Yup, definitely a new student. She wasn't the first to arrive after the start of the semester. Even after the first few weeks of classes, new students continued to pour into UAU. That's what happened when youngins from around the globe fought their way, both physically through practical exams and academically through written testing, to make it here.
"Glad ta' be o' service," he offered jokingly. "A few o' those categories dun' seem mutually exclusive. Teenager, though legally an adult, n' a student. Yup, that's me' answer."
Eighteen was the age of adulthood in Japan so by that definition he was an adult man, though technically also still a teenager. And, well, he was definitely a student. By Freja's words, one of the best in their class. He would accept that title, graciously of course.
"N' the names Farrin, Farrin O'Rourke. How 'bout yerself, lass?"
Clearly, she was a student too. A teacher wouldn't be dropping their stuff off at the dorm. Most had their own homes in the city, and those that did live on campus had their housing on the opposite side of campus from Heights Alliance. Unless... the luggage being unloaded from the truck belonged to someone else entirely, but there wasn't a soul in sight.

Farrin hadn't run any exercises with Lone Wolf yet. Most of his classes were taught by a hero that went by SuperNova, a reputable fire quirk user. But, where SuperNova's simulations usually saw freshmen matched together, this exercise appeared to be a mix of students from all grades and levels. Additionally, outside of sparring with some of the other educators, most of his practical training involved bomb threats and hostage situations. While explosives both large and small were employed by Lone Wolf, the actual objective was to take the teacher in. To that end, Farrin hadn't made much progress yet though he hadn't been shot yet either.
Farrin knelt at the corner of an alleyway. Grounds Beta was massive. It wouldn't be easy to pin down the hero educator's position without some information to go off of. Unfortunately, most of the students were spread out, attempting a wide-net approach. The problem with such methodology lay in a lack of communication or intel retrieval. If they were paired up into teams, when one member went down, the others could triangulate the gunner's rough position. That was not the case here.
So, Farrin took it one step at a time. He could speed through the city like no one else, but with mine bombs planted throughout their theater of war, that was a risk. He relied on Temporal Resonance, something of a danger sense, to warn him of nearby explosives, but that meant moving slowly. Farrin leaned around the corner, eyeing the building tops. He wasn't shot yet.
I need ta get up high.
If Lone Wolf was focused on the streets, he might not expect to be attacked from along the rooftops. It would also be infinitely easier to spot him, or at least track the sound of the gunfire, from up high. That was it, the makings of a plan.

If her boost could work in conjunction with Chronokinesis, what speeds might Farrin achieve then? He was more than curious. Only one way to find out.
Farrin was about to fire up his quirk and enter his temporal state when Tatsuko made that final comment. Okay, so he had two questions now. Why wouldn't people want to be on the receiving end of her quirk? The needle? If their peers were afraid of a little pinprick, they were in for a rude awakening beyond UA's walls. Nobody that graduated from this academy, or at least the heroics department students, would be venturing out into the world without taking some nasty damage. As fast as Farrin was, even he couldn't dodge all the dangers out there. Eventually, he was going to get hit - hard. It was a foregone conclusion. Inevitable. There was a reason the life expectancy was so low for heroes. Farrin intended to live a nice long life with Sada. Retire one day with a family, but he knew that even if he did make it, it wouldn't be without his fair share of injuries.
"N' why might that be?" He asked, looking for confirmation.
He really hoped it had nothing to do with the needle. The students here were being blasted by villain bots on the daily. If they couldn't face a little trypanophobia, they weren't going to last long in this career.

If some villain had snuck inside just to drug Farrin, hero society as a whole was facing far larger problems. She was a peer, a classmate, and one that hadn't earned his ire or suspicion. That would suffice for now in earning her some trust.
He was acutely aware that she had avoided answering his question in full. He took no offense. Many among the student body avoided revealing their quirks until necessary. Information was a valuable commodity. Why hand it out for free?
With the prick at his shoulder, Farrin felt an electrical jolt shoot through his veins. It wasn't the same sort as Chronokinesis. This felt almost literally like an electrical current, and he had become the living circuitry through which it ran.
Farrin backpedaled two steps, all the while his eyes were locked on his opening palms. He flexed his fingers, then gripped them into tightly balled fists, then flexed them again.
"Now this is peculiar," he commented, staring down still as his body moved with a familiar speed.
It wasn't quite on the level of Chronokinesis, but it was growing more and more similar by the second. The world did in fact come to slow by some measure, which meant it had an effect on the signals traveling through his body and, therefore, his mind and reaction time. With the paces taken away from Tatsuko, Farrin took on his fighting form and began to swing. Chronokinesis's weight was still there, but the load had been lightened.
"Hm, that is interestin," he said, continuing a combo against an imaginary opponent. "Still seein that strain?" He felt it still, his body being held back, but by far less a degree. It was oddly satisfying moving faster without needing to kick up Chronokinesis. He wouldn't have traded his quirk for any other, but it was undoubtedly tiring afterward. If he could move like this on the daily, without relying on his temporal state - well, what a boon it would be.

Farrin danced between the streams of stun rounds meant to remove him from play. A turn of his wrist and a lightly tinted field of emerald sprung to life before him. Dozens, maybe hundreds, of stun rounds entered the field, then slowed to a crawl. Chronokinesis didn't only speed him up, it let him slow other things down.
Farrin lunged over the railing and back down to the lobby's first floor. When the temporal deceleration field above faded, the rounds peppered the wall behind his last position, shattering window glass and marble walls. The spire looked like it was supposed to be a fancy office building. Just how much was it going to cost UA to repair the place?
Farrin discarded the thought, charging the last of the larger villain bots that populated the lobby. The other small fries above were slow to realign their weapons. Farrin had a few seconds still, which felt like minutes in his time-turned mind.
The hero-student slid under the bot this time, thrusting his hand up through the metal, and repeating his earlier maneuver. He grabbed at wiring and anything else that felt important, tearing it out of the machine's gut. Only, this time, the villain bot wouldn't be going down without a fight. Resigned to its fate, the machine purposefully collapse. Any other student might have been crushed. Farrin, however, scurried into a crawl that left only his leg pinned.
The rest of the thugs were taking aim though, nearly on target now. Farrin threw up another temporal deceleration field, this one wide and tall, which would remain anchored in place for a strong twenty or so seconds before disappearing. That would give him some protection. Still, his leg was stuck from the knee down, the weight of the machine crushing down on it. It didn't hurt so much as frustrate. Pain was not unfamiliar company, but this thing was cumbersome. He crossed his fingers, metaphorically, while latching onto the machine physically, and started pushing.

One moment, Sada was there. Standing. Smiling. Existing. Being her most perfect self and lighting up his life with the simple act of breathing. She was his everything. His reason. His heart. Without her, what was the point? And therein lied the problem perhaps. His greatest strength came hand in hand with his most obvious weakness. Losing her.
She was there. Right there in front of him. Then she was gone. Shadows crept from the dark of a pitch black sea, invaded the edges of her form, then consumed her. Yes, she was there, then she was gone.
Farrin heart hadn't sank, it exploded. "NO!" Farrin, shouted defiance into the infinite black, his hand wrenched forward, broken from the bond he could no see.
The entity's eyes appeared once more. Farrin could feel its singular focus, an oppressive aura that weighed the world several times over, bombarding his body from all sides. Invisible chains latched onto his ankles, wrists, his throat, all pulled taut, but Farrin pressed forward. Self-preservation made for meager motivation when Sada was on the line. The entity was smart not to reveal what it was that might take her, but even it, with its apparent omniscience, had made a mistake. It threatened his Sada - there wasn't a power in all of existence that might hold Farrin back when his Sada was in harms way.
The eyes dissipated, then there was a form. A body. Something Farrin could reach grab onto. Something. No. Someone, he could strangle. Someone he could break. Fissures tore through the timescape's many threads and the currents grew angry. Something stood in defiance of time's forward march, and time would not abide such abnormalities. Farrin hadn't seen but felt the turn of the wrist. It was not his own. And, suddenly, the fissures receded. Temporal cords that represented entire times waved through the air and then settled, tying themselves back together.
"Your friend cause quite a bit of destruction. It's never easy mending the damage. One might argue you and he are the true villains. Instead, you label us with such simplistic terms, when our goals anchor all of reality to a greatness these trivial lives and minds could never understand."
Greatness seemingly brought about by the death of the innocent, his friends, and even the shattering of time.
"As I said, that was not our doing. That one is entirely on you and your ilk."
When the web receded, the darkness of the sea was shone away, and once more they were on an earthly plane. A pale corpse lay strewn, broken, and bloodied across the ground. His sacrifice meant nothing this time. Whatever the plan was, it had failed. Would fail this time. Farirn didn't understand what the plan even was, only that he had a part in it, and that it could only work once - it had, but now it would never work again. The looming threat they would soon face had to be dealt with once and for all.
Farrin's soul sank. His gut was knotted, then torn from his gut. His heart beat a million miles a second. He hardly knew these people, but their passing felt like daggers in his back, his brain, his very core. And still, it wasn't over.

Farrin started at the sound of Miroru's voice, then promptly fell again. He wouldn't blame her for the disruption. Villains loved to monologue. If he couldn't maintain focus while others were speaking, the technique was doomed to fail. Besides, his crash count was long lost. What was one more to infinity?
Chronokinesis died down, Farrin's gaze losing its glow and returning to a ruby stare. He scratched at the back of his head, trailing the revealed Miroru's movement. She was doing it. She was air-stepping. Sky walking, as she labeled it. It was the superior name, nearly matching the main family of an old and unquestionably amazing series of sci-fi movies. Nomenclature aside, how the hell was she doing that?
"Eh, somethin like that," he started, "well, yeah, basically that."
Farrin pushed off the ground and stood his height, dusting himself off again. It was a fruitless effort at this point. He had been putting the uniform through its paces all day. Covered in dirt, and grass, and slightly tattered, he would have to have it replaced or repaired later.
"I'm usin those fields ta' slow the air below me' feet to such extents that it's almost unmovin. Almost makes the air inta a solid that I can step off of. Problem is, it requires a lot o' focus ta' slow somethin' down that much n' tryin ta' keep me balance at the same time is provin difficult. The field is collapsin a tad too early n' so I keep fallin."

He had settled on a nickname "The Dojo" for his little training space. Sada had a few back-to-back classes while Farrin was free for a few hours. Free time without Sada meant time spent running drills and testing himself. The gravelly training fields and running tracks were awash with enthusiasm and energy. Students honing their bodies, skills, and abilities. Good. They would need it. There was a definitive lack of challenge from most of the time-turner's peers.
The freshman dropped from his standing position onto his butt, sitting now, watching over the fields. Sweat rolled down from his mane over his brow and neck. He didn't need a sparring or workout partner to work up a sweat. Roiled power pushed through the air with his every punch just a few moments prior. He had earned himself a short break.
A welcome breeze kicked up, whisking away a few beads of sweat and casting them into the grass. Food. That's what he was missing. Some food. His hunger was confirmed by the comical growl of his stomach. Yup, it was nearly time for lunch.
"But what time we lookin' at exactly?" He muttered, digging out his pocket watch.
Half past three. His legs protested against the thought of movement, but he had grown quite accustomed to denying them rest. Still, he would sit for another few minutes watching the training field. He wasn't exactly sure what he was looking for, only that it had to be here somewhere. A few nights prior, he experiences a sifting dream like no other. He saw through time and found something best described as an entity beyond even his wildest imagination. It was clear his Chronokinetic abilities, no matter how much progress he made in the past four years, were not up to snuff. He had to become stronger, which meant more training. Today's training, however, was of another kind.
Farrin wouldn't be taking swings at villain bots or robotic dummies, nor dancing with the shadows while practicing his boxing. What he needed was a firmer understanding of time, quirks, and, well, strategy. The latter was more a personal preference, but studying the warriors and cultures of the past couldn't hurt to improve his future. The three hundred Spartans had to be doing something right to fight off the thousands that comprised Xerxes' army, even if it was only for three days. They might not have possessed quirks, but those were still quite some odds to beat. The same sort of odds it appeared Farrin would soon face.
The former two subjects, however, were imperative. Even in the modern era, the study of time remained firmly under the umbrella of theoretical physics. Farrin was more of a B student than anything, but he had to broaden his horizons, to wrap his head around the many possibilities that existed in regards to time's flow. If there were any powerful time quirks before Chronokinesis emerged, he also needed to study up on those, hence the quirkology books he was on the hunt for. The only problem was, again, he didn't actually know what books he was looking for - only that they had to exist. So, the time turner, continued up and down the old, silent aisles, eyes shifting from one title to the next ins search of his hidden gems.

His eyes burned with the golden clock dials of his quirk's full strength. Pearlescent wisps of temporal flame burned in and out of existence around him, accompanied only by the emerald crackle of lightning-like energy and the blur of his every move. Then, despite the dramatic display of his Chronokinetic might, he fell on his arse. Hard.
"Oi, feckin' hell!" He cursed under breath.
Luckily, his landing was padded by the grass of his hill, the Dojo, rather than the rest of the training field's gravel. He had crashed quite a few times already, and by the looks of it, he would do so several more times before making any modicum of progress. Shadowboxing, track running, weight training, all of it was far more entertaining than what he was going for today, but should today's training bear fruit, he might be able to fly. Well, not really... sort of.
The time-turner picked himself up and dusted himself off, slapping the dirt off his gym attire. Then he was at it again. He leaped up as high as he could. Below his boot a one-foot by one-foot tile of nearly translucent emerald power formed, slowing the air to a crawl, even the minuscule amounts that passed through remained nearly stilled for the slightest moment. It was on that minute slab of hyper decelerated air that he kicked off of - or tried to. The field collapsed, and again the time turner fell on his bum.
"Son uv a!" He shouted this time.
If he could only keep his balance while focusing on the fields simultaneously, the boons might be immeasurable. It would be like running through the very air... if he succeeded. Questionable at best, but he wasn't stopping now. So again, Farrin took to the sky. And again, he crashed. It was going to be a long day. A building erupted in an explosive cacophony that blinded the entire ward. Only rubble, filth, and feathers smeared in blood remained. The hand splayed out from beneath the debris was as familiar as the scene that played before him. It was like something seen in another life.
The world went dark for all of a moment, when it reappeared there was another hand, this one hanging from beside a chair that obscured the rest of the figure. Whoever it was, they were watching the news play out - except it was between several countries. Scenes of heroes fallen in failed attempts to defend their countries. The head behind the char slumped aside Long, dark brown hair, and as the chair swiveled he saw her face - glassy blue eyes devoid of life.
Another flicker in the dark, but when the world grows bright it's with the intensity of a star. A battle between monsters, titans tearing into each other. Tooth, fang, claw, and fist tearing flesh from bone and searing their marks into the world. It ends with nothing short of a dark, smoky mushroom reaching for the skies. These battle leaves no remains. No rubble. Not even ash. He was there, fighting an impossible fight, then he was gone.
Farrin watched in awe, his eyes wide with what played out before him. He knew these people. He'd seen these events. They looked different then, but there was no mistake, these were the same people - just of another time. And, despite the turning in his gut, the show wasn't over yet. The temporal seas grew dark, then shattered as the next premonition played.

 Coinciding with the Ikigai Haru Matsuri will be the annual Murdah Ball Blitz! A game celebrated as one of the up-and-coming sports in this new quirked-up world! The Murdah Ball Blitz is a series of competitive games to be played between two teams where the only objective is to score a ball into the enemy team's goal using one's quirk. Quirks cannot be used to directly harm the opposition, but otherwise, it's anything goes! Matches will be played throughout the day with a final set of matches taking place in the Tokyo Dome at the conclusion of the day's festivities (the final set will conclude with several winners so as to not force PvP even if we do end up with several teams.) A little more on the rules for the sake of narrative! Each team may have up to five members, and each match lasts for forty-five IC minutes. The first team to score five goals wins! If time runs out, the win goes to whichever team has the most goals! A person may carry, throw, kick, or move the ball however they wish but quirks must be utilized somehow in the scoring of a goal. The field is similar to that of a basic football / soccer field. Aside from a basic tackle, combat between teams is not allowed. That said, participants may interfere with the opposing team using their quirks (like using a smokescreen or building a wall around the opposition). OOCly, this will primarily PvE event where our player teams will work together against NPCs. If anyone does wish to try their hand at a PvP match, I'll help facilitate it if requested, but it's not what we're looking to push. He wasn't increasing his speed in the traditional sense, but accelerating one's passage through time achieved the same ends. She had, however, piqued his interest yet again.
"Oh, really? Is that yer' quirk? Can make things move faster or some sort?"
Quirkology was rainwater to curiosity's roots. It simultaneously satiated and expanded that curiosity. He was no genius in the matter, but boy was he interested in people's quirks and how they functioned.
"If so, by all means. I feel fine," fine because this was simply how he went about his life. He had long ago grown accustomed to the sluggish state Chronokinesis could leave him in, "but can't say I'm no' curious now."
Chronokinesis felt like an adrenaline shot to those who experienced its gifts for the first time. After spending so much time in his temporal state, the sensation has dulled. He still felt something like an electric charge firing through his veins, but he didn't freak out as the world slowed to an absolute crawl around him. Her quirk wasn't Chronokinesis though. Whatever it was, it was bound to feel different. If it was a more traditional speed enhancement, who knew how he might process everything around him? In this particular instance, he invited the unknown.
