Farrin had his answer. Ylva froze things in quite the literal sense with ice. He didn't see the third party his partner could feel out, but in the distance, a flash of violet light snatched his attention.
They were further out than himself, Ylva, and team ninja-spider, but Farrin could see at least two other teams trading blows. Another flash of that purple light, then something that looked like a wrecking ball crashed a catwalk, shattering the walkway. They wouldn't pose any threat for now, but it was worth noting. Hopefully, those two teams would keep each other occupied long enough for Farrin and Ylva to take a quick and decisive win.
Farrin sprinted ahead, up one of many ramps that would leave the students atop a large ring. The ring, in turn, overlooked a massive, circular platform on which the three flags stood. "How far can yuh' jump?" Farrin would shout over the boom of a distance explosion, the din of battle between the teams he saw earlier. The intended route to the platform consisted of one of two bridges, which were nearly equidistant from their position on the ring, but there was always a chance those bridges would set off traps of some sort. Ylva could probably create a bridge of ice for the two of them, but would she be able to run across it easily? Would he, when moving at the speeds they were? Moving slowly would leave them open to attack, which, looking back, appeared to be quite a possibility. The ninja-looking fella was nearly at the edge of the ice field she left behind, and the spider fella wasn't too far behind.
If Ylva could neither jump herself nor create a reliable bridge, Farrin could try to jump both of them across, but her cold demeanor would probably lean towards absofuckinglutely not. An arrow would whisk just by Farrin, dragging his attention back to the spider-guy. A turn of the wrist and a wall of temporal deceleration would form behind them, nearly stilling the next arrow entirely. It would only last about thirty seconds or so. "Time ta' move," he said, ready to jump if necessary.

He was going to make it. He was going to win. Build as many walls as you like. He would break them all down.
The winds whipped against Farrin's fall. The cost of skywalking would quickly outweigh the benefits. Prolonged use was reserved for flying opposition. Farrin never stopped firing, though. Chronokinesis latched onto the six-second fall and stretched the thread out to something that felt more like a minute to its master.
Two more red balloons broken. Five. Seven. Farrin's score raced up the board. When his armored boots clapped against the ground, he was out of the negatives. And yet, the total pool was shrinking, and he wasn't anywhere close to the top. This was a sprint, not a marathon.
A gilded stare sifted through the field for Rahul, the builder erecting all the obstacles Farrin had faced. "Ah shite," he cursed, eyeing the swarm. Hornets. He hadn't been one of the unfortunates frowned upon by fate and slathered in honey, but that didn't eliminate the threat. You couldn't really box a hornet. Well, he could, given that they flew so slowly in his eyes, but come on, there was feckin' swarm of them, and that would take time. Instead, Farrin took advantage of the chaos... threw some gas on that fire.
The time-turner took shots at the red balloons near the mess of stingers and honey. The nearby students would be preoccupied with vacating the area—a few free points for Farrin. Moreover, some of those red balloons contained extra surprises. Two burst into clouds of white smoke which expanded outward, obscuring everyone's vision- all the easier to hit a green balloon by mistake. A third spilled a glue, not unlike Farrin's adhesives, onto the ground. This might have been a boon, especially when added to the aforementioned adhesives Farrin fired earlier, but he wasn't safe from the smoke cloud and the additional challenge it introduced... or the dwindling number of balloons.

Farrin's framed in a scowl. He recognized the little slags from the Beta Blitz exercise a few weeks back. Their owner, however, was mostly an unknown variable. What was his feckin' issue? No matter the potential threat Farrin posed, this was excessive.
The Sports Festival represented an opportunity to display one's capabilities to the world. Farrin wasn't trading for fame, but recognition would open more doors for him. Maybe even an internship with Sterling Soul, one of the nation's most prominent hero figures. There was always Above & Beyond agency, the lads over there always had his back, but the more varied his experiences, the better. Farrin had been knocking it out of the park for most of his challenges, but now this eejit was actin' a maggot to keep him down.
"Right," Farrin sneered.
He jumped, then kicked off the air itself. Skywalking, Miroru had called it. Aptly named. Farrin first created a deceleration field around the air just below his boot. It only lasted a split second, but the slowing effect turned the air into something like a semi-solid. Then, using an acceleration field around the boot itself, his kick created a force with an equal but opposite reaction that gave him lift. In effect, he could walk through the air. And, once above the battlefield, it was time to play dirty himself.
Farrin aimed below with his linear cannons and let loose. Adhesive rounds that bypassed red balloons, earning him a few points, then slapped into the ground, releasing their gooey contents, which would catch some of the rabbits bouncing about below and keep them still. He wasn't taking a leading score, but the time-turner would not be staying in the negative for long.

It was ridiculously feckin' cold. And yet, no wintry waters would wrestle the time-turner into submission. She wasn't here. She wasn't drowning, which meant his Sada was safe out there somewhere still. And if that was true, there was nothing left that could deter Farrin's dive.
Well, almost nothing.
The water bubbled, and then a spurt of force blasted through the currents. The challenge's namesake geyser system was activated. Okay, this didn't deter Farrin, but it certainly slowed him down. He broke right and navigated around the first geyser stream, then beelined it below. A second blew out from his left and swept him back a few meters. They weren't strong enough to cause any meaningful damage, so no temporal warnings were flaring up, but they certainly slowed his progress.
'Blisterin' feckin' shite,' he cursed mentally.
Above, three students were closing the gap. No more time to waste. Another geyser blew out, but this time Farrin dove below the stream and put his back and arms into it. He swept down, crossed the threshold, and entered the cave system. Now, he had to play geologist and determine which would be the most valuable. Or just grab everything in sight.

The blast rang in his ears still, and he hadn't caught all of what happened, but Jun somehow canceled out the worst of the damage from the cannon fire. Still, he had been blown back a bit and was now firmly set on the ground. "I'm good. Catch." He fished a protein bar out of his pocket from a seated position, looked to Jun, then tossed it her way.
Dust bunched around Farirn's fingers as he pushed off of the ground. "Yup, I see 'em," he said, pointing toward the villain duo at the edge of the block. His eyes narrowed, and he found his focus. The machine-man wasn't the easiest read, but a balled fist leaned toward him itching for another fight. Ice-fella, on the other hand, appeared contemplative. He was staring right back, probing, thinking about how to handle the students best. Brains and brawn. An age-old and ever-dangerous combination.
Farrin threw his hand up and fired again. Three shots. Two for Ice-fella, one for the machine-man. If Brawn relied on Brains for a plan, he wouldn't give them time to make one. "Fella I fought summons ice pillars from da' ground n' can teleport. Saw the cannons, but what dij yer' guy do?" Farrin asked, firing another two shots the Ice-man's way.
They wouldn't have much time to coordinate, but if they understood the opposition, the two were less likely to be caught off guard. The reprieve wouldn't last, however. Merodach grabbed Machina by the shoulder, and the two teleported just a few meters above Farrin and Jun. Machina whipped another chain Jun and Farrin's way while Merodach fired four shots from his hand cannon, two toward each student.
"Right, Mood Ring, get ready fer' some speed," Farrin said, leaping aside.
He threw an open palm in her direction and, assuming she didn't fight the sensation, would enwrap her in a field of temporal acceleration. It was time to blitz their ambushers.

Farrin watched as Jun sunk with that hammer, reaching depths far deeper than the rest. He could cover that distance before long. The golden glow of time flared in his eyes. Emerald sparks blew out from his periphery, his personal field fitting to the young time-turner. And into the black, he swam.
Farrin was faster, stronger, and possessed more endurance than most, but that didn't shake fear's fingers from his throat. His arms reached and pushed, forcing him forward. A few heartbeats, and he was ahead most of the others. And there, beyond light's reach, he saw it. A vision all too familiar. He saw this place in sifting dreams, his nightmares. Not these exact waters, but the lightless embrace below all else. It was here he failed. Again and again, he failed to save her.
She was always out of reach. And he was out of time. A million voices roared in the back of his mind, imposed submission, but resistance was Farrin's language, his very spirit. But, like the light itself, it was eventually snuffed out.
He's back in the real. He swore he saw her, that he was back in that place, but she was gone. Instead, there was a glimmer. Light. What little bypassed the depths reflected off of the gems below. He wasn't sure if he was the first to approach the cave system, but the odds were certainly in his favor. Swoop down, snatch the rarest-looking ones, and make for the surface. He could leave this watery hell behind him and tackle what he realized was his newest demon. He wouldn't be able to dive to such depths without thinking on those dreams, those failures. Disappointment swelled within, followed by an unheard sigh. Was it literal? Like ice manipulation? If so, could she generate or only manipulate? Could she operate at range, or must she touch a target? Did she herself freeze? A thousand questions that went unanswered. There wasn't any time. He had to give her some heads up before the bell rang. Her proposed strategy wasn't foreign to him. Farrin sped Freja up all the time when they were caught in a pinch, but first-timers could have some odds reactions.
"Sounds good. Fair warnin' though, I'm told it feels like takin' an adrenaline shot, so be ready," he offered.
Whether that was an apt description or not, Farrin wasn't sure. When he first used his quirk, heck- even now, it felt like lightning in his veins, but was that like taking an adrenaline shot? He wasn't sure. The analogy seemed to cut it with most though. Hopefully, she wouldn't freak out when the world appeared to slow around her.
"N' keep close. Further yuh' are, more difficult it is ta' keep yuh' sped up."
The closer one was, the better he could form perfectly fit fields to them. Bonus points if they were in his line of sight. A malformed field could be lethal. Speed up or slow down one part of the body and not the other, and the blood would coagulate at the edge of the fields in a blink. Organ damage of all sorts was possible. Time was dangerous business. Powerful, but dangerous.
Speaking of time, the bell rang, and Farrin was off. He ascended a ramp and boomed past the grated flooring that spat flames into the air all too slowly. He was long gone. His personal field accelerated further, then slowed to keep pace with Ylva.
In the distance, two figures took form, leaping through one of the fire-spitting plates just in time to avoid any damage. None were closer to the center than Farrin and Ylva from the looks of it, but those had to be the closest second. One's had several arms and held a bow in his hand while the other looked like a ninja.
The spider-looking fella took aim with his bow while on the move and fired. One arrow. Two. Then, a third. All misses, but they were growing closer. Farrin raised his right arm and fired two stun rounds back. One whipped by the spider fella. The second caught the ninja head-on. He flipped, then landed right on his feet and kept going. Somehow, no damage was done.
"An electrical quirk of some sort, or the suit?" Farrin asked himself as the two continued their sprint. A hundred years later, it was still as popular as ever. And not just back home but out here, across the world, as well. How baseball had survived the advent of quirks, Farrin wasn't sure, but back in New York, he snuck his way into more than a few Yankee games. He wasn't a massive fan, but a younger time-turner couldn't help but be curious.
Back then, he would speed up the absurdly expensive, multilevel parking lot behind the stadium, leap from one roof to the other, and descend to the nosebleed seats. Some nights, he even explored the innards of the building, checking out the 000 level, where the players hung out. Fancy stuff. Thankfully, he wasn't spending any money to be there.
"Right then, thanks," he offered one of the event organizers who had just handed him a baseball bat.
There were myriad challenges awaiting him within the Sports Festival's main arena, but outside, there were more traditional sports being played. He wasn't due up inside the main arena for a few hours, so how could the New York native turn down a baseball game? Somewhere, deep down, he had to show some pride in his home's favorite sport. Well, technically, he was born in Ireland, but he was raised in the U.S. for most of his life. New York was home. So, yeah, baseball. Wait, could these bats take the kind of pitches a quirk could dish out?

Not ten seconds into the match, one of the competitors found themselves on an unfortunate drop tile and plummeted below. High-power safety fans or no, that had to be terrifying. Farrin could air step his way down... or back up if he fell to such a fate, but he didn't intend on falling. While misfortune had claimed one, it turned a blind eye to another. Namely, Farrin, who leaped up into the air and snatched up the first of his water balloons.
"Can others pop these things?" He asked himself before turning to face the others.
They couldn't attack each other directly, but attacking a balloon wasn't a direct attack. None appeared to have such a tactic in mind quite yet. Most were shuffling about the hexagonal arena, eyes either on the floor ahead of them, watching for any sign of a trick tile, or up above, watching for more water balloons.
Farrin's eyes, glowing with the touch of time, bounced between the floor below him and the water balloons ahead. His boot was planted firmly on a trick tile. It dropped, but the boy was already gone, ten steps ahead and closing on his second balloon. He could reach the opposite end of the arena, where there were fewer contestants to contend with before the others. That was the plan. Occupy the emptiest spaces, navigate between the others, and snatch up every point he could. That wasn't the fact tying knots in Farrin's gut, however. No, it had more to do with trusting these rebreathers to fulfill their purpose. Farrin could hold his breath for a fair amount of time, but not indefinitely, and this was an underwater challenge.
"Yuh' better no' go short circuitin on me," he said, eyeing the device in his hands.
It couldn't short-circuit, of course, but facts rarely loosened anxiety's grip alone. Surely, the device could fail somehow. He didn't have his beloved here to blast him with some healing warmth if things turned sideways. That said, UA's staff and other pros were on hand and ready to resuscitate anyone severely injured and such. That brought some comfort.
"Alright, firm that gut now, Farrin. Too many people watchin."
Anxious wasn't a good look on him, even if there were only a few familiar faces about. Jun was among those participating in this round of the challenge, but this wasn't a team operation. Honestly, there was always a chance she just blew the cave systems open and retrieved all the stones she required. Still, it would be a large area to cover. That's where Farrin's advantage lay. He could cross the distance in a fraction of the time it would take the others. Here's hoping that would be enough.
A few more seconds. That was all that remained before the bell rang and the contestants were to dive. Ugh, diving into dark depths- he didn't have the best track record in such matters, even if this experience was far more physical than what he was accustomed to. A friendly face would have been nice, but it was a luxury he didn't much have anymore. So, just him, the opposition, and the deep, dark depths it was.

That was the issue with shadowboxing. There wasn't a move they could make that wasn't anticipated. It wouldn't be like that out in the field. And not in this spectacle of a game. This was a full-contact exercise. Everything goes. Good, Farrin shined brightest where heavy-weighing rules weren't chained to his ankles.
A cold breeze. A shivering running down his spine. Farrin turned to his partner's arrival: an introduction and little more in the way of pleasantries. "Farrin. I can speed things up n' slow 'em down. You?" He asked of her quirk.
A few more seconds until the start bell rang, and they would have to move—plenty of time for a few more stretches. Farrin crossed one across his chest and used the other to tug on it, stretching his shoulder. "No problem at all. Winnin' is what I do." He said flatly.
Farrin considered himself a pretty nice guy, but kindness did little to dampen his competitive spirit and pride. He didn't play to win. He lived to win. Winning signified expertise, and he wouldn't be able to save anyone out there if he was anything less than an expert. Villains didn't play fair, they didn't adhere to rules, and they didn't concern themselves with casualties. So, the greatest heroes needed to be so far ahead, so much more capable than their enemies, that their raw prowess would overwhelm all odds. He needed to be the best, to balance scales long weighed against him. No, not balance them, to flip them entirely. Only when he stood atop the mountain could he force villainy into complete and utter submission. That's why he was here; it was all he had left now.

Like a puppy that took a tumble and just kept on running. Farrin was still fitting the situation together, plugging in possible puzzle pieces to make sense of the whole thing, then Sparkle outed herself as a probable vigilante. She didn't even try to hide it. What to do about that?
"Eh, well, if yer' gonna be venturin' about like that, I'd suggest some proper runners. Sandals are not at all ideal fer' this sorta thing. Speakin o' which, eh, may wanna invest in some proper face wear. Protection n' all that."
Technically, he hadn't acknowledged her as a vigilante and definitely wasn't suggesting she cover her face to keep her identity a secret. Not at all. This was strictly universal advice that could be applied to just about any neighborhood watch-type organization. What Farrin definitely wouldn't do was draw attention to the fact that he didn't have any meaningful face protection, and instead, he just hoped Sparkle was picking up what he was putting down.
"Guilty as charged. I'm a hero course student from UA. Doin' me' rounds."
Certainly guilty in some sense. Again, he wasn't supposed to look for trouble but always seemed to find it. "Are, uh, you new ta' this sorta thing? Fighin' the bads n' all that?" Maybe he should point her Peacekeeper's way? If this was a path she was determined to walk, she could probably use a guide. Until she proved a detriment to those around her, Farrin wouldn't take any action against her. Ideally, crime fighting would be left to heroes and the authorities, but the world was far from ideal still. If her motivations were genuinely good, there was no sense denying the flower some water.

Some might have thought the obstacles and traps a bit excessive, but the students of UAU typically fought machines the size of small buildings in their first year. Honestly, this was nothing. Still, Farrin didn't intend on being caught on atop any of the grated flooring that spurt the flames skyward for long.
A few medics with various healing quirks stood on standby around the arena in case of any grievous injuries. Farrin didn't intend on suffering any. That said, he wasn't familiar with his partner, and unknown variables could spell all sorts of trouble in the grand equation. Some people teamed up beforehand for the festival's many challenges, others could throw their names in and were assigned teammates. Farrin had opted for the latter. Most of his "go-to" teammates weren't available at the moment. Cup half full: it was more appropriate training. You didn't know who you might be working with out in the field when shite hit the fan.
There were a few minutes before things kicked off, minutes Farrin spent stretching his arms and legs while he waited for Ylva. A moment later, his fists flew through the air, boxing out an opponent only he could see. Stillness was not a card in the time-turner's deck. Not when the world moved so slowly around him. His hero outfit reduced what would have been debilitating, at the very best, wound into more of a sharp pain that traveled up his left arm. Kei and Ana had made magic happen for him, now it was time for the counter attack.
The time-turner leaped back a step, then returned fire with the linear cannons built into the wrists of his gloves. Stun rounds. They hurt like hell, but unless Farrin really turned up the acceleration of his fields, they weren't lethal. That was if they hit, of course.
Several ice pillars rose, interlinked like a massive fence. One collapsed, then another. As Farrin fired, the glacier wall blew into chips, but his assailant had successfully obscured himself. Then something blasted into Farrin's back. Several something, shoving him forward, off balance. Another ice pillar appeared this time from under him, knocking the young lad off his feet and onto his ass.
There he was. His attacker had somehow gotten behind him. "The feckin' hell?" Farrin grumbled. "You were just hidin' behind that wall o' yers over there, how'd yuh' get behind me?" He didn't expect an answer, but you never knew when it came to villains. So many loved to monologue and give their plans and abilities away. Maybe they had a talker.
Up above, Machina dropped below. He swung wildly, trying to swat Jun with the chain and anchor in his possession. He had strength enough to put the constructs to use, but certainly lacked Jun's refined technique- how best to take advantage of the weight for an optimal swing and such. When he crashed into the ground, the earth rumbled. Concrete chips and dust spurt into the air and then rained over the field. But the fight was far from over. Another familiar sight, one Jun hadn't even utilized yet. Cannons. Two rather large cannons formed around him, one on each side. They weren't the largest of naval weapons, but large enough to know this street was about to be rearranged... and they were aimed at Jun.
"See ya," he smirked below his mask.
Merodach appeared beside his companion, set a hand on his shoulder, and then both disappeared. He hadn't answered Farrin, but it would be clear now the man had a dual quirk. Ice... and teleportation. The two appeared again at the end of the block, just within the confines of this otherworld, and then the cannons fired.

Ms. Gotoh was professional; she knew how to take a hit, but it still felt wrong to hit the good guys like that, even when they were playing bad guy.

Farrin felt time's warning far too late. Ms. Mai was still on approach, or so he thought. He turned, bringing both arms up in a raised guard. One of the cannons might be lost eating the stab but it was better than a hand. And yet, the Blazing Djinn was already grounded. Her sword, however, hammered his already throbbing arms. His hero outfit was as strong as they came, but a few hits from Ms. Gotoh's chain latching onto him and now Ms. Mai's sword. Thankfully, the weapon was blunted. Maybe it was a mistake on her part, but either way, Farrin was feeling it. He might not punch at quite his regular speed.
"Oi, yuh' said stab!"
Farrin took aim, then fired an adhesive Ms. Mai's way. Hopefully, he would have taken two villains off the field and freed up some room for the remaining students. There was no time to celebrate, though. It was raining something dark... and furry. Rabbits. Dozens, hundreds. Who knew? They spilled over the rooftop, drawing Farrin's attention back to the battle above. Then he was blasted into the ground level of a building across the street from the one the rooftop was taking place on. His back smashed through a glass storefront, and his head smacked into the wall. No temporal trickery this time. Ms. Pavlina landed a solid blow.
"Son uva," he croaked, picking himself up and dusting himself off.
No time to waste. Farrin darted outside and looked above. One figure, clad in a dinosaur onesie, vacated the roof. Meanwhile, feckin' Stronghold was making a move on Jun. The one running away would likely be an easier target than the likes of Stronghold, given they were fleeing, and removing them would reduce enemy numbers all the sooner, but he couldn't leave Jun against Stronghold.
So, Farrin took four shots at dino-onesie with stun rounds, then leaped into the air. Rather than try air stepping, he used the dark rabbits as stairs. His attention shifted to Stronghold, who was taking her shot at Jun and then fired.
"Understood," the words were a whisper delivered over comms, quite the opposite of his usually boisterous self. "Well done, Hiroshi, and you too Fukisaki." The two students were unconscious. They fought valiantly, but given the state of Japan and the repeated attacks on Tokyo, coordinated attacks, he couldn't take it too easy on the youngsters anymore. Anyone short of the best would be bled a year into their career, so they needed to create the best. Diamonds. Pressure.
SuperNova leaped into the air. It was a feat of strength that saw the giant of a man barrel up into the skies. Once there, he whispered once more over comms, "I suggest you all take cover."
"YOU WILL FIND NO BRIGHTER LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE HEROISM'S DARK HEART THAN MY OWN!"
Back to his righteous villain persona. SuperNova's bellowed words echoed through the mock city. Heat and energy built around his entire form then exploded outward in a rain of light. Some shots were more directed than others, like the one that blasted Oberon out of the air and back into the street. Fast as he was, even Farrin couldn't outrun light. Other beams flew out at random, bombarding the dark, furry wave and the city, too. 
TLDR: Farrin is hit on the arms by Mai's sword, then blasted into a building by Iphi's gauntlet gun. He then runs out of the building, fires a few shots at Iphi, but leaps toward the fight between Stronghold and Jun, firing a few rounds at Stronghold, too. Before he can close distance he's blasted by SuperNova who has taken to the air and is carpet bombing Beta.
