"There will be time to check with Kazashi when the situation has stabilised." She replied over her shoulder while making her way into the interrogation room. "For now I would like to request your assistance in ensuring that happens."
If her earlier theory on Mummy's backer or backers was proven right she had the impression she might be too busy dealing with that to keep an eye on the young Matsui. Either way it was best to get as much done as quickly as possible regardless of whether anyone would end up showing up to break Mummy out of prison. She paused for a moment to consider her words.
"Well then, Super Awesome Queen Mummy, Future Prime Minister of Japan." The Gorgon answered with a straight face before slightly tilting her head. "That is a long title. If I spent that much time saying it every time I'll have less time to listen to you speak, would Mummy for short work?"
Her mind went over several other ways she could ensure the villain's cooperation should this approach fail to work. From the woman's demeanor however she seemed like the type that hadn't been told 'no' often so playing along was likely to get the best results.
"Certainly. I'm afraid I don't have one on me right now but the facility we are moving too has a medbay with several knives. Shall w-"
It was at that point that the lights went out and The Gorgon's priorities shifted.
While a snake's main sense is not that of sight but that of smell and taste Hebiru unfortunately didn't share that trait and would need to adapt. Stepping closer to Mood Ring so she could ensure the student's continued safety at a moment's notice she angled herself to stay out of the way of her attempts to light the room while she used her own methods to regain control of the situation.
Pushing her quirk to the limits she manifested over a hundred arrows no wider than a finger from her lower back. There was no way she could control so much as a fraction of them at once but there was no need. With a quick spin while she externalized them all she strung them all over the room, covering the ground and parts of the walls nearest to them. It was a gamble. Any damage done to them would naturally cause her harm and when spread this thinly their durability was nearly nonexistent.
What it would do however was give her an advance warning. The second any of them were destroyed she'd know where the attack would be coming from and strike with the one appendage she was keeping back behind her like a scorpion's tail, ready to lash out at a moment's notice.
"Mood Ring, please light the rest of the-" The flashlight went flying. "-room as well to restore our visibility. I entrust this matter to you."
The student's methods were creative but they were certainly effective and likely to catch their opponent off guard should they already be present. Hebiru kept her eyes peeled and followed the path of the spinning beam as closely as possible with her gaze. Their methods would have to suffice until Jun could create a longer lasting solution. All The Gorgon could do now was buy her time and shield her from harm should either Rui or the unknown assailant pose any danger to her.

When it came to solving problems The Gorgon was a scalpel. An instrument to precisely cut to the core of the issue, remove what was causing the malady and do as little damage as possible in the process. An approach that made her very unsuited to the current situation should she continue to take action the way she normally did.
It was clear that a change in methodology was required.
Certainly she'd already been focusing on the preservation of life but as she rushed through the street she realized her unconscious biases had left her predisposed to simply retooling her normal way of handling matters to this situation. She'd been handling rescues like the very scalpel she understood was unsuited, targeting a single problem at a time and resolving it before moving to the next. At present that was highly inefficient. She needed to be a net instead. A linked network employing connections to cover a wider area and 'catch' as many within its reach as possible.
Especially with a giant wave forming in the distance.
Withdrawing all of her quirk-granted external appendages she was weightless in the air for a brief second before she focused a large amount of mass into a single appendage spearing down straight from her lower back and into the ground, sending her rocketing upwards as a result. She had mere moments to take in the scene before gravity would once more reassert its effects and send her plummeting down so she focused only on the most immediately important events in her surroundings.
With the wave approaching both faster and being much higher than she'd accounted for the three story building she'd left the civilians on wouldn't last long, even if there were several smaller ones between it and the wave. It would have to do for now. There was a sturdier apartment building -a hotel- half a dozen meters from it. If the civilians could be evacuated into it they could climb the stairs with their own strength instead of requiring extra attention. The apartment should last, it looked new and Japan had faced more than enough disasters over the past century to tsunami-proof their more expensive buildings.
With a bit of luck her appendages might be able to form a makeshift bridge from one to the other. All that mattered now was getting as many people as possible there in time and for that she needed to make use of the greatest strength of this era's heroes. Cooperation.
She would have to risk herself to accomplish it. If this went wrong or she overestimated the others present she'd be swept along with the waves but if it didn't they would be in the perfect position to save as many people as possible.
From her back ten appendages extended as she fell, her arms wiggling rhythmically to and fro in an attempt to control them. First two extended horizontally from her, spearing through both the three-story building and the one next to it to anchor her in place. Next several more aimed down. Two of them moved down and forward in alternating patterns as they extended, forming a staircase-like surface all the way down to the truck Snow Fox had carried one of the civilians onto while three more aimed to repeat the move in the hero student's direction. If she'd calculated the wave's speed correctly their ends would reach just in front of him when the wave carried him there allowing him to climb to her and then to the building as well through the horizontal holdout, hopefully alongside the civilian he was assisting.
With a limited amount of limbs left to use she had to make hard choices. Aegis's son would be fine. He'd received more than enough training to handle himself in a situation such as this and should be able to figure out the plan from seeing her actions. Which left Surplus as the one she needed to focus on first.
There was no way her remaining limbs could handle the weight of his support item for a long duration so she had to use a similar yet different method. Extending the final three of her limbs in a similar yet much wider version of the previous 'steps' she speared the first through the hood of the car he was on while angling the remaining two so they could serve as temporary footholds to leap close enough to the building that his mechanical arms could grab hold of it.
Any other maneuver on her part would have to wait. Time was up and she could only hope everyone managed to cross the distance in time before the wave reached her. If they didn't she was a sitting duck.

TL;DR: Hebiru leaps up to get a better view of the scenario, fixes herself in place between two three-story buildings and creates several sets of stairs and footholds for everyone to reach the top.

It was rare that The Gorgon took to the field in costume and even rarer for it to be outside of an emergency situation. The moment she got wind of what was going on here however she hadn't hesitated. Not only was it necessary to maintain her appearance as a caring school nurse and ensure Junsuina's health but the captured villain in question interested her on a personal level.
Mummy was a villain whose appearances she'd been keeping track of for the sake of her own research. As she was the wielder of one of the more powerful healing quirks Hebiru had long had an interest in figuring out how exactly her abilities worked. It seemed clear on the surface but the devil was always in the details.
"That will not be necessary, miss Kano." The Gorgon said as she approached, her eyes briefly flicking up and down to check Jun for any immediate injuries. Given that adrenaline was highly likely to have already worn off already there was a lot she could read from the student's posture. It did not match the injuries she should've had based on the state of her attire. Hebiru could only conclude Mummy's quirk was involved and check the effects over later.
"Given recent events I understand your inclination to overestimate the relevance of family connections." Hebiru said none too subtly with a slight narrowing of her eyes that implied this wasn't over yet. "Rest assured however that while Mummy has some connections to the Kanekos she is highly unlikely to be one of them."
In truth she wasn't entirely sure of that. While she'd been able to find out that the Mummy didn't currently have a familial relationship to the Kanekos her sources had found very little on the girl's early life. Who knew whether she truly was or not?
"But we digress. Let us see to this matter shall we."
Walking to the interrogation room The Gorgon wondered whether she had the time to question the captive. She doubted it. While she did not know much about this supposed 'brother' of hers Hebiru had noticed a trend in Mummy's appearances. Problems she should not have been able to resolve by herself tended to stop being problems rather quickly. Whether there were multiple people responsible for that or just one she couldn't say but if she were to take Rui's words seriously she could infer it might be him.
Even so she knew better than to rely on one set of data to draw a conclusion, she'd keep her eyes peeled for any potential threat. Better safe than sorry. Especially when it came to someone that could help advance her research.
"Greetings, Mummy. I am The Gorgon. It is unfortunate that our first meeting is under circumstances such as these. Before I ask any further questions, what would you like me to address you as?"

Luckily everything matched the readings from the live feed on the monitor, something that was confirmed by one final check. She smiled ruefully at Sonya's words.
"I shall endeavour to meet and exceed expectations, Sonya."
She doubted the woman's previous experience was anything remotely pleasant. It said a lot about how much trust Sonya was willing to put in her, regardless of how closely they'd worked together recently or how certain they were of the procedure's success.
She couldn't -wouldn't- fail to live up to that.
Swallowing a Potassium Iodide tablet she did a final check of her sleek radsuit -something more akin to an undersuit than the hazmat suits of old- and put on her disposable surgical gown, hair net and mask. Next she put on her eye protection, a neat mix between a pair of sunglasses and a face shield that had two functions.
The first allowed it to automatically adjusted its coverage at a moment's notice to allow her to work optimally regardless of whether the level of brightness exuded by Sonya's quirk intensified or lessened. The second used something similar to facial recognition technology to allow her to zoom in and out by making specific eye movements.
With her eye protection snugly secured to her face she finished by slipping on a pair of surgical gloves while checking to make sure everything she'd need was within reach.
"I should be asking you that, Sonya." She tittered, the sound coming out slightly muffled beneath her filtered mask. "Rest easy. There's no need to burden yourself with worries. I have everything fully under control."
Adjusting the angle of several screens to aim them where she'd be standing at several points throughout the procedure her eyes flicked to Sonya.
"So allow me. Are you ready?" She asked while making sure to keep her tone light. Fully aware that given the amount of things Sonya worked on start to finish it was probable she had some difficulty letting go of responsibilities and likely had a need to feel like she was in control Hebiru followed her question up with another. "Shall we go over the procedure together one more time? Tell me, step by step, what have we planned out for today?"

It was rare indeed that The Gorgon took to the streets in costume but with the news of the Elementalist's crimes being broadcast far and wide Yanai Hebiru had called in a great many favors to collect as much information as possible in regards to his actions and come to a startling conclusion. This wasn't over yet.
Eventually her search for answers had brought her to Koto where she was to meet an associate that had worked with the Elementalist in the past, albeit not on the projects for which the man was convicted. She'd been following the trial on her phone while making her way to her appointment and hadn't missed his ominous announcement so when the bay started roiling she'd put one and one together, made a call to ensure her associate was safe and changed course.
It couldn't have been more than half a minute since the man's announcement and yet the entire bay was already in dire straits by the time Hebiru arrived. Using her extra limbs to carry herself atop a nearby building she looked over the scene from her vantage point with a frown. There did not seem to be a single source that could be removed to solve the entire malady. With a quick surgical incision being outside of the realm of possibilities The Gorgon decided to focus on the preservation of life until such a time as it became a viable option.
Her first target was a car parked right at the edge of the small strip of beach bordering the water. Its passengers had clearly tried to use it to flee the moment things went awry but the waves had carried enough sand with it to trap it in place. Even worse water was flooding around it with enough strength that opening the doors would be a fool's errand and trying to walk through the full force of the water afterwards would be an even worse idea.
Letting herself drop off the building she was on Hebiru extended an appendage behind her to push off horizontally above the water, one or two more serpentine limbs occasionally stabbing into the ground beneath the roiling tide to push her further before withdrawing. Within moments she landed atop the hood of the car, a few motions of her hands causing four appendages to lash out and neatly cut the entire front windshield out.
"Please remain calm. I will take you to a safe place momentarily."
More intricate hand motions guided the sharp arrowhead-like points of her limbs to slice through the seatbelts before the limbs wrapped around the mother and child, guiding them onto the hood just as the tide started sweeping the car along with it.
"Hold on tight." The Gorgon instructed while she motioned for one of them to hold on to her on the left and the other on the right before she manifested two more limbs from her lower back. Wrapping one around each of the two people she'd be carrying while making sure to keep the sharp ends away from them she stood up assisted by her quirk-granted limbs and made her way back to the same building she was on moments ago in exactly the same way she did moments ago.
She put them down on the flat roof three stories up and used her phone to signal their location to more qualified rescue crews. Her eyes narrowed once more as she took in the chaos below them. She didn't enough time to save everyone nor the capabilities to find those who needed her help most.
Even so she would do what she could until a better alternative presented herself and after a brief pat on the head to the child and an assurance to the mother that help was on the way she leapt back into the fray.

Crossing her arms she closed her eyes while humming, as much to think the matter through as to give her eyes some time to rest.
"Ah, I got it!" She shouted while jumping up, mostly to hide the pained flinch caused by light once more hitting her eyes. "I'll keep it a secret for now though. You'll have to find out which stores we're visiting on the day itself!"
Interrupting Shirei's banter with a subtle clearing of her throat Hebiru aimed a polite smile Freja's way.
"That's what we're here for, Helt-san." Hebiru said with a nod. "Indeed it does. Rest assured that your injuries looked worse than they were. I'll prescribe some painkillers for the first few days of recovery however the pain should fade soon by itself. Be sure to wet the sutures twice a day and gently pat them dry to speed recovery and you'll be right as rain before you know it."
Scribbling down two notes and grabbing a bottle out of a nearby cabinet she handed both to Freja.
"This first note will get you out of PE and the like for a week as well as allow you to skip out on intense exercises the week after should it be needed. This second one is for you personally." Hebiru added with a gentle smile and a wink. "Standard procedure is to get a statement as soon as possible after an encounter such as this. Doctor's orders override this however. With this note you'll be able to wait until tomorrow before putting in a report. Get some rest, Helt-san. "
"And if there's anything else don't hesitate to pay us a visit!" Shirei added with Hebiru nodding along in agreement.
The pair saw Freja off before Hebiru turned to Shirei.
"That goes for you as well. You can't hide symptoms from your doctor, Shirei."
"Ah, busted..."
"Take a painkiller and go lay down. I'm sure I can handle things here for the rest of the day."
"Yes, Yanai-sensei!"

The Doctor is In
Hebiru's utensils stopped for just a second before she continued eating. Was there truth to what Sonya was saying? It wasn't something she'd considered much in the past. Certainly, she'd read her fair share of romance novels. Puberty hadn't exactly been the same for her as for others and she'd never felt anything that could even remotely be described as love. Her forays into the genre had purely been out of intellectual curiosity. To understand and feign what everyone else was doing so naturally.
Yet even as she put those thoughts together in her mind she knew they were simply what she herself believed, not reality. She'd studied enough psychology to leave her unable to deny the simple truth. The heart desires that which it cannot have.
Was she then a closet romantic?
She couldn't say. Yet if felt far more likely that Sonya was correct rather than that her own preconceived notions. Either way she could consider such things later. It wouldn't be polite to forget to pay attention after asking a question.
"Quite the varied tastes." Hebiru nodded while curling her lips into an elusive smile. "Which I suppose shouldn't come as a surprise. I've heard it said that music is the sound of a soul and you do have quite a wide range of achievements and accomplishments."
Bringing her cup to her mouth she downed half the cup in her first gulp before remembering to pace herself and taking a second, smaller sip prior to putting the cup back down again. She wondered whether that line was perhaps a bit much? Or perhaps too subtle? Hebiru had no idea. She'd never had to reply to flirtations - at least not from anyone she couldn't simply blow off - so she wasn't entirely sure how open to interpretation one should leave their words in this context.
"I must admit I also tend to listen to music that's a bit more intense than a genre like R&B as well when I am trying to focus." She tittered softly. "Albeit I cannot quite say whether I enjoy listening to it or use it to drown out stray thoughts."
She took another sip of her coffee.
"After all, some efforts require one's undivided effort, do they not?" Hebiru asked rhetorically. "A jazz club sounds fine. I must admit, I've never been to one before. To think I'd come to experience it for the first time at my age. Life is full of surprises."
Perhaps even more than Hebiru expected. Who could say? Regardlessly unless the evening went drastically off the rails she had found another avenue of research to explore. A solution to her own problems was still far away but as always she'd diligently keep working away at them, one foot in front of the other until the long road was entirely behind her.
And truly, who could blame her if she took some breaks along the way? Rome wasn't built in a day after all.

"It would be rude of me to refuse." She replied with a kind smile. "A cola for me, please, I still have some paperwork that needs doing after this."
Taking the moment Futaba was gone to skim her agenda as well as her notes she offered a practiced thanks once she returned.
"I do believe our schedules match up, Tamashiro-sensei. I will collate my available timeslots and mail them to you once I've returned to my office."
Already her mind was running over possible angles to take in order to advance their respective areas of interest and how to combine them for the best result. Noticing that she was allowing herself to get distracted she filed the thought away for later and turned back to Futaba after taking another sip of her drink.
"But where are my manners. My apologies, I tend to get too focused on my work. We haven't gotten many chances to talk, how have you been?"
