on trying to help anyone caught in-" Kupo was interrupted by the mostrous encroaching wave, forcing him to quickly bound between caught objects before falling into the top/crest of the mountain of water.
Kicking and powering against the water to the top, Kupo panted and spluttered, coughing up seawater. What do I do now?

Oh, how quickly even the sweetest calm turns to a violent storm. Unethical human experimentation, especially Quirker experimentation, was one of the few things that made Kupo angry. So, he had been avoiding the Elementalist's trial as much as possible. Instead, he had taken the otherwise beautiful day as a chance to relax on the beach with a penpal/friend of his. It was the curse of his sensitive ears that he was able to perfectly hear the coverage of the trial from another beachgoer's phone anyway.
The final statement of that awful villain had sent a chill down the boy's spine. This feeling worsened when the waves that lapped the shore started retreating and swelling.
Kupo had jumped into action quickly, calling for evacuation of the beach and helping to get children and other swimmers out of the water and up onto the road with their groups. His friend, another hero student, separated off and went to help with trapped vehicles and collapsing structures while Kupo focused on rescue. Once he was certain the beach and surrounding water was clear, Kupo moved along the rising shoreline to the area around the docks. There, he could see there was already a heroic response (including Taka Yasashi, his fellow Noblebright, and Hebiru-sensei). So Kupo moved on quickly... or would've. Within the constant churning and splashing of the rising tides, there was something else. The sounds of some pet-sized animal, though he couldn't quite identify it, carried over the water to his twitching ears. Turning to face the sound, Kupo saw Nilmimi.
Kupo bounded between partially-submerged cars, streetlamps and signs, before reaching the clearly distressed moth lady. There was something about her appearance that was deeply familiar, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. Approaching from within line of sight and speaking with the best comforting tone he could, Kupo spoke up. "Excuse me, miss! Do you need help? I may not look like it, but I'm a Heroics student and I should be able to get you out of the water or get another hero here to help!" He looked like little more than a young child on a beach trip, but Kupo hoped his sincere speech would help with any doubts.

Jason Riviera was quick to make friends. Not that he found the actual socialising part easy, but it's a lot easier when people are naturally drawn to you and your bar for 'friends' is more just 'people who are nice to you and who you like spending time with'. It was in the company of two of these friends that Kupo found himself, 5 minutes after the end of an Ethics & Hero Law lecture. "Good work today, Riviera-kun! This was the the first time I've heard a defence like yours for criticism of no-kill policies, almost quieted down the hall during open discussion."
"Seriously bro, I don't know how you get all this theory stuff so easy, it's impressive!"
"Thank you both so much! This kinda stuff is really close to my heart, so I try to speak out about it whenever I can... Oh, I gotta go! Bye-bye Katsumi-sensei, bye Kawahara-san!"

Kupo exited the lecture hall, out into the mostly-empty corridor. Besides his school uniform, Kupo was also wearing: a grey watch-like band around his left wrist, green & lilac star clips in his hair & fur collar, and a backpack styled after one of the cuter monsters from a pet monster anime. A small, warm smile graced his visage and his bushy tail wagged quickly behind him. A side effect of Kupo's very sensitive hearing was that he was bound to hear anything in such a quiet hallway in perfect clarity. Looking over towards the pair, it was very clear that the girl was not interested in whatever the boy was proposing. He vaguely remembered seeing her in class at some point, but was stalling on the name. With how fed-up/frustrated she seemed, Kupo was about to go and see if he could help when she suddenly turned and started walking towards him! "Oh, hi! You're... Inazuma-san, right? You doing okay?" Thinking on his feet, Kupo tried to think of an out. "I've been meaning to talk to you about that Rescue 102 project, actually. Have you got a minute?" He was bluffing, of course, but from the little he'd heard of the two heroes they mentioned this guy didn't seem like the type to take a Rescue elective.

1) Narrative Themes
Kupo has a number of these, but some are more important to his character than others. The first is the concept of 'childlike innocence'. Kupo is an unshakeable idealist and optimist, and this coupled with both his childlike appearance and his naivety creates the sense that he is innocent to the world's flaws (despite all he's gone through). This theme is pretty important to how Kupo interacts especially with characters a lot more cynical/pessimistic than he is.
The next theme I try to emphasise with him is best exemplified by a quote:
"If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants."

Kupo is very small. Small enough, in fact, to sit/stand on others' shoulders without hindering them much (if at all). Kupo's father is very big, being ~6'6" and built, and is also an influential pro hero who has supported his heroic aspirations with training and resources befitting the family's celebrity status. In many ways, he stands on the shoulders of giants.
Finally, Kupo's position on the sliding scale of 'pacifist' to 'murder is okay as long as it's a villain' is very important to his character. He stands very firmly non-lethal (thanks to influence from his prior-mentioned father) and very much takes issue with any heroes who are nonchalant about or place little value/care in the taking of lives.
2) Build
Kupo's build is pretty simple: he's quick, perceptive, cute, and made of paper & fluff. His Quirk increases Speed & Awareness, with a decent amount of investment in his Martial Arts skill (based on speed & dex), Dexterity/Presence, and Acrobatics skill. Kupo's specialty is in rescue and mobility, and everything he's good at works towards that goal. His shortcomings, namely awful Con/upper-body strength, are also thematically linked to Kupo's small stature - he's way outclassed in a world of powerhouses and titans. |

Besides all of his classes, both practical & theory, Kupo's days were usually either training or rest days. Today was a training day, which meant waking before 05:00 and spending the morning (after shower & breakfast) doing some kind of intensive training. Today, Kupo was training his fighting style/form. Fluid, acrobatic movements chained into swift, impactful kicks. Somewhere between martial art and dance. As the morning drew closer to noon, Kupo wrapped up this first training session with a break, then headed to Ground Beta. He'd been somewhat surprised when Lone Wolf had invited him to a private training session, but Kupo was never one to refuse help nor a chance to learn and improve. Arriving, he was wearing simple (and very light) workout gear, a green bandana for aesthetic, and his typical wonderstruck expression. "Hi, Mr. Lone Wolf! Thanks for offering to do this with me!"
Kupo listened and followed Lone Wolf's point to the indicated building. His expression shifted to one more quietly confident, smile widening. A rescue challenge? This was his specialty, and it would seemingly be no trouble. If Kupo had learnt anything from their lessons though, it was never to trust a 'simple' scenario presented by Lone Wolf. Dropping lower into a running stance, Kupo readied himself for the activity. He'd learnt from a young age to always ask clarifying questions, helps to prevent misunderstandings. "Quick question, but are these actor civilians or dummy civilians? The two sound differ-" Kupo was very quickly cut off by the building he was tasked to run into bursting into flames. Explosively. 'Right, there's the twist,' he thought, 'special challenge... he must know, right? Lone Wolf has to be testing my ability to act in weakness scenarios!' Kupo very briefly froze up, adrenaline engaged by the new severity of the situation, but just as fast his heroism broke through. No freezing, no hesitation, people need saving! "Nevermind, doesn't matter, this is urgent!"
Kupo rushed forward with the great animalistic speed his Quirk granted him, checking that the dark grey medical device around his left wrist was on and working before stopping just short of the burning building. Kupo took a brief few moments to assess the situation. Canine ears twitched around listening for any sign of 'civilians' amidst the roar of the fire. Bright green eyes scanned the café for routes of safe entry & exit for escorting both healthy and injured civilians. This process repeated as Kupo quickly circled the building. The fire spreading to neighbouring buildings was also a definite risk, but not one the arctic rescuer was equipped to directly combat. In a real rescue, that'd be the firefighters' jobs. When Kupo had found his angle of approach, he entered the café via a top floor window, bringing his bandana and fur collar up to cover his mouth & nose. Heat and smoke rise, the people most at risk in a burning building are those on the top floor.

Kupo was a light sleeper, always had been. His heightened senses made it hard to not be one. At 4 o'clock in the morning, around the time Kupo would wake up normally on a training day, Kupo's sleep was even more fragile. So fragile that the mere click of the lock was enough to snap him into the world of the waking. Bleary-eyed and not yet fully lucid, the slow creeeeeeeak of the door was enough to trigger Kupo's fight, flight or freeze response. As his other senses kicked in, though, he calmed down a little. The weight of the smaller white fox who'd chosen to sleep on his chest for warmth and the softness of her fur were especially effective at this. Petting Opal, Kupo sat up slowly, bright green eyes opening in the dark that didn't impede them and scanning the dorm room for potential threats or intruders. The only person he saw, though, looked fairly harmless.
The light caught Kupo's snow-white hair & fur as he cocked his head to the side at this new presence, piping up in a sleepy voice. "H-hello? Who are you?" While he too appeared childlike and harmless, Kupo's fuzzy haze of attention was slowly focusing, and his muscles instinctively tensed in case he would need to defend himself or Jack. It'd be a little longer until Kupo's memory and common sense would fully engage and remind him of the fact that the unknown person in their dorm was most likely Shion Utsui, the new roommate on the notice they'd had a week in advance.
What Kupo could also hear was a stirring from the other side of the room, most likely either Lapis or Jack waking up. A new (and first) conscious thought passed his mind then, kicking the trained de-escalator into focus. Oh, it'd probably be bad if Lapis responded to this violently, what can I do about that? Putting Opal down gently, though not slowly enough to prevent her waking too, Kupo got up from his bed and took a couple steps towards Shion. His normal friendly demeanour took over then, tail swaying behind him. "Hi! Don't think we were expecting anyone this early?" His voice was just loud enough to carry over to Shion, not wanting to wake up anybody who was still asleep.

Jason Riviera, only son of the British Pro Hero 'Crystal King', was no stranger to intensive training. While he took regular rest days and knew his limits, a typical 'training day' for him would often begin at 4 or 5 in the morning. He could very often be found training something before sunrise (besides summer). This was the kind of cool spring morning Kupo had awoken to today. The morning up to now had been mostly spent doing some light combat style training with one of his classmates. As the day drew to its 10th hour though, Kupo had stopped to refill his medication. Seeing the time, he bid his 'sparring' partner farewell and made his way to a certain area of the PE grounds. As he arrived, Kupo was wearing a plain tea green tank top and black shorts along with the grey band around his left wrist. He had his usual excited/wonderstruck expression & energetic demeanour as he spotted Sadako, waving.
"Good morning, Ms. Gotoh! Thanks for setting up this one-to-one session for me, can't wait to get started!" Up close, the nature of Kupo's mutations could more easily be examined if one was trying to. His Quirk really was as simple as the brief description in his records made it out to be, but each physical facet of it was still unique. Adding to the fact that he was normally pretty expressive, Kupo's emotional state could also be easily gleaned from his tail, swaying quickly beind him. Kupo approached Sadako properly then, stopping with just enough distance to ensure personal space. He looked over to the obstacle course, then back to Sadako, expression subtly shifting to curiosity. "So, what are we going for today? A test of agility?" There was a notable tone of confidence to his voice, traversing in a 3D environment being one of his greatest strengths. "Or is it a surprise?"

"Thanks~" he chimed, sitting down as Miroru cleared a space for him. Initially taking a couple bites of his food, Kupo turned his attention back to the red fox as she seemed to hesitate on something. Looking up at her, Kupo could see either discomfort or scrutiny, though he wasn't quite sure of the cause. "Is... everything okay?" As Miroru spoke though, comprehension dawned on his face. "Oh, right! Yeah, I'm fine, thank you for your concern though. The low heat emission is just a factor of my Quirk, really not one I can do much about. I have a medical support device to help with that." Kupo held up his left wrist to demonstrate, showing off the dark grey band around it and pulling up his sleeve to show the cannula in his forearm. "It detects when I'm overheating and gives me medication to encourage extra heat loss, usually it's not a problem outside of summer & training."
He pulled his sleeve back down and looked at Miroru more closely. Not scrutinising, just taking in the details of her face as he talked. For some reason, she strongly reminded him of one of his sisters. Then, he seemed to realise something. "Is your Quirk something to do with radiation? Most people can't see that normally, and you specified infrared so I'm guessing it's not just that?... Oh! Forgot to introduce myself, silly me! I'm Jason Riviera, but my nickname's Kupo, if that's easier." He held his hand out to Miroru across the table, with the soft paw pads on his palms and fingertips very visible. A wide smile showed off larger-than-normal pointed canine teeth. It was fairly clear that his mutations were beyond aesthetic in nature.

Kupo's eyes went wide as the other student, who he now learned was named Hiroshi, explained the source of his aggression/reckless behaviour. From deep within Kupo, a well of sympathy sprung forth. He knew all too well the harm that could come from deriding people for behaviour their Quirks caused, having experienced some of this himself. Even moreso if the behaviour was aggressive. "Oh... I'm so sorry! I really shouldn't have been as harsh, I know how overwhelming it can feel sometimes, so I should be more mindful of that stuff. I mean, it might be dangerous to spar in general for you, but it's really good you're working on getting more control!" As always, he tried to shift the tone back towards something positive. He wouldn't elaborate on his own moments of losing control, nor his less desirable behaviours/tics he worked hard to learn to control, but the sentiment was there.
Seeing that the situation seemed to be resolved, Kupo remembered something with a squeak. "I forgot to introduce myself! I'm Jason Riviera, but call me Kupo if it's easier. Nice to meet both of you properly, Hiroshi-kun & Fujisaki-kun!" He was back to his normal cheery demeanour, tail swaying gently behind him as Kupo looked at the small display of his wrist device, then at his phone to confirm. "Wait, it's quarter to 4 already? Guess I was training for longer than I thought! I'm gonna go get some food, any of you guys wanna come? It's a great way to unwind~" He looked at the trio, putting the first aid kit back in his bag and zipping it up after dealing with Hiroshi's few cuts and scrapes.
"We were actually gonna meet up with some other friends after our match, but I'll see you in class, Kupo-chan!" With that, the two went to leave, and Kupo waved them off. He then turned to Farrin, smiling.
"Offer's still open to you! I'd love to get to know you better, Farrin."

It all happened very fast. One moment, he was sat with (who he considered) his friend. Hearing shouting in his direction, Kupo turned just fast enough to see Zenkai, more than twice his own height, barrelling towards him. The next moment, before he could say anything (or process that Zen appeared to be calling him a rat), he was hoisted multiple feet off the ground by the scruff of his neck. Kupo's body moved in an instant to respond to this attack, kicking Zen with as much force as he could muster, but this seemed to do next to nothing to the inebriated titan. He made a loud yelping noise, not dissimilar to a dog that's just been hit, and in the blink of an eye he was spun around at dizzying speed and launched off the yacht. Kupo very briefly lost consciousness from this, and with just a little more force, the 'golden boy' likely would've snapped his poor classmate's neck or even spine.
Regaining consciousness at the top of his arc of flight, Kupo had zero time to process anything that was happening beyond the fact that he was now falling quite the distance into the water. He adjusted his body mid-flight into a diving position. Then, Kupo hit the water... or he would've had Jack not been faster. The impact and subsequent launch in reverse was probably more shocking than the landing and subsequent swimming would've been. As they impacted the yacht's deck (the next moment he was aware of), Kupo quickly rolled off of/away from Jack instinctively to lessen the force of his fall. Jack... didn't land as gracefully. After a few seconds, Kupo sat up. In this brief reprieve, his mind now very suddenly snapped to attention. His conscious thought returned. He was breathing very deeply and deliberately, a measure taken to ground and calm himself. When Jack inquired as to his wellbeing with clear concern, he returned that same expression, though a soft smile quickly overtook his face. "Yeah... I'm okay, thank you Jack! I'm pretty lucky to not have seriously hurt myself. Though I should be asking you the same, looks like that fall hurt." He rose to his feet, heart still beating fast from adrenaline. "Though I understand why you did it, in hindsight it was a little silly to do the rescue like that when I probably would've been fine to swim the distance back."
Hearing Sumi's announcement, Kupo turned his full attention and watched with stars in his eyes as what could damn well have been some kind of ferry or cruise liner appeared out of the water. He noted what the objective of the game was, and seemed pretty excited (more for the activity than the money, which wasn't really a worry for him). He heard Jack's angry tone briefly and turned to him. "Hey, I said I'm okay! What that guy did was dumb and reckless, yeah, but we don't need to hand out punishment of anything. He's probably super drunk, not thinking straight. Please don't do anything dumb on my behalf, alright?" He took Jack's hand to be reassuring, and in the process saw the number that had appeeared on it! 11... wait, 11?! "Oh, oh! I'm number 11 too! We're on the same team, how lucky is that?"
Kupo was listening to his surroundings, always, and so the booming voice (like the one of the guy who threw him) yelling a name ('Zenkai Hatake') definitely caught his notice. Zenkai, huh? He'd have to remember that name, for sure.

Kupo reacted too late. He foolishly presumed that Bone-Blades wouldn't endanger others for the sake of 'finishing' (bashing his head against a wall in) a sparring match. Because of this error in judgement, or so Kupo thought, Farrin had gotten hurt. Not severe, but still quite the injury. If he'd acted quicker, he could've taken the guy down in mid-air, he was sure of it. So, seeing what did occur, Kupo sprang into action once again. "Oh no! One moment, I'll go get some bandages for you guys!" He crouched and leapt back towards the hill. From there, it was a few seconds at his pace before he retrieved his backpack (with a Pokémon-esque fluffy monster design) and bounded back towards the trio. He pulled a green box out of his bag, opening this to retrieve (bio-safe) antiseptic wipes, plasters (band-aids) and a roll of bandages.
He'd offer this to Farrin first, and if accepted would begin the quick process of cleaning and covering his cuts. While he did this, Kupo looked up to the other two combatants, looking heartbroken. "I think it was clear enough how that would've played out, right? Both of you would've kept repeating the same moves over and over, until the one with the less durable skull to keep bashing passed out. Neither of you, at any point, checked on the wellbeing of your opponent or tried to bring the match to a close. You-", he looked pointedly at Bone-Blades, "-didn't even stop, or reassess the situation when what could've been civilians came into your path. I'd expect better from future heroes, especially you Fukisaki, given what I heard of you in Ethics class." Another pointed look, the other way. But, as Kupo finished dressing what he could see of Farrin's cuts, his expression changed from one of sorrow, to one of hope. He began attending to Boy-Blue, who was also obviously cut-up. "But, it's alright! I know you guys can learn from this! I know you can be better. Heck, your actual fighting was super impressive for the most part. I'd love to train or spar with you guys some time!" The sentiment was genuine, evidenced by Kupo's beaming smile. He had quite the way with words and tugging on people's heartstrings when he wanted to. Like a beacon, radiating light & warmth around him.

Kupo listened attentively as Thea explained what her training actually was. He nodded in agreement at Thea's observation. "Yeah, it's amazing how strong some of the people in our year are. My twin sister is like that, way tougher than me. Heck, you're definitely a lot tougher than me, too. Like I said, paper & fluff~" That prompted another giggle, smile becoming softer as Kupo's eyes were cast briefly downward. "I wish I could dull my senses...", he muttered under his breath. What could be read as a content expression quickly turned to shock, as Thea punched the tree.
The lack of warning, hesitance or seemingly any reaction to the impact was what caused most of his reaction, as Kupo's eyes went wide for a couple seconds. It looked like he was about to say something, but he quickly stopped himself. Returning quickly to his normal wonderstruck demeanour, Kupo simply nodded at Thea's next comment. Sparring was something of a cultural thing that had developed around especially students of Heroics, but he related to not wanting to participate in that. Half of the reason he had sparred himself from such a young age was to familiarise himself with the feeling of combat without the actual danger of a patrol, even if he himself wouldn't be an especially combat-focused Hero. It was what she said afterwards that prompted a response. "Thanks for the encouragement! It's less about what people think of me and more about personal comfort, though. Most people will respond positively to me, but sometimes people forget consent when they see something that looks like a kid or puppy." Again, he didn't seem particularly disheartened by this, but a keen eye like Thea's may be able to spot the hints of discomfort or unpleasant recollection.
His next reaction was definitely positive, though. Not cynical enough to presume a lie and not keen enough to read it, Kupo's face lit up at what would otherwise seem like a small gesture/confirmation. "Thanks! That means a lot!" His tail, which Thea had been observing, got faster. It could almost be described as wagging, now. The question about his Quirk was one that he took in stride, standing up from his (cross-legged) sitting position to properly illustrate his points. "Yep! I'm a mutant, through-and-through. My Quirk's also pretty obvious, you could probably guess most things about it from looking at me. Sensitive hearing, resistance to the cold. What may not be obvious, though-" He leaped up with little apparent effort, landing gracefully on a branch in the tree above Thea. "-is this part! I have really strong legs, so I can jump far and kick hard. Not as flashy as an Emitter, but it's mine." He hopped back down with a soft thud on landing and sat back down. "Oh, and who's your friend?" Hearing of another vulpine student, Kupo spotted a chance to maybe make another friend and training partner, if he could find them.
