Masao was on her way to the common kitchen when an odd sound passed her ear. A bird singing? No, it was much rougher, maybe even a little grating. Could it be that a villain had snuck into the school and was using a quirk to ruin the perfectly fine ambience of the dormitories? It was unlikely given the defenses UAU had at its disposal, but you never knew. Ready to face whatever was awaiting her in the kitchen, Masao increased her walking pace, going a little faster until she came to a halt and just... Stared in silence. She didn't know that Junsuina Kanjo was one to sing, especially not so poorly. Actually up close the singing wasn't so bad, doubly so when you took into account just how bad the kitchen looked, making her block out everything else as she looked around in disbelief. How was it possible to trash the kitchen so much while cooking? She didn't know much about Jun's background, but it was safe to assume they weren't raised remotely the same way from how uncouth this whole situation was. She took a deep breath before raising her voice. ''Kanjo-san.'' She started, hoping to get her attention, finally opening her eyes when her singing ceased. ''I see that you two was thinking of fixing a meal for yourself. A rather nice-looking one I might add.'' The one saving grace Jun had right now, her plate of food actually looked really good. ''I wish I could say the same for your surroundings.'' She wasn't going to attack her singing. It was already embarrassing enough that she had been caught in the middle of it, and Jun wasn't named Ylva so there was no need to go for the kill. ''I don't see you in the kitchen often. Did you decide to skip the cafeteria food today?'' Without so much as a second thought to what she was doing Masao started cleaning up Jun's mess, but still looked her way when she asked her question. junsuina

A 2v2. It would be a test, not of her skills as a weaponsmith, but as a fighter. She was nowhere near as strong as the average hero course student and she knew it. After all, she spent most of her time locked away in her workshop. Even so, she took on a double workload. She participated in active training assignments, most recently the Hostage Rescue Simulation. All so she could become not just a great support hero, but a great hero overall. Someone worthy of the name of Paragon and the armor she had inherited. The match here today was going to be a culmination of her training. To see how far she had left to climb before she reached the top. There was a very real chance that she was going to crash and burn, especially considering their opponents. Nevertheless, if she was going to lose, she was happy to do so alongside someone else with lofty goals even more ambitious than her own. During the Hostage Rescue Simulation he had asked her not to use excessive violence. In an exercise focusing on rescuing civilians, he wasn't just worried about the civilians, but their captors too. It had given her a lot to think about, and she was happy to work alongside him once more. ''I heard you changed your hero name. Should I call you by your new name for the duration of this fight?'' Even though she was nervous it hardly showed on her. Stoic as always, Masao knew that failure here no matter what, still wasn't the end. Worst case scenario, they both lost horribly and she could use that as fuel to become even better for next year. She had already more than showed her worth as a manufacturer. If anything, she was more concerned about how Michael came across to the audience. This was his first year to really prove himself, and she already felt he had the makings of a great hero. He just needed to convince all the big heads running hero agencies of that too. ''As you have no doubt guessed, Riis-san will be of great trouble to us with her quirk. She prefers to attack from a distance while the both of us specialize in close quarters combat. Hada-senpai is nothing short of a genius so far as manufacturing goes, but I have yet to see his prowess in combat myself. It would be wise for us to be wary of Riis-san, but not to underestimate Hada-senpai either.'' Although she normally wouldn't, she put a hand on Michael's shoulder to reassure him. ''Do your best, and don't compromise on your ideals.'' She said firmly, ''they make you who you are. Being yourself is far more important than winning.'' With that she headed up to the ring and prepared herself for a fight. Ylva RiisSamaritanKei Hada

''Presumptuous she says. Riis-san, need I remind you of your past track record at Shiketsu? Calling your ability into question is entirely justified. That you seem to contest this point shows how truly delusional you are.'' She couldn't tell if Ylva stretching beforehand was because she was going to get serious, or just lulling them all into thinking she was, only to ruin it as soon as the game began. Gen's comment earned him a silent glare. ''Kurokami-san, that you would infer such a dynamic between me and Riis-san from our interactions is entirely revolting, and speaks volumes about what you lack to become a hero.'' Jun's comment earned her a glare from Masao too. Despite remaining stoic, Gen's comment had very clearly gotten to her. She would rather redo all of her second year than go through this exercise with a band of misfits. That being said, once Gen actually started talking about a game plan and started making sense she did take a step back and remain quiet. She only interjected once to correct him. ''Ando.'' She said firmly, but didn't press the point. Despite being so good at taking the bait, she knew better than to try to argue with people like Gen and Ylva about not calling her nicknames. While she would love to argue that she was more than just muscle, the truth was that had become her niche within this group. Gen could replace her with his All For One, but that presumably left him unable to sabotage other teams. Stepping up she also made sure to touch the ball and have her signature registered. ''I agree with Kanjo-san. It would be most beneficial that we get this over with now. Let's focus on defending our 'bomb' and not overcomplicate things. Think you two could manage that?'' Once again she addressed Gen and Ylva specifically. Taking a page out of Ylva's book for once, she decided to stretch her arms and legs while they still had the time. Kurokami GenjunsuinaYlva Riis

Teaming up with Ylva, Gen and Junsuina? Sometimes she really did feel like she had somehow offended the principal of the school personally, and this was their way of getting back at her. All of her teammates were problems in their own right, some more than others. Since this whole exercise was based on trust she knew she was shit out of luck. Ylva wanted to win and become a strong hero, she knew that much, but there was also no guarantee she wouldn't throw this exercise just to get back at her. Gen was an absolute troll if his display at the hero introductions was anything to go by, so she didn't trust him either. Jun she wasn't all too familiar with herself, but she knew the girl was trouble in her own way. It was clear as day, she was surrounded by idiots on all sides. ''If we cannot simply throw the potato, then it would be beneficial for us to stick together and communicate closely. While I do not know what the obstacle course up ahead has in store for us, I'd wager our quirks will be able to help us at different points along the field. So, our pattern is going to be trusting one another and reading the context of our exchange correctly. That means putting personal feelings aside and carrying our weight.'' She immediately didn't follow her own advice when she looked at Ylva and Gen, insinuating that they were going to be the two biggest problems for their team dynamic. Crossing her arms, she continued ''Make a mockery of this exercise if you must, but your banal and childish attempts to compromise the integrity of the games will follow you well into your prospective hero careers.'' She took a step forward and got herself ready for the exercise. Seeing as she already felt negatively towards two of her teammates, Ylva and Gen, things didn't look great for them. ''I have nothing else to say. Do your part for the team, or do us all a favor and forfeit right now.''Kurokami GenjunsuinaYlva Riis

Their roles had been laid out perfectly. By virtue of their quirks, Emilia and her were distractions, while Michael saw to rescuing the hostages directly. Right now what that meant was she needed to make sure she took as much attention away from him as possible, letting her armor do what it did best as she focused on fighting in a way that aligned with her teammate's perspective. No excessive violence. While it might be a daring, or even failing strategy in the real world she made sure to uphold her end of it. In a way, it was an exercise for her too. Some criminals are much more frail than one might think, and while violence would work against them, some criminals are also not deserving of excessive amounts of it. Knowing and being able to control one's strength was paramount, especially for someone looking to become the next Paragon. Trusting fully in both Lodestar and Mr. Inflatable, she couldn't help but become a little reckless, her aggressive altruism pushing her to make as much of a scene as possible to aid her allies at her own expense. It did not matter what happened to her as long as the civilians and her allies were saved. It was a glaring flaw in how she operated, but one she wasn't self-aware enough to fix. ''Lay down your arms and come quietly. If you don't then I cannot vouch for your safety, villains.'' The glow on her armor was dying down, but if all they had to fire at her was rubber bullets then she was almost invincible on her own. TL;DR: Masao continues to run distraction, hoping it can help both Michael, the hostages and Emi escape safely. Yanai HebiruSamaritanEmilia HallKei Hada

''Indeed, that seems like the most optimal strategy.'' She agreed with Emi. Michael had kind of caught her by surprise. She had expected him to be a model hero student, as with so many others, but she hadn't expected him to be so noble and idealistic as to suggest a more pacifist approach. She wasn't bothered by it, if anything, it would be a welcome challenge and something she would fully adhere to. ''If that is your wish, Mr. Inflatable, then I will do my utmost to ensure that no unnecessary harm befalls our opponents. Lodestar, on your signal.'' She was more than prepared to take flight, especially since in the event that she had to fall out of the sky, her armor could help protect her. Michael would most likely be fine too given his quirk's properties. Once they took flight she was ready to activate her quirk at a moment's notice, either once the guards started shooting at them, or once they needed to drop down near the hostages, or somewhere in the middle of the base to make their search easier. ''It's time. I'll see you on the other side, Mr. Inflatable.'' She let go as she let herself drop down once they made it past the containers, transforming into her suit of armor midair, causing another bright flash to go off, like someone had thrown a flashbang grenade. Landing with a heavy thud, her armor absorbed the brunt of the falling damage as the woman that was once Masao had been replaced with a knight in shining armor, complete with a helmet that concealed her appearance. With this overly dramatic entrance she had become Paragon. Hoping to make the infiltration easier for Michael, she immediately charged for the nearest guards, but rather than engage them with punches or kicks, she instead focused on trying to disarm or grapple them. TL;DR: Masao goes along with the plan, decides to activate her quirk once they float past the containers and drop down to cause more disruption against the guards, hoping to give Michael the opportunity to reach the hostages faster. She panted as she fell down to one knee. How many had they been trying to take on this monster? She hadn't been able to keep count, but it felt as if tens of students alongside her had tried to match Stronghold's prowess. Regrettably, their efforts were futile. Stronghold was a pro hero in every sense of the word. Surrounding her and Masao were all the other students that had failed to capture her, Masao could feel her armor failing, and yet, it looked as if the 'villain' had barely broken a sweat. She had felt confident heading into this training exercise, but this woman had taught her just how far she had left to go, just how much she needed to improve to be deserving of the title of Paragon. ''Not so fast, villain.'' She pushed herself back up to her feet with some effort. She may not be worthy of her given hero name yet, but she could still act the way Paragon would. That is, hold out against the enemy, so that her allies may be spared of the onslaught they could bring. ''All this fighting and you barely left a scratch on my armor, do you think me out of the battle simply because you got a few lucky hits in? I can still fight, and I will apprehend you here!'' She was bluffing completely. Her armor was dented and damaged beyond belief, and she could feel her mind slipping. One more punch was probably all she could take, but that was still one more punch directed at her and not someone else. ''So what will it be? Are you going to meet your maker by my hands, or slip away into the shadows like a coward?''Anya Nigiri

Endearment. Yeah right. There was no endearment between them, Ylva had been nothing but hostile since day one and no matter which approach she took, things just didn't get better. Ylva wasn't just a menace, she was an active threat to society and the worst part was, if she wasn't keeping an eye on her then who would? Could she trust any other student to take over in her stead? Someone who wouldn't compromise on their morals when met with a wolf in sheep's clothing? ''And you can think that all you want, but heroes aren't free from public scrutiny. What you are experiencing now is but a fraction of what actual heroes have to be able to handle.'' Like talking to a wall. A wall consisting of nothing but ice, personality as cold as her feelings. At this rate, was Ylva ever going to become a presentable and proper hero? She doubted it. She undeniably had skill, even Masao could see that, but what she more than made up for in power she lacked in people skills and empathy. She breathed a small sigh of relief when Ylva destroyed the last monster of this area. That meant they could both escort these civilians back and finally get out of here- Wait. Was she seriously planning on continuing? ''Riis-san! You are not continuing this senseless rampage!'' She stood her ground, but she didn't have the time to argue with her roommate when the civilians were right there. Arguing any further and she could risk all their lives. Thus, she finally backed down. ''I'll be delivering my report to the school when I get back. I strongly advice you do the same.''Then, with civilians in tow, she left Ylva to her own devices. ''Is that so? I had heard about the escapades of one Lodestar beforehand. Functionally, our quirks are similar after all. However, I was not aware that you were roommates with Helt-san.'' She nodded solemnly when Emilia mentioned that Freja should be in this exercise. ''Indeed, she signed up like the rest of us, though I have yet to run into her myself.'' Just like she had assumed her and Emilia's quirks were very similar, which made her feel all the more relieved when Michael talked about his powers. ''I see. In other words, that means you are the most versatile of the three of us if we're just talking about the applications of our powers.'' She looked at the both of them, as intense as ever, though that was hardly a surprise when it came to Masao Ando. ''I will personally see to it that no villains do you harm during this incursion, and in turn I will place my life in your hands too.'' She bowed her head proudly, before turning to the matter at hand. Sneaking through the streets of Ground Beta was no easy feat, especially not with so many patrols about, and yet... Somehow they managed just fine. ''Mr. Inflatable, may I ask, how proficient is your floating properties?'' She kept her voice low as they approached the center. ''If we are to make a plan and execute it, now is the opportune time to speak your mind.'' Her own plan? It was remarkably simple, but it depended on a few factors. ''I propose we toss this gentleman here.'' She said to Emilia while pointing at Michael. ''Our quirks are more suited for rabble-rousing than stealth. Either one, or both of us could serve as a distraction while Mr. Inflatable floats in from the top.'' Naturally, if their enemies were smarter they wouldn't send the entire force to deal with just Emilia or Masao. The both of them? Perhaps, but it still ran the risk of leaving Michael outnumbered on his own. She left room for the others to speak too, more interested in supporting their ideas than going with her reckless own. It wasn't until she actually saw the center blocks that she reconsidered her plan. ''These villains really aren't holding back on us. We had better make haste, lest the hostages will get liquidated in cold blood.'' She looked to her allies in arms. ''Come what may, you have my support.'' And she was true to her word. Whether they stuck to stealth, a mixture of stealth and combat, or just charged straight into enemy lines, Masao understood that one shouldn't halfass anything. No matter what she was going to commit fully to their next course of action. Yanai HebiruKei HadaSamaritanEmilia Hall

When Yuki Onna gave them their sign to move out Masao took the lead walking near the front of their newly formed Team C. She wasn't all too familiar with the powers her fellow students possessed and thus could only trust her own. Namely, that she was able to don a durable armor that could help her serve as a shield for the group once things got intense. Speaking of intense, Masao didn't let up one bit despite this just being a hostage rescue simulation. Serious as always, she was treating this like the real deal. ''There's no telling what harm could befall the hostages while we are out here. Moving with haste, while avoiding unnecessary skirmishes should be our utmost priority.'' For that exact reason she hadn't activated her quirk yet. Heavy plate armor like hers would be a dead giveaway and frankly terrible for stealth operations in an urban setting. ''Put simply,'' She kept an eye out as they moved, but made sure to look at her fellow heroes too. ''My quirk makes me stronger and tougher, but I cannot use it quietly. In other words, I will only activate my quirk when we are spotted as a last resort, or when we are ready to make our move. ''Lodestar, I have heard about you from your roommate, but I do not know what your power is.'' She then looked at Michael. ''Mr. Inflatable, excuse my crudeness, but is it right to believe your power has to do with balloons?'' Heck, between the name Mr. Inflatable and Michael's balloon head it was practically staring her right in the face, but that didn't mean she was just going to make assumptions and not want to hear from the man himself. Hearing Khepri's point of view wasn't only interesting because of how... Eccentric they were, but hearing their reasoning for becoming a hero was just as intriguing due to how atypical they were for a hero student. No offense against other hero applicants, but Masao had observed a lot of commonalities between them. Traits you see go again and again in the different students. It took a certain mindset to become a hero and the desired qualities of any given hero served to narrow the pool of potential heroes somewhat. It made sense to her. After all, why wouldn't you want a combat or capture hero that is brave and competitive? How about a support student who knows their stuff and is either pragmatic or inventive? What made Khepri so interesting was, well... Everything they were. While Khepri pondered her question, Masao turned her attention back to the work at hand. Fixing up these spoons? She would make short work of a task like this and still produce a result that was of high quality. Her honor as a member of the Ando family was on the line after all. It wasn't until they responded that she looked up and almost laughed, but to see her laugh was a rarity. There was even a rumor floating around that she was incapable of laughing because of her quirk. ''An active effort I see. As for myself, it is due to my quirk and my family name. Everyone in my family works in the hero business. I inherited the armor, so that was what was expected of me too. Of course I have my own reasons as well, I'm not just some mindless drone that follows everything her parents tell her to.''There was a pause as she returned to her work, then a few seconds later she spoke up again. ''Your spoons will be done soon, Mafdet-san. I hope you find their new condition satisfactory.''Mafdet Khepri

''Whether it is easy or hard to remember is hardly the point. It's about basic respect. Let me remind you, Riis-san, that your name is foreign to me too. Yet I don't stoop to your level and come up with petty nicknames.'' It was absolutely getting under her skin in every way Ylva wanted and intended. Perhaps that was part of why she loathed this woman so much. Somehow, they had barely even known each other for a month, but she knew how to press her buttons and get under her skin. Usually she didn't let anyone get that close to her. Show any signs of weakness or hesitation. Was she starting to slip? Was Ylva truly driving her mad? ''And that is precisely why you exhibit the response from others that you do.'' She punctuated harshly. It wasn't really a secret that Ylva was a strong personality, and you'd have to look hard within the student body to find anyone that actually got along well with the girl, or so Andy wagered. ''You're unbelievable..'' Her expression was hidden by her armor's helmet, but the contempt in her tone was clear as day. Turning on her heels she sprinted towards a nearby civilian and checked up on them. Thankfully they weren't injured, but just scared of the whole situation. With some quick, rehearsed reassurance she sent the civilian on their way towards the shelter before rushing towards someone that was unconscious and bleeding from their head. Undoing her armor on her right arm for a split second, she tore part of her own clothes to act as makeshift bandage to help stop some of the bleeding momentarily. ''How much longer until these things are eradicated, Riis-san?'' She called out. She hated her roommate, but she had to put that aside when lives were at risk. Ylva Riis

''Really? I'm touched. And it's still Masao Ando.'' She was doing it deliberately, she knew she was. Ylva wasn't so bad at Japanese that she couldn't pronounce her name right, she was just doing it deliberately to get to her and the worst part was it was working. ''I'm sure they did. So you wouldn't exactly call yourself a model student?'' It was almost like the real battle was actually their back and forth and not whatever monsters were descending on them as they made their way through Tokyo Bay. Ylva beat her to the punch, or rather, stomp as she shattered the frozen creature. It wasn't evident at first, but the girls soon came to realize they had made a mistake when that wasn't the end of the fight. ''As a hero course student you're used to situations like this, are you not?'' Seeing the much smaller army of shrimps, Masao manifested a helmet to go over her head to protect her face and long hair more closely. It also altered her voice to sound more androgynous than it already was. ''Then pray tell, what is your plan? Walk around the bay until you get bored? If that's all that is on our to-do list, may I suggest looking out for civilians and making sure they're safe along the way? It's the only way we can possibly salvage this disastrous walk of yours into something meaningful.'' She got between Ylva and the shrimps and took the first charge, making sure to draw as much attention to herself as she could to protect her ice cold jailer. Ylva Riis
